Comfortable bed & location. Towels were thread bare! 3 days staff didn’t enter the room to replenish coffee/tea, cups etc, when asked if they could drop some in our room said we are not permitted to enter! Staff not friendly or knowledgeable about the area…didn’t know where we could get a park pass or didn’t know anything about Anchors Aweigh show held at the hotel! Not at all helpful! Need training in hospitality that NL is known for but unfortunately didn’t experience it here! Donot recommend

The Ocean View Hotel is a perfect spot from which to base your Gros Morne explorations. After flying in to Deer Lake and picking up our car, we toured the Tablelands area in the afternoon before checking in to the hotel late afternoon. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and we loved the view over the harbour. Dinner that night in the Oceans Room dining room was outstanding. We can highly recommend the seafood chowder, and the cod pan-friend in "scrunchions" and the fried ice cream dessert with "bakeapple" compote. Our first meal and already we were introduced to two delicious new Newfoundland delicacies. Our next day was spent touring the highlights of Gros Morne with Neil from Tour/taste Gros Morne). That night, back at the Ocean View Hotel, we enjoyed Dave Shear's musical performance in the Anchor Pub.

Room Tip: We stayed on the ocean side, and the view across the road to the harbour was very nice,...

Great location on the ocean...and close to Gros Morne National Park...and hiking. We stayed in a ocean view king suite...number 200...you understand...that follows 206, 207...200. Hmmm...interesting, but we were warned. The room was spacious and clean. However, why on earth would you place a large wooden bar (full of glasses, cutlery, plates etc) in front of the spectacular middle front picture window - kind of ruined the view. The place was also quite noisy...despite few visitors...it was easy to hear any noise from the hallway...or from the adjacent rooms. Thank goodness there weren't many there. Big leather chairs were lovely and comfy...but you sank in so nicely, that the tall bar blocked your view. Fireplace was nice...especially once we learned to plug it in, so it could operate. The bathroom was large and clean, but there was no tub. Seems that Newfoundland is set to close for the winter...and we learned upon arrival that the restaurant had closed a few days earlier. There would be no hot breakfast but a basic continental breakfast would be offered. The tea and coffee urns were both luke warm...so not the best. There was nice thick cut bread, and fresh bagels. on our 2nd and 3rd morning, there was also cream cheese and yogurt. All in all the king ocean view suite was not worth the cost. There was no outside balcony, like in the other rooms...so I think we would have preferred to pay less, and have a bar-less outside view.

Stayed here four nights, location is great for exploring Gros Morne. We had a Junior Suite which gave us a large couch in a very comfortable room. The couch was important as there is no lounge to sit in at the hotel. Other than the bar area, and you are denied access to this after 8pm unless you are prepared the pay the cover charge to see the entertainment. This appears to occur nightly with two different acts. The staff are helpful when asked but otherwise appear a little surly (but it may have been the end of a long season). Overall the hotel appears far better geared to coach parties than the independent traveller. Working on a voucher scheme for breakfast and forgetting to inform when everything shuts down mid stay (end of September)

The Ocean View Hotel in Rocky Harbour in Newfoundland and Labrador is on the waterfront, offering a great view of the marine activities. The rooms are comfortable and quiet, the restaurant meals are varied and excellent, and often there is great live entertainment in the pub! The Ocean View provides a great spot to explore all that Gros Morne National Park (and a UNESCO World Heritage Site ) has to offer, for people of all interests.
