We stayed 2 nights in this lodge with 2 bedrooms upstairs and 1 family suite downstairs. Designed as a fishing lodge, it is comfy and cozy as opposed to sophisticated or historic. The balconies off of each room, are spacious and overlook the main street below, the water and the beautiful yachts and sail boats moored close to the pier. Each room is named after a salmon fishing fly and is furnished differently as bedrooms would be one's own home. Downstairs there is a living room with fireplace, should one want to sit there. The house itself is attached to the Yellow Cello Cafe which has a very reasonable and varied menu. You can eat on the terrace outside or inside. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. The staff could not be more friendly or knowledgeable and having spoken to 3 of them in particular, they all agree that it is a great place to work! It was in the cafe that we met the owner Billy who told us about converting the house into a lodge and opening the restaurant. When he showed us to our room the first day, he motioned to the laundry room and said we could use the machines if we wanted to. Having been on the road for a week, this was a welcome offer! Our room price included a full breakfast which we chose off of the regular menu. Aside from the traditional eggs, bacon, toast and home fries,,,, there was oatmeal with raisins or granola layered with fruit and yogurt sweetened with honey, served in a tall sundae glass and long spoon. Aside from the 2 breakfasts we also had our 2 suppers there as well. Why not? Great quality and lovely ambiance! I must admit that when we first went into our room on that hot day, I wondered if it would be cool enough to sleep or whether we would be bothered by smells and noise from the cafe and street below. My concerns were for naught! 2 fans kept the room comfortable, there was not a whiff of odors coming from the kitchen, the cafe closes at 9:00 and by then the street outside is almost empty. We look forward to returning again and recommend it to anyone who would like a unique place to stay in a very busy town during tourist season.

We stayed two nights with our two , three year old children in the room with two bedrooms. Booked through Booking.com . Strange uninviting check-in ...almost like they were surprised we arrived , even though they had our confirmation ..right there, plus I called ahead to make sure there were too twin beds for the children. Anyway we liked it OK and the breakfast was really good.... all was well until checkout. Then the owner or whoever...,same guy that checked us in wanted an exra $40.00 per night fopr the two kids. I showed him our booking confirmation and quoted rate ( good thing I had it) and I reminded him I called ahead ...so he finally agreed to hold at the quoted rate....not a nice ending.....won't stay again , there are lots of other places in the area!!!

Tho' comfortable enough and quite spacious, the value in staying here is having a large private deck that allowed us to keep the door open for good natural A/C, have great views of the lake and wharf for ogling the gorgeous yachts that come and go, and have somewhere to dry out our bathing suits and towels. Pam, who attended our room, was helpful and eager to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We thought the breakfast that was provided at the Yellow Cello down below was very good as it was possible, if you asked, to make substitutions, get orange juice and cappuccinos. We agree with the previous reviewer that we were never sure who the owners were or who was looking after the place. But otherwise, we had a very comfortable stay in hot, humid weather right in the middle of Baddeck.

I booked this place and he raised the rates during the process - even though he had no real reason. We thought the photos and his description of the Boathouse looked great so we booked it anyways. What ever you do stay clear of the "Boathouse"!!!! We arrived and checked this place out - we walked away immediately. The owner was ignorant about it. Maybe he should have 'disclosed" a bit more about the property before we booked it! The "Boathouse" is essentially a garage that is situated in his back yard. He fails to tell you that it is on his postage size back yard about 20 feet from his own house. Even worse the "Boathouse" (and his own house) is positioned on a sliver of land that is wedged between the water and a secondary highway. Your pillows are literally less than 10' feet from the road. Traffic noise is one thing - but how about a vehicle plowing right into your room if it goes off the road! I suggest that you stay clear of this place. We ended up staying at the Telegraph Motel - staff were great - and we got 2 rooms for less that the price of the "Boathouse". Needless to say - with the owner being such a jerk - we did not eat at the Yellow Cello. It looked tacky anyways. Happy travelling.

This was the worst B&B experience I've ever had. We were forced to wait 90 minutes for our key and endured terribly rude treatment from the manager before we finally gave up and left. Try the Lynwood Inn in Baddeck, where we stayed instead. It's not a B&B, but it's attractive, comfortable, friendly, and moderately priced. And it seemed like heaven to us after the awful experience we had at the Green Highlander Lodge.

Great location however the lower level room we had was just above the refrigeration units for the cafe below and was noisy all night. When asked how we slept the following morning, we said "The fridge is a bit noisy," and then we were shunned and told "Would you prefer that we had no refrigeration!". Simple solutions people: Move the fridge, insulate it or charge less money for that lower level room! Not good enough with so many international travellers coming to your region!

We had a great stay at the Green Highlander, the rooms e has were a nice size with a common room where you can chill or whatever. The view of the wharf and the closeness of the town were excellent. As far as some people saying that the staff and service were a little odd, I can only say that we were looked after and left alone at the same time if that makes sense. All you have to do is go down to the restaurant and ask if you need anything. I found the free coffee was very welcome! The place has a very laid back feel. If you expect something faceless like the comfort inn then you will be disappointed. It is a cute, quaint and friendly little place and I'll definitely stay there again. Breakfast was ok.

Stayed in the 'Blue Charm' on July 26, 2004. It was nice to have a separate room from the Kids. The room had everything you needed and it was very nicely decorated. There was a private viewing deck just above the roof of the 'Yellow Cello' restaurant just below. From the deck you could sit back and watch the tourists flock by. The 'Breakfast' part of the B&B was the Yellow Cello restaurant. The food was execellent and the staff was exetremely friendly.
Cons (although quite minor): 1. A bit pricey. It was $160 CAN before we got out the door for one night.
2. The kids went to bed early (9 pm), but the restaurant below was quite loud during their operating hours. It did quiet down by 11 however.

If you are a light sleeper avoid the Blue Charm room. It is over a restaurant and noisy. You hear compressors from equipment in the kitchen. The owner was very professional and refunded our money and we found a different place to stay.

Great location close to the dock. Quaintly decorated. Friendly staff. Good breakfast provided by The Yellow Cello. Lovely private balcony with water view. Only drawback was the room was very very hot and the small fan on the dresser did not help. I think that investing in a larger more efficient fan would easily fix the only issue that we experienced.
