We stayed for two nights while touring Newfoundland. This place is an absolute gem. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the food is fantastic, and the view from the lodge is wonderful. If you have the opportunity to visit the area, Staying at Tuckamore would be an excellent (and relaxing!) choice.
This has long been a favourite place and it did not disappoint. Just minutes off the main road and you feel at one with nature. The staff are friendly and efficient. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. We sat by the pond and listened to the loons as the sun set, then a caribou swam across in front of us. We crawled into bed and felt like we were sleeping on a cloud. We woke to the smell of bacon. Thank you to Barb Genge and staff for keeping up your standards during this difficult time.
Beautiful grounds, homey, cottage feel inside, friendly staff, great food, beautiful beach, wildlife. This place has everything!!! Cosy beds, lovely decor. It's out of the way, which also worked for us. Not much around. We loved our short stay and highly recommend it!
We loved our short stay at Tuckamore, only wish we had been able to stay longer. Barb and her staff were friendly and we loved the look and feel if the place. Peaceful and serene a place I'd love to retreat to.
What a beautiful Lodge! Guides were very knowledgeable and scenery was beautiful. The owner of the Lodge, Barb Genge makes everything perfect. Meals and rooms were wonderful. 90% success rate for the moose hunt that week.
We stayed for two nights, and visited L'Anse Aux Meadows on our full day - which is fantastic. The weather was hot and sunny more or less all the time, which is unusual for Newfoundland, I understand! So we were just tourists. But we really enjoyed our memorable stay at the Lodge. It is more part of the real Newfoundland than the other places we stayed, being at heart a hunting and fishing lodge. We greatly enjoyed the meals with other guests around the table - some of them great characters who stay there often - and learned more how to fish for salmon and hunt moose (and the occasional polar bear) on the island. The food was homely and the staff friendly. Like being part of the family. Our room was a bit small, but why sit in there when there is a beautiful lounge? It is a long drive up the peninsula, but worth it.…
The Tuckamore Lodge is a mixed bag. Of the positives, we really enjoyed meeting the other guests. There were quite a number of them that had been coming to the Lodge for years and they had lots of recommendations for things to do. The view of the lake from the dining room is gorgeous and serene. The staff are all kind and attentive. My husband has celiac disease and the kitchen not only did an amazing job accommodating his food needs but took great pride in reworking recipes so that he could enjoy his meal. We really appreciated this effort immensely. The hostess Barb does spend time in the dining room and checks in with each guest which felt warm and welcoming. There were a few things for us that impacted a positive review of this place. First, our room was tiny and extremely dark. The photos did not highlight these issues. The second issue, which it seems others have commented on is that if you are not a habitual guest, than it did seem service was different. When booking we specifically requested assistance with booking things to do. Other than fishing, we received no assistance prior to our arrival and we asked more than once. We also learned we really didn't know what to ask for in terms of booking. We would learn of all these great things returning guests were doing with private guides over meals, but none of this was offered to us and when we asked about these activities, these guides had now all been booked. It took away from the positive experience we had hoped to have had. If you plan to come here year after year, I would recommend this place, otherwise, I would stay elsewhere…
I Took The Fishing Package & just can't say enough good things about Tuckamore Lodge from the time I was picked up at The airport until I returned to The same Airport at Deer Lake THe Drive to The Lodge was Fantastic as I enjoy seeing new Country. Everything was just great & even though Most of The Rivers were closed I caught Atlantic Salmon to about 9lbs & Brook Trout to 3-31/2 lbs. Over many years I've been to many Lodges in Canada & Alaska & I can honestly say Tuckamore Lodge is The Nicest & The Best I've been to. All The meals were well prepared & nice also I met many people from Canada & The USA
Absolutely perfect if you are looking for a secluded get a way and very limited wi if access. The property and main lodge are breathtaking. However we were put in lodge 2 in an extremely tiny room, extremely spotty wifi, and very very thin walls (we could hear almost everything from outside our room). The wi fi in the main lodge is a little better, but still not good. We needed wi fi to stay connected with work and were not able to. Dinner was very good, they were very accommodating with my dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy free), and we enjoyed the communal dinner, BUT we were shocked when we checked out to find out the dinner was $45. We should have checked before we ate, but it also should have been disclosed when we booked. There was no where else to eat that we could find nearby. We were going to stay for 3 days, but checked out after 1 because of the room and lack of wifi. We were shocked when we checked out that our $165 per night room came to $360 with dinner and tax.…
Nice accommodations, excellent location and access to St. Anthony. Beautiful deck overlooking the lake. Food is served family style and while it is not gourmet quality it is good. Dinners are available at a cost. Rooms are a little cluttered with furniture but are comfortable. Excellent common room. Good access to St. Anthony.
