This place may be deceiving..but DO NOT let that stop you. Place is a huge home…several rooms typical of a B and B. We were greeted very friendly by the owner….and were checked in very quickly. Chatted quite a bit, and soon realized we were the only ones staying there. .also we’re told that COVID restrictions were recently lifted giving them the opportunity to reopen. Yes, we had to go downtown for breakfast, but we’re given the whole breakfast menu to choose from.
Back to the the ”luxury” suite itself. Yes the room isn’t huge…Yes the furniture it antique..but the bed is comfortable. You are given the choice to go down To the sitting area to watch tv….there is a coffee machine there to grind the beans for each and every cup you enjoy. Did we mind driving the .6 km down the road for breakfast? Not for that kind we sure weren’t. Do I recommend this place? FOR SURE! Bill was very kind, generous and we will for sure be telling people about his place. When we return, and I hope it’s not another 15 years, we hope this place is still here.
Thanks Bill, very very much!!!

I can’t say enough about this place and the ownership! We stayed only 1 nt. in a king room but wish we could have stayed longer. The location & view were phenomenal. We just needed to open the blinds & see the bay. Unfortunately, it was raining the whole while we were there, but had we stayed longer, we could have appreciated it for its true value. We had 4 choices for breakfast in a lovely dining room and were very pleased with it. But the best part of all was how kind and sweet Denise was. We arrived an hour later than normal check-in time, but she didn’t make an issue of it. We had not been very attentive to those types of details on this trip because United Airlines lost our luggage for 4 days and we were stressed out from that and was spending too much of our good vacation time working on that. Denise took it upon herself to help track the luggage down while we were eating breakfast. I’m not sure what kind of connections she has with the airlines, but she worked her magic. Every call we made landed us in a call center in India, but Denise got through to Air Canada in Sydney and discovered our bags were there. She told them to hold the bags for us while we hustled to get out of there and pick them up. She was so right about not trusting the bags to show up that evening by courier. I’m sure we would have waited another couple of days to be reunited with our bags had she not taken the initiative to help us out. Now that’s service! And it was with a smile! One of our best stays ever. Just way too short.

We had an amazing experience at this B&B. Denise was charming and helpful. Breakfasts were wonderful. Our room was plenty large (we had the "honeymoon suite") with a whirlpool tub in the room. The bathroom had a stand-up shower. There were plenty of linens and the room and everything was spic-and-span clean.

I often see reviews of B&Bs/small hotels that are negative because of limited desk hours, as has been done with this establishment. This is not a hotel. Do not expect it to operate one.

Also, as a childless couple, we appreciated the "no kids" rule. I know it's hard for couples with children to understand, but there's nothing like a screaming kid to ruin a childless couple's get-away.

Denise is a native to the area. Can recommend anything you need (food, activities, etc.). She also has great anecdotes of Cape Breton.

I will state some facts, but you must make your own decision on whether you want to book a stay here:
We were traveling with another couple and made reservations for two rooms several months in advance. We received a confirmation by email.
We were running late the day of arrival, so I called to tell them when we would be arriving. We were about 1.5 hours away. We were told our rooms were not available due to water damage. They said they were unable to reach us by email ahead of time. Obviously, we were upset and shocked by this news. They mentioned some other places in the area where we might find a room, but offered no other help.
We were frantic, but after a number of phone calls we were able to find a place that could offer us two rooms for three days.
I don't know where or why the breakdown in communication occurred, but it is very disturbing to have the rug pulled out from under you at the last minute like this.

We had made reservations at the "Bell View Luxury Suites" after several days of searching the internet. We made the reservation on Aug 9, 2010 for Sept 4, 2010. As the date approached, so did the possibility of a hurricane. The cancellation policy stated on their website is 72 hrs notice. My wife called to inquire what would happen if the storm hit. We were advised by the owner that unless 72 hrs notice was given we would be charged full rate for the room. My wife further asked if this would still be in effect if the Confederation Bridge was closed and was told in that case they may reconsider. The date arrived to make the trip and the bridge was not closed. We debated whether to go or not and decided to venture out in the storm. We arrived in Baddeck to find out that the power was out due to the storm passing through (we found this out when we looked for a gas station to refuel). We further ventured on through Baddeck to check in at the "Bell View". Upon arrival we were met in the parking lot by the owner (Denise Mulley) to be advised that they were not taking any guests, due to the power outage. At the time there was no explanation other than "we have no power". We asked if there was a possibility of seeing the room we were missing out on (we were impressed by the online photos) in case we were to return and again were told "we have no power". I thought they would have had a flashlight or candle to show us the room with and didn't think it was too much to ask after diving 6 hrs through a storm.
It wasn't until we got back in the car and started to drive that we looked at each other and said, what do we do now ? If this is everyone's policy, do we sleep in the car ? I then turned to the GPS and called another place to inquire for a room and was told they were full, but we could try McIntyres Cottages. I called and was told they had a cottage vacant. I was then was very nicely advised that if we wanted the cabin, there was no power and one flush. :) I asked the price and agreed. I later found out after checking online, that not only did they provide us with accommodations, but they also did it at a reduced rate. Thank you once again "McIntyre's Cottages".

I would also like to mention that we were advised by the owner that: She called in the morning and left a message regarding the storm and also had sent us an email. Unfortunately I can not confirm either. We had no message on our answering machine or record of a phone call with our caller ID and in regards to the email, i can't find it either. However i do still have the confirmation email that was sent in August.

After thinking over the situation for the last few days I decided to call and inform the owner I was not happy with what went on. I didn't quite get the response I expected. To say the least it was not a pleasant conversation and the only goodbye I heard was the click of a telephone.

In closing one thing I would like to mention is that according to Denise Mulley, her insurance would not cover any accident that may happen if the power was out. This was the main reason should would not let us stay.
So I was quite surprised when we drive back through Baddeck that we did not see all the other people that were thrown out into the streets to sleep in their cars, due to the power outage!!!

PS - Here's something else interesting, our confirmation says $159.00 and their homepage says $120 - $149 guaranteed

An official tourist info office recommended this as a luxury B&B so we booked for 2 nights and drove directly there. Our room was adequate at best: no closet - just a coat rack, no space in bathroom for toiletries, dirty windows that did not open. Certainly not luxurious, as advertised. After we informed the manager that we wished to stay only one night, her cancellation policy of 72 hours notice was brought to our attention, and we were held to that. Heck, we had only booked a few hours ago --- on the same day! We were so unhappy that we decided to spend only one night, even though we were forced to pay for the two. This was our only unhappy experience in our 2 week Maritime holiday. Two good points: the breakfast was tasty, and we were well situated to visit the Alexander Graham Bell Museum.

The place is old and tired. Very small room. Had to bring a few things in a bag as no room for two suitcases. Had to wait in foyer as receptionist was out. Photos on Internet are misleading. We would not depend on trip advisor in the future.

Stayed 2 nights and had a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. Room was comfortable and the host, Denise, was very gracious. The location is great, just minutes away from the Alexander Graham Bell Museum, and a perfect base from which to explore the Cabot Trail. Several other couples were staying there each day and conversation with the guests and with Denise was a great start for each day. Always had 3 choices for breakfast and those we had were very good.
