Barrier Bay Resort is our all time favourite vacation destination in Manitoba. Our hosts Erica and DJ spare nothing to insure that our stays are completely relaxing and subtly enjoyable. Their welcoming personalities… as well as the natural design and extra nice touch's in our picturesque cottage (Swallows Nest) make us feel completely at home the moment we arrive. They take great pride in maintaining their naturally beautiful grounds, comfortable heated pool and riverside docks. Beside enjoying the awesome views and spectacular sunsets… we had special visits from their “resident” red fox and a stunning young white tail buck.

Stayed here for 5 days and it was very nice, quiet and relaxing. Booked to go again next year. Stayed in cabin 3, which is just in front of the boat dock, had a nice view of the lake. Very clean with all necessary amenities, wifi and tv in the cabin was a bonus. Heated pool on site. Ok fishing off the dock. Love the screened in porch and the two person hammock. The owners and their kids are very nice and friendly. The weather wasn’t the greatest but that can’t be controlled. We caught up on reading and movies. Can’t wait to go back next year.

Whiskey Jack is where we stayed for a week and it was not bad. There were many issues and some were addressed immediately, others we let slide. Erica and DJ the the best hosts anywhere. Very friendly. But the chalet needs some maintenance. The view of barrier bay was great. Oh and it is soooo quiet there, that anyone should be able to have a great rest and recharge. The internet strength was ok. There were 9 cabins and we saw the inside of one other cabin, which seemed nicer and want to check it out next year. We found the area a bit slow, but I guess that is what relaxing is all about.

Just returned from our second stay at Barrier Bay Resort and loved it.
Accommodations are a little dated but clean and everything works as it should. The store has a good stock of needful supplies.
Best thing about the place are the hosts, Erica and DJ. They are always friendly and helpful.
Also, what we really like is how guests are treated respectfully. For example, when we borrow a canoe or watercraft there is no specific return time - they just ask you bring things back in a reasonable amount of time.
I also like that there is free firewood and axes for splitting since we enjoy a campfire every evening.
We look forward to going back.

Me and my wife stayed here in Sept 2011 for 5 nights. We opted for the "WhiskyJack", which is the only cabin of the nine considered a Chalet. A little more expensive but still really well priced as we were visiting in the off season. I can't say enough of how much we enjoyed our time there. When we arrived, the windows were open and there was a nice breeze accompanied by soft music playing on the stereo.,,,a very nice first impression! The place was absolutely spotless as well. There is a wood burning stove which we used every night. They had everything prepped so for our first fire, all we had to do was light it up. Chopped wood was provided for free which completely floored me because wood is so expensive to buy. A very appreciated touch, both of those. The WhiskyJack isn't right on the lake but still very close. You have a view of it from the main and second story balconies. In the space between the cabin and the lake, we were treated to a variety of wildlife. We watched a doe and it's fawn graze on the grass, a reoccurring casual fox and an array of birds and squirrels. The cabin is extremely well equipped. It basically included everything you need to cook with, All your pots, pans, dishes and utensils. Not to mention and coffee maker, popcorn machine, kettle etc. We really hardly had to bring anything. The king size bed was exceptionally comfortable. Big jacuzzi tub in the bathroom which my wife loved. Everything is really well taken care of and very clean. Our hosts were very nice people and really seemed to want to make our stay excellent. Free mountain bike and canoe rentals was also quite the bonus.

Whiteshell itself is amazing and offers endless hikes and different things to do and explore. It's one of my favorite places ever.

All of the above made our one year wedding anniversary something to remember. A few days later we received a letter signed by the owners, our hosts, in the mail simply thanking us for leaving the place so clean. I mean, seriously, who offers that kind of personalization and courteousness anymore? By far the best stay I've had anywhere.......ever.

My husband and I celebrated our honeymoon here. We stayed in Swallow's Nest. Erica and DJ were so warm and welcoming. They showed us around the cabin and really made us feel at home. The cabin was very clean and well organized. The kitchen had everything that we needed and more. We loved the 2 person shower. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Enjoyed our evenings in the jacuzzi. The bubble bath and candles were a very romantic touch. We had a beautiful view of the lake from our screened in deck. Loved the 2 person hammock. The pool was a refreshing relief from the hot weather we had all week. Enjoyed fishing off the docks. We used both the kayak and the canoe. They supplied us with the paddles, lifejackets, and a safety kit. The store had the basics, and also offered a wide variety of movies to rent. They also had a bonfire pit. We didn't get a chance to use the gas fireplace because it was so hot all week, would be very nice to sit beside in cooler weather. Very beautiful drive, lots of scenery. The cabin also had a book of things to do in the Whiteshell. It was nice to go out and explore when we weren't busy at the cabin. It was a very romantic and relaxing holiday. I highly recommend the resort to anyone who wants to get back to nature and a great way to spend some alone time with their special someone.

My husband and I stayed here in August 2011 for two nights. Our cabin was high on the hill, in the treetops, but we could still see the lake from our screen porch. Since mosquitoes love me, the screen porch was fabulous for me! The screen porch has a table and two chairs where we ate all our meals, plus a hammock for two.

The cabin itself was open concept and well thought out. Nice extras included earl grey tea bags, steak knives, an air popcorn maker, a kettle (many places provide only a coffee maker), tea lights and holders, candle snuffer, soft jazz CDs to set the mood - one of which was playing when we arrived. Of course, we enjoyed the jacuzzi, more than big enough for two. Bed was comfortable - and I tend to have trouble sleeping when I'm away from home. Gas fireplace was nice. Cabin has a window air conditioner, but with breeze from the lake, we didn't need it. Other extras were the canoes and the pool, but we didn't end up using them.

The couple who run the resort are very friendly and helpful.

Overall, highly recommend and will definitely be back. There is at least one other couples resort in the Whiteshell, but it is not located on a lake. Barrier Bay is more expensive than that resort, but you're paying in part for the view of the lake.

We rented the large cabin for the weekend with our adult children and their spouses (6 people). It’s an adult only resort which was fantastic as it is so quiet. Great pool, water sport rentals like paddle boards and kayaks Friendly owners. Fully stocked store and location is close to waters edge. Can visit the park with hiking and swimming too.
