Not sure where all the glowing online reviews are coming from My husband and I made same-day reservations online after reading good reviews and seeing website pictures. We arrived at 10:45 pm after a long day of driving from Yarmouth. My heart sank when we pulled into the parking lot which is on the highway. The buildings and grounds needed much work. It all looked old and weary. We hoped the interior would be better. Nope. The front office is tiny, smells overwhelmingly of some kind of unidentifiable odor and was not welcoming or attractive. The person at the front desk told me he had updated us at no cost to a lake view room, even though we had not requested one. I thanked him, and went to find our room. Our room was in a side building, detached from the main hotel building. It was dark, but if there was a lake view from our room, I am still looking for it. The room was small, old, outdated and the door locks flimsy. AC unit in the wall was loud. Breakfast was in the dining room, and it was okay. But, we will NOT return to this property. Perhaps if you had a true lake view room in the main building, the experience would be better. But, ours was not good. I have noticed that hotel management responds negatively to all unflattering reviews. Their favorite expression seems to be, “We are so busy that we don’t need your business, so we win!” So, to you I say that this review is honest and based on our experience from last week’s stay with your hotel. We will never be back , so in our view, We win!

We stayed at the Trailsman lodge in Nyanza, just on the outskirts of Baddeck, NS. The property is well kept, our room was very clean and we had a great view over looking Nyanza Bay. The room had a deck attached where you could sit out if you liked. The lodge was very quiet even tho it is close to the road. As for the room itself, there was two double beds, refrigerator, coffee maker and no carpet. Continental Breakfast is offered in the morning until 930am. I found the Trailsman lodge centrally located, only one hour to Sydney or really any place on Cape Breton that you would want to go. The only downfall is the internet service is not good at all, even tho it is free for guests. But over all we enjoyed our stay at the Trailsman Lodge and would consider staying there next time We are down that way.

Budget friendly, friendly service, comfortable with great views and breakfast included. Nice choice for a night with my family along our trip to Nova Scotia. I recommend if you are looking for a place that doesn't break the bank.

We stayed in the Trailsman for the start of the Cabot Trail and was a nice room with lake views. 20 to 30 minute drive to a lovely waterfall walk. Breakfast was average but not the best we had sampled on our travels.

The Good: WiFi worked well. The view from our room (52) was lovely. The bed was relatively comfortable...a bit too hard for us. Parking close to room. The free breakfast was average for this type of establishment. The Bad: TV wouldn't work even when we did what they told us to at reception. Dirty top sheet and dirty shower curtain. Whole place could use a good clean. Fairly run down. Conditioning Shampoo is garbage. The food at the restaurant is pretty bad...except the poutine, which was quite good.

Hallways smelled bad, sprayed with deodorants that irritated allergies. Room was dirty especially the bathroom. No heat and was given a noisy space heater that you couldn’t keep on because it was so loud you couldn’t sleep. Broken drawer on dresser wouldn’t stay closed and we hit it when you walked past. Overpriced for what you got, wouldn’t stay again.

We recently booked rooms at the Trailsman Motel in Baddeck, Cape Breton, through Booking.com. We were grossly overcharged for 4 people per room, even though there was only one person staying per room. Booking.com and the Manager of the motel blamed each other for not being able to correct the error, leaving us to absorb the mistake of $120. This motel is 1.5 stars at best. It is very out of date and really not somewhere we would ever stay again. Not only were the rooms dirty, especially the bathroom, but the heat did not work in one room and we were given a very noisy space heater.
