Every once in a while you come across a spot that rivals the larger chain hotels. The Cornerstone Motel is one of them. The couple that owns it has obviously put their heart and soul into this quaint locale by the Cheticamp River. One of the many bonuses of the motel is that it is right at the entrance location to Cape Breton Highlands National Park. It is just a short drive(5 minutes) back into Cheticamp for restaurants etc.

We stayed for two nights in the middle of July as a base for exploring the National Park. Our room(#15) was as large as those found in major hotel chains. It was exceedingly clean and well-furnished. The large window looked out into the river making having a morning coffee very soothing.

It came equipped with satellite TV and the wifi was very strong given the rural location of the motel. The was a microwave and a small fridge in the room which was nice. There was also a coffee maker as well.

The grounds are quite large(I forget how many acres) and immaculately kept. They have cut some short hiking trails through the property and there is also a fire pit(always well stocked with wood) that was used by guests each night we were there.

Honestly, we can't say enough about The Cornerstone. Very reasonably priced($300) for two nights, and being adjacent to a National Park is wonderful.

This place is well worth checking out.

We will definitely be back.

We really appreciate your review GlenMckenzie1! It was our pleasure hosting you and your traveling guests! We couldn't agree with you more and thank you for taking the time to share your great experience here and all of the added amenities we offer over most of the other motels. It is our passion to make sure that we provide a place where you can relax and rest your head for the night, but with all of the extra's it is well worth the price! When traveling everybody likes to find a place with clean rooms and comfortable newly renovated rooms. We are proud to say we are the place to come as you have pointed out. You can't get closer to the National Park without actually being in it! We don't think there is a better location on the Cabot Trail! It was great having you stay with us and would very much look forward to having you back if you are out this way again!

What an absolutely wonderful place to recharge along the Cabot Trail!
As a professional travel writer and videographer, I'm in several hotels/motels/lodgings monthly.

I visited in mid-August and was warmly welcomed by Cathy and Greg upon arrival. I got the quick history on the Cornerstone, clear directions to my room, info on terrific local dinner options and shown the nearby hiking trails.

They also told me about a high-rated bakery close by and a nearby beach where I could enjoy my coffee and pastries while watching the waves, which turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip.

If you're looking for a clean room, astounding customer service and want to support a local business opposed to an Air B&B, the Cornerstone Motel is an astounding choice.

I'll certainly be returning.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cornerstone Motel with Kathy and Greg last week.

Our room overlooking the river was spotless and comfortable and quiet.

At this tranquil setting you are only a few minutes from Cheticamp in one direction and practically at the doorstep of Cape Breton Highlands National Park with it's breathtaking beauty and many opportunities for hikes await.

Questions about what trails are a "don't miss this"? You can count on the warm hospitality of the owners along with spot on suggestions.

We are happy to recommend the Cornerstone Motel as a base for exploring the park and relaxing in the scenery.

We stayed here 1 night after our visit to Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Very easy just outside the boundary of the park.
The room was spacious and clean.
The owners are very friendly and welcoming.
Dinner options are available in the city centre.
Parking is free on the domain.
Breakfast is not included, you can use the tables in the lobby in the morning where there is coffee and tea. A little further is a bakery which is highly recommended.

It's been 6 years since we visited this property and this year we enjoyed 3 nights here with our two younger grandchildren. Greg and Kathy are amazing Owners/Hosts. To us, curb appeal is very important as it shows the care and pride the owners have in their business and the curb appeal here does not disappoint ! A large, well groomed property with trails to the Cheticamp River's edge and a wonderful firepit for toasting s'mores in the evening and visiting with other guests add to the pleasure of staying here. Very close to the West entrance to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and close enough to the town of Cheticamp. The rooms are clean and well presented and Greg and Kathy ensure that any needs of their guests are met with a smile and genuine friendliness. We highly recommend the Cornerstone Motel for a lovely, peaceful stay !!

Conveniently located at the entry of the National Park this motel has everything you look for. Good size rooms, super clean and very tastefully repainted outside with bright colours making it quite attractive. Fire pit outside for guests. Very friendly owners that will point where to go for supper and more.

We stayed here on our last night in Nova Scotia, having done the Cabot Trail counter-clockwise. Great location not too far from park entrance. We had a queen room in the back section, away from the road. A good change from the large chain hotels we are used to, able to park car right outside door, which was great because it started to rain and high winds the next morning upon departure. The view from the room in the back was just lovely, worth the extra few dollars. Bed was comfy, room was very clean. We walked the little nature trail they have on site. You can tell they take care to maintain the property. Host was very friendly. A great find.

What a great review Jnutfe! Just like you we too like the motel feel, parking right at your door, no lugging things up elevators or stairs, just unload at the door! It is always hard to tell online if the place you book is going to disappoint, but with reviews like this travelers will see we take great pride in making sure rooms are clean and comfy... its not just hype and sales talk! Glad to hear we made your stay amazing Jnutfe and hope to have you back soon for another visit to the area!

Great location next to the Cheticamp River, with the river and mountains as the backdrop, just minutes from the entrance to Cape Breton Highlands National Park and roughly two miles north of the town of Cheticamp. Wife and I stayed one night while touring the Cabot Trail.
Friendly check in, offered suggestions and a lay of the land. We had a queen size river view room, however in looking at the property, you can’t go wrong with either a river view or mountain view room, great scenery all round. Our room was clean and comfortable with a coffee maker, fridge and microwave. We enjoyed our morning coffee while looking out at the river. The property is well maintained and we enjoyed the walking trail on the property. Wife and I thought that this was truly a little gem, beautiful scenery, far enough out of town that you are alone with nature but only a 5 minute drive to the town. Prior to going, had read positive reviews on trip advisor and this property did not disappoint, great experience travelling the trail, nice and kind of retro in that there are no large hotel chains, rather family owned properties. Would certainly recommend this property, would stay there again and would rate it 4.5 out of 5.

Hi, Not sure where you may have read this, but we do not have a free breakfast at the Cornerstone Motel. Please advise where you may have obtained this information so I can contact the owner of the site to correct it. At present, we don't have an operational restaurant, but we are in the process of trying to get one started, but that won't happen until 2019 at the earliest. However the good news is you can get a breakfast about 5 minutes away by car. Hope this helps, Greg Owner and Host of Cornerstone Motel

Hi and thanks Nancy for considering the Cornerstone Motel as your preferred place to stay while visiting the amazing Cheticamp area! Unfortunately we don't have any roll out beds and only provide fixed beds in our rooms. We want to make sure each and every guest remembers the wonderful experience they had staying here and anyone sleeping on a cot/roll out bed won't get the full benefit of a good night's sleep, so we don't offer it here. However we do offer 2 rooms side-by-side, one with 2 beds and one with 1 bed so you can stay close together. Feel free to give us a call between 9am to 9pm (AST) and we would be glad to set you up, or you can book directly on our website in order to choose your rooms at your leisure. Hope to hear back from you Nancy! Greg, your Host and Owner
