Auberge Gisele's Country Inn captivates guests with its charming atmosphere and scenic, well-kept grounds, although the quaint vibe extends to the rooms which some find outdated. The hotel's amenities have received criticism for being dated, indicating a need for modernization. While the cleanliness generally meets guests' expectations, areas that require more attention have been noted.
Opinions on value vary, with some guests finding the pricing reasonable despite concerns over room sizes and additional charges. Service quality appears to be a mixed bag, with some staff members providing commendable assistance, whereas managerial support sometimes falls short. The location is favored for its proximity to local attractions, yet a few guests might consider it slightly isolated.

Detailed Reviews
Overall the stay was pleasant. The staff was friendly durning check in and check out and there always seemed to be staff on hand when or if required. Boasting being the only 4 star Canada Select property does come with a higher expectation and there were certainly some areas to improve. The room was clean, tidy and provided us with what we required for the most part but amenities were basic and nothing over the top. We did have to go to the front desk for extra toilet paper, and a few things, so attention to detail by housekeeping could have been a bit more intuitive. The grounds are beautiful and the Inn itself in good repair. I would recommend for safety, cleanliness and to keep critters out that you close your exterior doors, they are left open 24/7 and the hall ways swarming with insects, some meeting their demise squished all over the hallway walls 👎Also like other comments I too was put off by being told that the dinning room could only be accessed around the bus tours schedule. My value as a guest is just as important as a tour and being asked to accomodate their schedule was honestly a bit off putting and to be honest cost your dinning room between $250-$500 potential revenue because we chose to eat elsewhere during our 4 day stay. The location in Baddeck is an excellent home base to enjoy the local shops and eateries and makes a perfect destination to explore Cape Breton. The value for money might fall a bit short. Would I stay again? Perhaps, but I'd certainly consider a few other properties in the area before deciding. I guess to sum it up. The experience was good but lacking the WOW factor and amenities for one of the higher priced properties in the area. I understand like others that staffing is an issue in this day in age but if you charge a premium you need to back it up with the services. I hope you find these recommendations fair and helpful feedback.

Wife and I spent a night at this location while touring the Cabot Trail. We had room 407, king bed with propane fire place, fridge, coffee maker, robes and slippers. Lovely room, very comfortable and clean. The staff were extremely friendly, the property is very well maintained and looks out over the Bras Dor lake, located within walking distance of the Main Street. After spending a day of hiking and driving, we decided to relax and eat at the inn rather than going out, the food in the restaurant was very good and reasonably priced, staff were very friendly. The Saturday that we stayed here also happened to be our anniversary and we could not have been more pleased. Continental breakfast is also included in your stay, cereal, boiled eggs, pastries, etc.. nice touch before heading out.

Baddeck was a perfect location for a 2 night stay to drive the Cabot Trail and take in the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. Being off season it was not busy but we arrived to find well cared for landscaping, helpful owners, comfortable beds, pillows and linens and hot showers. The restaurant had not opened for the season but a recommendation for the Freight Shed was great and Tom’s Pizza also exceeded expectations. A Tim Hortons and gas station were only a few kilometres away. Good value in a well cared for but not newer property

For the cost of $504.00 for two nights, I expected more.
We were stuck with a toilet that barely flushed, and didn’t suck down the toilet paper… speaking of toilet paper- we had a half of a roll in our room, and that was it.
Towels for two in the room only, even though the room had two beds and we were a family of four.
We left our room during the second day of a three day, two night stay- and we did not receive a visit from housekeeping. When we returned in the evening we had to call down for towels and toilet paper to be replenished.
Attention to detail would go a long way: we noticed on the second day that our mini fridge was plugged in but not actually turned on.
The mattress cover and sheets are too small for the beds, so they were slipping off of the bed whenever we were on/in the beds.
Breakfast was not included, and we were told that if we wanted to eat in the dining room we would have to eat around the timing of the bus tour guests.
For the price we were charged, I would have expected better attention to detail, and a few more amenities at the least.
We will not book at this hotel again, it is not a good value for the money whatsoever.
I want to add that I know it is difficult to find and retain employees in these post-pandemic days… but if these issues are due to staffing issues, prices need to be lowered so that guests are not expecting higher service for the value paid.

We weren’t staying at the Inn but came for dinner and were blown away. We ordered the smoked salmon and couldn’t believe the portion size for the price. The whipped horseradish was also a unique touch. We smelled the fettuccine Alfredo being delivered to another table and had to have it. Quite possibly the best Alfredo I have ever had, and the lobster addition is worth it. The fish tacos were a unique combination, feta and jalapeño but also among the best I’ve had. This is definitely a must go to for seafood lovers, the prices are totally reasonable and the portions are more than worth it. The server we had was also super friendly and helpful, I wish I could remember her name. She suggested a lot of things for us to do in the area that were very tailored to what we were interested in.

Not Happy - Booking agent completely messed up our booking and would not cancel it even though we where still actively on the phone and was told our credit card was going to be bill regardless and DID! - Agent booked one room with 2 beds, but I asked for 2 separate rooms and also booked the room 1 1/2 hours from our location at 11pm at night and in the wrong direction we where traveling in.
Agent still refused to cancel the booking and transferred me to another agent only to get the exact same refusal. Called back again to cancel it as it was not reasonable to travel that distance at 11pm but was again denied a refund.

The Auberge Giesele Hotel was in a great location. Some rooms overlook the water and we could walk to shops and restaurants in the small town of Baddeck. There were pretty flowers and places to sit outside. There was plenty of parking in their lot as well. The room was large and the bed comfortable. Admittedly, the pillows were too firm for my taste, but some people like a firm pillow. The towels were large and soft and there was a second sink outside of the bathroom which was helpful when someone was inside the bathroom. The room was clean and it had a fireplace that would be cozy on cold days, but the decor was a bit too busy for my taste. Overall, we were comfortable in our room.

This hotel is past its prime. The rooms are more like motel quality, and the TINY bathrooms are pitiful. The sink and tub look like they're 20 years old. Toiletries so pitiful they don't count. Small fridge and small coffee maker but only had decaf coffee. NO safe.
Poor restaurant food and service. And NO bar -- just a tiny closet-size area where a waiter tries to supply limited beer and wine options as well as a few mixed drinks if they're not much more than a liquor and mixer. And only during meal service.
The laundromat is only open after 8:30 in the morning and is locked again mid-evening. No chance of doing laundry before or after your day of touristing. Plus the machines require money (other hotels have been free except for detergent).
Spent 2 nights here and did NOT enjoy them. The location is a significant walking distance from the main area of town where the restaurants, shop, theatre, etc are located. Typically had 2 or 3 large buses of tour groups each night. Trying to get dinner or breakfast was a hassle.

+1
I would classify this as a motel-style. The room we were assigned, 416 in Hilltop House building, to the right of the Main house, was a ground floor end of the hall unit. A physical key is used to access the door. The room has a musty smell I can only attribute to the age of everything that's in it. WiFi here is strong only near the windows, elsewhere, service drops.
There is a gas fireplace, a second sink in the entry/pantry area that contains a microwave and mini fridge. The pantry sink faucet runs loud when you turn the water on. The bathroom is tiny and has a weird cut into the otherwise square room to accommodate a built-in table and mirror where the coffee/tea maker equipment is placed on the other side of the wall. They should've saved the space for the bathroom and put the coffee/tea maker in the pantry area.
None of the faucets have aerators so the water that comes out is strong. So strong, the shower doesn't fully engage to the top showerhead and half just flows down the faucet. Had to let front desk know this, the tip was, turn the shower faucet half way, direct the flow to the shower head and turn the rest of the faucet all the way.
The room could use an update, everything is old, and dated. Particularly the shower head. There was plumbers tape around it and it still sprayed water up the ceiling, the sides of the shower, etc.
Beds were very high and mattress too soft and lumpy. Found a hair on the sheets....
The dinner we had in the main house wasn't bad. Breakfast was average.

Stayed here for a number of days and found the room pleasant but somewhat dated. Bedroom has been updated but the bathroom from the 40 year old tile on the walls to the rusted baseboard heater turned us off. Perhaps the hotel is in stages of updating but total renovation room by room would be more appropriate, than pieces here and there. We stayed in the Hilltop units and the view from our window was nice. A/C unit looks like it is 40 years old and fireplace didn't fire up even when following instructions. Maid service was very good. TV only accessible if laying on the bed and very few outlets that were available when all the lamps etc. are plugged in. We are in an electronic age here people so perhaps you could at least put in some multi plugs and USB ports. Other than that we had a pleasant stay and staff were very accommodating.
