The hosts were very friendly, both when we booked, upon our arrival and during our 5 day stay. The accommodation was conveniently located within walking distance of many of the main core attractions we wanted to see. We wanted a spacious room so was recommended their Honeymoon Suite which would also be great for a family with the extra single bed in the adjoining room. It’s on the 2nd floor so anyone to find stairs (about 10) challenging would not be a good fit. We suspect this room isn’t used as often as it had quite a musty smell when we opened the doors. Opening windows helped this a bit. The decor is very clean but dated which didn’t bother us too much. Unfortunately, the cleaning staff missed our room all week, even though we placed the “please clean sign” on the outside of the door. We would encourage future guests to reach out to the owners if his happens again as they are very happy to help. The continental breakfast is standard fair but tasty. The kitchen staff very friendly. This is an old lodge in need of a fresh coat of paint and some updating and hopefully in due time post Covid interruptions, they will be able to do this and bring her up to date with neighboring accommodations. We wish the owners the very best.

Ceilidh Country Lodge certainly met the needs of my friend and I, two women in our early 60's. Driving from ST. John's to Belleville Ontario, we had planned on tenting as much as possible. Arriving at 6:00 PM in North Sidney on the ferry from Newfoundland, we knew it would be raining in Nova Scotia and had booked a room at the lodge in advance. Check in was quick and easy and we found the first floor room in the building at the back of the grounds very clean and comfortable. More than delighted to find a large size bar fridge as we weren't expecting it. After settling in we decided to take a drive around Baddeck in search of a snack. Tom's Pizza didn't disappoint! Early to bed as Moncton was our destination the next day. Woke up to beautiful sunshine. Enjoyed our coffee and complementary breakfast and hit the road but not before taking some pictures of the lodge and grounds. A great place to rest after a long day or for a few days to explore the area.

This was the fourth stop on our road trip of the maritimes. The Ceilidh Country lodge was a relaxing stay. We were about a 5 minute walk to downtown Baddeck. The rooms were small and a bit dated, but the beds were comfortable. As others have mentioned, the room had a musty smell but we opened the windows and it helped. There was plenty of hot water but not the best water pressure in the shower. The air conditioning and the wifi worked well. There was a mini fridge and coffee maker but no usb outlets. They served a nice breakfast, there was eggs, sausages, English muffins, bread, oatmeal, cereal, juice, tea and coffee. The host Ellen was very friendly and accommodating! We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the lodge to anyone staying in Baddeck.

So we were on a family road trip and we had camping plans all along but it started raining. We looked around for rooms and decided to go for this one, around 150 after taxes we thought it looked quite cute from the outside and the price was nice so we took it. We went into the room, which was awful to open with the key but it’s fine. When we opened it there was a weird old mildew smell and absolutely no accommodations such as a fridge, kettle or even a microwave. We called and they told us to come down get it at the main house. We decided that we wouldn’t keep the room as it didn’t quite suit our taste and thought about discussing it with the reception for refund, we hadn’t touched the room yet. Well I personally wasn’t there but my mom called me to come in because she wouldn’t give a refund. I come in to the old lady yelling no no no she won’t hear a word from us whatsoever. We explained that we wouldn’t even take all the money just find a common ground she wouldn’t listen at all. That we were the ones looking for “cheap rooms” and came and looked at the room, there’s no way she would refund us. We told her she could examine the room and she wouldn’t hear anything from us and kept yelling! Didn’t want to ask why we weren’t satisfied or anything. Just big no’s, yelling and walking away. Customers arrived at she talked to them fast and they looked at us funny. She would just shake her head at my mom which did not have the best English (we were from Quebec but are Asians). The staff was nice though she offered us to use their microwave in the dinning room and told us she couldn’t do much which is understandable. The lady who claims being the boss/manager (I don’t think it’s the same thing but well) keeps ignoring us so we go back to the room. We opened the windows to air it (which we had a hard time doing). There was two seemingly dead flies on ceiling (see picture 2), stains on the carpet and walls, stains on the bedsheets (took one picture p3) and creepy/weird hand prints on the mirror (picture 1). We could hear the people upstairs and on the other side of the wall walking and using the water. We have stayed in older motels and really great one but the worst here was the attitude that we received, no openness to discussion, kept yelling and treated us as bothersome. Should’ve read the comments on the motel before, the appearance outside fooled us. Props to the one staff girl for staying nice although this was quite an uncomfortable and awkward situation for her. Old lady seemed nice but won’t deal with us the moment a problem arises. Definitely do not recommend and would not go back.

The motel looks very nice and inviting on the outside, but the inside is a super old dated dump with bugs in it. The room was covered in those Asian beetles crawling all over the ceiling (see pics). Their site also says pets are welcome for a $25 fee per room. When I got there she said it’s $25 per night (we stayed 2 nights) and I owed $50, and I said it does not say that on the website or the waiver I signed, and the front desk girl argued and said “well it doesn’t say per stay either” , in which I responded “it also doesn’t say per night” so in the end she gave up and charged me $25 (despite putting us in a Asian beetle filled room which can actually be fatal to dogs). Breakfast was a couple of burnt sausage patties and egg rounds laid out on a plate, not even on heat. They also provided us with 2 towels with 3 people in the room, and they didn’t clean the room after the first night or replenish the towels, we had to ask. We wanted to leave the first night but sadly there were no other pet friendly accommodations. 0/10 do not recommend!!!!!

Good Day Fellow Travelers, I felt the need to convey my disappointment with the overall experience with Ceilidh Country Lodge. As an avid traveler who frequents Baddeck, NS every fall and makes Ceilidh our annual stopover while in the area, this year was a total bust!
Not sue if the lodge is under new management or if something has changed from previous years to now, but we were extremely disappointed. Previously Ceilidh had rustic charm, a clean room and great location. It was not the "Bells and whistles" of lodging and was a bit run down, but what made us return year after year was its overall aura of "Family like" environment, the friendly staff and beautiful gardens.
This year, we did not even make it to the "door" so to speak. It was the entire booking process and dealing with the management team at Ceilidh which made it a total "turn off" experience. Calling directly to the lodge to make reservations only to be told "someone will call you back" yet, no one did. Calling again the second day to be told again "someone will call back in 30 minutes", an hour and a half later received a call indicating the dates were not available. So, since we really wanted to say there, we called again, 3rd time with different dates to be told again " I will call you back".. getting a little frustrated and giving the clerk the benefit of the doubt they might be busy, I proceeded with reservations through their website, received an email confirmation. Since I did not hear back from the Ceilidh Clerk, I called again.. and this time indicating I had a reservation number and wanted to confirm. again, was told she would call me back in 15 minutes, but never heard back. So, I called and asked to speak with the manager, was told first I could deal with her, I insisted on talking with the manager and called back 2 hours later, spoke with the manager and was told they were over booked and had no room for us, despite the reservation and confirmation number given, Long story shortened, had I not followed up with my calls, we would have landed at Ceilidh Country Lodge for our stay only to find out our room was given to someone else and we would have been left scrambling to find accommodations last minute! The clerk and manager apologetic, there were more of a "matter of fact" attitude with no feeling or kindness. Sadly, we love the Baddeck area, but we will NEVER book the Ceilidh Country Lodge for any future stays, we will source out a new location who will treat travels like family with kindness and respect. Think again if you wish to book the Ceilidh Country Lodge, it will NOT be work your stay or experience. Safe and Happy Travels!

Our check-in experience was the beginning of our terrible stay: we were told the price that had been quoted was a mistake, the desk person gave us a price $20 per night higher, then proceeded to scribble a bunch of numbers on a scrap of paper, took out her calculator!, and gave us a price that was far more for our 4 night stay than we had planned. Then, our room was not ready. Arriving late the second day, we found our room not done. After loud complaints from me we were assured it would be done each day thereafter - and it was not. Beds made up once in all the time we stayed. The heat didn't work, the window coverings didn't completely cover the windows, the tv was useless because it was in a cabinet with doors that did not open up enough to see the screen from either bed. The breakfast staff did their best, though the toasters didn't work and the hot breakfast was never hot. Because there was no staff at the desk when we left early, I did not get my promised printout of the charges. Despite emailing once I was home, i of course have received nothing back. Give this place a miss!!

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour. The outside of the hotel is lovely and the view across Lake Bras D’Ors is gorgeous.

However, when opening the door to the room you are hit with a musty, dank, unpleasant smell. The room is old and hasn’t been updated in many many years. The carpet was stained and the bed linen was dated. There were no convenient power points to charge devises. There were only two small, limp pillows on the bed. The TV is very old and small and hidden in an old cupboard. The air con was very noisy.

The bathroom is also very dated and, while reasonably clean, has mould around the bath. The first bath towel I picked up had a huge brown stain on it.

Breakfast was very average - bacon and egg muffins and toast or instant porridge. I had to request milk for coffee as it was away in a fridge behind a bar.

It is such a shame that this hotel has been left to deteriorate - an upgrade would make this a wonderful place to stay.

Our second night there was a night from hell!!! We lost the power at 1PM in the afternoon and it was out until 10 or 11 pm that night. When it got dark you could not see a thing. They never came around with flash lights for the guests to use and they never came around to each room the make sure we were ok. We were on the second floor of the building and there were three stairways to get to the second floor. When it was totally dark they had no one at the stairways with flashlights to help their guests get to the second floor. Three of us were seniors and it was very hard to see in the dark to get up the stairs. When the power finally came on we did not have lights in the bathroom and the plugs did not work. After talking to the Manager he said it was not his fault and there would be no partial refund for all the inconvenience . He just walked away and went back to his office. I do not recommend this lodge and we will never stay there again.

Unfortunately it looks much better online. This lodge is not the same as described by previous guests, I think it changed owners
It is very run down , the carpet (very unsanitary) is old and has stains. In the bathroom there are moldy spots in the grout, the faucet has lost all of its chrome, nothing has been replaced, except maybe the mirror. The furniture are old and worn, they could be painted to at least to make them look better.
Breakfast was very disappointing. There are tasteless egg patties, and some very salty bacon. Toast was ok, but the muffins tasted like sawdust, only one type of cereal, milk and coffee, served in paper cups and plastic cutlery.

I have booked and we have a room in the Skye Building but I can not find info as to what this building is.
Answer from jacklw
Bluffton, South Carolina13 contributions11 helpful votes
There are several buildings including the main house. We stayed at what I believed was the building at the highest point of the property. It is a 50s type strip motel building with about 20 rooms side to side. We drove up the driveway to the building. We were able to walk down to the main building for breakfast. If you have health issues or physical limitations it may be difficult to walk back up to the room after breafkfast. Whether or not this is the "Sky" building I cannot say. The sister property across the road appears newer and more modern.
