This is a great place to stay when visiting L'Anse aux Meadows. It is modern and very clean. When we booked, Thelma advised that she would be serving dinner the night we arrived. When the ferry schedule screwed us up, we advised that we would probably be late arriving for dinner. Thelma graciously advised that she would keep dinners for us. The dinner turned out to be a very delicious moose pot roast.

Breakfasts are made to order and are served with home made jams. The beds are new and comfortable and the rooms are nicely decorated. And how nice it was to have internet service in this very remote community where there is no cell phone service.

We are so glad we made the effort to visit.

The weather was bad, and I did not have any reservation, but the hosts/owners Mrs. Thelma and Mr. Alonzo Hedderson welcomes me with open arms anyway. They make me feel like home right away. They let me use their kitchen (I bring my own food) without any concern. (The real boss in the house LOL) Thelma informed me that right away I can access their WiFi without password and asked me what I want for my hot breakfast next morning, and god blesses her that she did it just the way I want it.
The bedroom and bathroom was so clean and have everything I need. The bed is so comfortable, within 5 minutes; I was sleeping like a baby (without waking up every 2 hours LOL). In the morning, the weather was nice and clear. I open the curtains and realized that I have a beautiful ocean view right In front of me.
In the morning, like most girls with long hair, I took long time in the bathroom and getting ready to check out. Most hosts would have kicked me out, but god blesses Thelma again, she just keeps cooking in the kitchen and didn’t seem to care what I was doing. Thelma also told me that there is a very nice coffee shop which just 1 house away from hers and walking trails nearby. What I like the most is all the little personal touch from the hosts. Something that you just can’t get from the big hotels.

We stayed in the Viking Village Bed and Breakfast. The owners also own the Viking Nest. The Viking Nest is a regular house. We had to go up the house's driveway to get to the Viking Village. To us the Viking Village was more like a lodge than a B and B. There were eight rooms along a corridor. The bedrooms were very small as were the bathrooms. I kept tripping on the bedspread because the room was so small. There was no place to put anything. The room was finished in knotty pine and reminded be of a room in a summer camp back in the 50's and 60's.

There was a nice, good sized sitting room that most people sat in and chatted at night. We enjoyed talking to the other travelers. We went out to the sitting room at night because we didn't want to spend any more time than was necessary in our room where there was no place to comfortably sit.

The dining room was not a formal dining room. It was again like something you might find in a lodge. The breakfast was nothing special. There was a choice of bacon or ham, with eggs and toast. It was the same thing every day.

The place was clean. The bed was acceptable-- not the most comfortable we have had in our travels but ok. If you like luxury or want a charming B and B room, this may not be then place for you.

All in all for $75.00 a night plus tax, it's ok especially if you want to stay in L'Anse aux Meadows.

This B&B is very close to the L'Anse aux Meadows Viking settlement, as well as the Norseman restaurant (recommended). And it's only a short drive to St Anthony (boat trip for whales and icebergs also recommended). The rooms are a bit small and, as some people have mentioned, the walls are not noise-proof, but we had a very comfortable queen-sized bed. Be sure to ask for a room facing the ocean. Good breakfast cooked to order, with several local jams on offer. A short walk to the cove provides great views of eider ducks and whimbrels, if not icebergs. Note that the water in the B&B has a strong sulphur smell and taste, but is apparently safe to drink.

We only had one evening here, but were comfortable and very close to the main attraction: the original Viking settlement. Ragnar's room was a bit tight, but suitable for the two of us. The location so close to the sea allowed easy walks to the shore for beautiful views. Breakfast by Dot and Marge was very good.

The hospitality made this place great. The owner and her staff were friendly and helpful, plus sharing breakfast and the common areas with the other guests made for a wonderful stay. We stayed in both the Viking Nest & the Viking Village, as they are owned by the same person. The Nest (I think) is a group of rooms in the owner's house. We had a large queen room, with a shared bathroom. Free wifi, coffee, cookies, and you can use the kitchen to prepare your own meals if you ask nicely. It was great value, super cheap compared to a hotel and you get so much more.
We also spent a night in the Viking Village which is a separate building. We had a queen room with private bathroom, which was still great value but a little pokey. Both rooms had magic views over the water.
Plenty of amenities including TV, washer, dryer etc etc.
Can't recommend these 2 properties enough!

I looked over the other reviews and can only conclude that the dismal commentary are the result of NOT being in a room that overlooks the water. It is true, half the rooms face the road/parking lot, the other half have a fantastic view of the bay. I had reserved our room some 4 months in advance, and we had a superb overlook. It is exceptionally clean inside and looks like new construction of knotty pine throughout. This is the first stateside lodging I've seen that required shoes to be left at the entryway--the other was at Sleep Cheap, St. Petersburg, Russia--and both are immaculately clean! We kind of rushed through the well-prepared evening meal in order to attend the stupendous "Sagas & Shadows" presentation (riveting, dynamic lead actor is MIKE SEXTON) at L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site. The specific reason I chose this B&B was due to its excellent proximity to the site, less than a mile/about a kilometer. There is a wraparound porch, but it was a bit drizzly out so we didn't bother opening the sliding glass door. Another great aspect is that it is non-smoking, very nice indeed.

We enjoyed our stay! The room was very clean and Thelma and her husband were very sweet people! We were very impressed!!! Once the sky cleared the views were AMAZING! The Snorri bed was very comfy too which is always a plus! The only thing I would suggest is that they advertise their dinners (maybe a little menu or somethin)... We had no idea they served dinners and feel bad we went to another restaurant for dinner when we could have tried theirs! :)

We read here on Trip Advisor that the Viking Nest was a good place to stay, and we want to add another very positive review.

We just left there after two wonderful days. Thelma (the owner) really knows how to make you feel at home, and she is happy to share her extensive knowledge about L'Anse aux Meadows and the surrounding area, which is a truly fascinating place.

Our spacious room and bathroom were spotless. Our breakfasts were made to order and we could choose what time to eat. Five kinds of homemade jam are offered with your toast or muffins. Thelma also makes dinners upon request, something we did not realize in time to take advantage of that fact. Next time.

Thelma also operates the Viking Village, located next door to the Nest, which has even more amenities. Both places have wireless internet connections.

We have stayed in a lot of B & Bs over the years, and would rank this as a top-notch B & B experience. It was comfortable, sparkling clean, adjacent to a world-class historical site and run by a knowledgeable, hands-on owner who is as nice as can be.

Stayed one night in July 08. The location is great - down a quiet road, away from the highway. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the house has nice front and back decks to sit and enjoy the views and fresh air. The location (and ownership) is the same as the "Viking Village". Thelma (the owner) bakes all her own bread so it is nice to wake up to that smell and then enjoy her delicious cooked-to-order breakfast. An optional dinner is served at the Viking Village and was great value at $15 for salmon, fishcakes and a dessert!
