Just arrived so far it is great. Glad we ignored all the negative reviews. The cabin is really clean and well equipped. Yes you need to bring your own linens and soaps. I prefer to. Perfect location directly on the lake with your own dock. Looking forward to a great weekend. Beautiful sand beach and good launch. Lake life at its best.

This resort is a dive. Save yourself the money, and fight and seek elsewhere to stay. The owners and current lessee don’t care about their property or your stay. They got our family’s $5000 for 5 cabins for 4 nights without a care in the world that the resort is filthy and unkept and we would like to save future guests from the same experience.

The cabins are not as advertised, and absolutely filthy. Terrible when you have to clean the cabin when you arrive. Our family rented 5 cabins this weekend (2,4,5,6&7) and they were all the same, overgrown outside and filthy inside. **The long grass and weeds were cut the following day. Cabin 3 wasn’t available as we were supposed to be in a row, which is probably for the best as it looks like it might have squatters from the current condition.

We rented cabin 2 which is priced to sleep 6, however the pullout sofa in the cabin was filled with toys, gravel and dirt, cigarette burns on the sides of the mattress and had very little padding and was basically sleeping in the springs itself. Because of the condition of this mattress, 2 of our children didn’t have beds so ended up sleeping 2 in a twin and one laying on the sofa. There was no BBQ upon arrival, no firewood and no keys to our cabin. They were provided eventually after a 2nd request. Our dock wasn’t accessible as it was a 2-3 foot drop to get to it. The cabin was stocked with 3 bath towels, 1 dish towel and 1 dish cloth and 1 garbage bag for 4 nights and only 2 soup bowls for 6 people. We got a 2nd garbage bag after asking for more bags but were told there was a shortage so that’s all we could get.

The toilet leaks, the tub drain is plugged so fills up as you shower, there were dead bugs on the walls, thick layer of dust on the fans and wood, hair on the tub surrounds, eggs left in the fridge from who knows how long, and the window in the main bedroom can only be closed by pushing it shut from the outside. The list of maintenance issues are long and this is just cabin 2. Cabin 5 also only slept 4 instead of the advertised and PRICED accommodations for 6 (No pullout couch as advertised), so 2 in that cabin also had to sleep on the couches. Other issues to note amongst the cabins are: missing smoke detectors and live wires exposed, dog hair in the pull out of cabin 7, no toilet paper, no bbqs, propane, wood, & keys in several of the cabins and the same filthy and overgrown conditions for all them all. It is really a shame, as the location and lake itself, are wonderful.

Luckily, we had great company and great weather to highlight our family vacation. Because Wellman Lake Lodge in its current condition, isn’t even 1 star. 👎🏻👎🏻

cabin was nice had enough space for 3 couples. BUT...the floor hadnt seen a mop for a very long time nor had the rest of the cabin seen a cleaner for some time.

No key for the door

No BBQ

No tv

No Wifi

Kitchen window crank was busted

The table was stuck to the floor from grease or pop or both.

Diaper behind the couch when WE cleaned on the saturday morning.

We didnt see anyone from the resort all weekend until it was time to leave Sunday AM and all of a sudden someone came by to collect on the last half of the fee like Johnny on the Spot. We totally understood that its the off-season and the restaurant and store were closed but leaving a cabin in that condition for people to rent is attrocious.

This review is about the Wellman Lake Cabins, not the lodge. The management of the cabins is atrocious - do not book. The place is beyond dirty, dishes are filthy and no one around to help us get in - our cabin had no key so valuables had to be locked in vehicle. No soap in bathroom, either by sink or tub. There were two half rolls of toilet paper, one of which had unmentionables on it. We were told the lodge would be open, it was not, so no place within 100 km to get food. Even tho the lodge was closed the owner offered to cook us a meal, as one of was diabetic. She certainly was going beyond the call of duty, as the lodge is not affliated with the cabins. The owner of these cabins lives in Winnipeg and she is trying to manage/clean these cabins long distance. We checked out after one night as filth beyond description. If you decide to stay here bring your Javex and lots of disinfectant. On the plus side there was heat, which was working, as well as cold and hot water, but no TV or Wifi.

We spent 3 nights in cabin #1 and had an amazing weekend. The cabin was clean and well stocked. The owner/manager informed us ahead of time which items we had to bring (bedding, soap, towels etc) Firewood was provided as well as a BBQ. The lake is literally steps away from the cabin and having a private dock right outside the cabin was WONDERFUL!! The beach is close to the cabins as well. Enjoyed ice cream at the store/restaurant and the owner there was also very helpful. We had some rainy weather but still enjoyed ourselves on the large covered deck overlooking the lake. The fish were biting and fun was had by all. We would definitely recommend the cabins and will be booking there again next year.

We stayed at the nearby provincial campground and came to the lodge for a great burger (huge and delicious) and to shop at the store. Two brothers now help run it since January and are making changes, like a patio and a new menu. They are both friendly and very happy to help with advice, a delicious meal, ice cream, gas or wifi! We didn't stay at their resort, but they have a few cabins on the lake and some RV spots separate from the provincial campground.

Do not stay here! Cabins are way over priced and are very dirty! Our cabin had piles of dust collected on ceiling fan that we had to clean off. We originally had a larger cabin booked but owners told us after paying deposit that we had to switch to smaller cabin 10 days before our stay ( booked cabins in March). Grass wasn’t cut when we got there! Didn’t have a bbq like it said it came with, maintenance man eventually brought a dilapidated bbq over that was falling apart and hadn’t been cleaned, tried cleaning it with brush and grill was falling apart. Since we got switched to a smaller cabin we had to use a pull out that was full of dog hair and dirt, it was absolutely disgusting. Couldn’t get rid of dog hair as there isn’t any vacuum to clean it yourself and maintenance people didn’t clean it either. It was infested with bugs as well. Killed hundreds of bugs inside cabin during our stay. Half the bulbs in the fixtures are burnt out. Fridge was dirty with leftover food inside. Window screens are falling apart and taped up. Cabin is a huge fire hazard with smoke detector missing. Could go on but not worth the time as owners claim no one has complained before but after reading comments that clearly isn’t the truth..

Please spend your money elsewhere. Since this manager took over in 2020 it has done a slow decline into total disrepair. Nothing is fixed. Broken and unusable dock. Deck is in disrepair. Electric safety hazards. No supplies, dust and dirt everywhere. No kitchen supplies to speak of and the manager will try to blame you for the disgusting mess. There is nothing supplied as advertised…no firewood, no bbq, etc. And if someone wanting a longer stay than you’ve booked he will cancel your reservation and hang onto your deposit as long as he can.
Don’t spoil your vacation and waste your hard earned money on this dive.

Duck Mountain is a serene location that is ideal for escaping the bustle of the city. The Wellman Lake Cabins house we stayed at is charming and a little old, but it offers everything you need for a good stay. It's simple to unwind and take in the surroundings because of the area's tranquility.

Although the lake isn't very clear, swimming is still enjoyable and provides a pleasant way to cool off. Being away from the bustle of the city and awakened to the sounds of nature was one of the highlights of our vacation. We had a great experience at Duck Mountain because of the serene setting, and we would definitely go back for another relaxing vacation there.

We really enjoyed our three nights in cabin 4! The large kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed, the beds were comfy and the cabin was clean and roomy for our big family. We had enough wood for a campfire each night and had a beautiful view over the lake.

Is there a nice beach at Wellman Lake? Or at least a good swimming spot? Or is it a mucky/weedy bottom?
