We stayed here on our last night in Nova Scotia, having done the Cabot Trail counter-clockwise. Great location not too far from park entrance. We had a queen room in the back section, away from the road. A good change from the large chain hotels we are used to, able to park car right outside door, which was great because it started to rain and high winds the next morning upon departure. The view from the room in the back was just lovely, worth the extra few dollars. Bed was comfy, room was very clean. We walked the little nature trail they have on site. You can tell they take care to maintain the property. Host was very friendly. A great find.

Hotel's Favourite
What an absolutely wonderful place to recharge along the Cabot Trail! As a professional travel writer and videographer, I'm in several hotels/motels/lodgings monthly. I visited in mid-August and was warmly welcomed by Cathy and Greg upon arrival. I got the quick history on the Cornerstone, clear directions to my room, info on terrific local dinner options and shown the nearby hiking trails. They also told me about a high-rated bakery close by and a nearby beach where I could enjoy my coffee and pastries while watching the waves, which turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. If you're looking for a clean room, astounding customer service and want to support a local business opposed to an Air B&B, the Cornerstone Motel is an astounding choice. I'll certainly be returning.

The owner operators were welcoming, warm and helpful. We had a view of the river, comfy beds, good wifi and excellent travel advice. We loved staying a bit out of the hubub but being close enough to eat out.

The Cornerstone Motel was a great base for exploring Cheticamp and the gorgeous scenery of Cape Breton Highlands National Park - or, in the case of rain (our visit coincided with Hurricane Lee), just relaxing in a beautiful environment. Cathy and Greg were terrific hosts, patiently answering our pre-arrival questions (we had a lot of storm-related anxiety), making helpful recommendations, and listening to me enthuse over the local birdlife and my (finally!) successful quest to see a Spruce Grouse. We're very glad we paid the modest additional rate for a river-facing room, for the great views it provided, though I'm sure the other units are also tranquil and comfortable. Freshly-brewed coffee was available in the office in the morning, and tea all day. No breakfast was offered at the time of our stay, although they appear to be gearing up to provide it in the future. Not a problem; we brought provisions for our room, and the delightful Au Coin bakery is just a short ways down the road. The national park is literally walking distance from the hotel, a huge perk. If we make it back to Cape Breton, as I very much hope we do, we would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Super well kept, inside and out. Helpful owners. Comfortable bed, recently renovated bathroom and shower, good towels. Right next to the Chéticamp River and the National Park. Our room had a gorgeous view on the river (not all rooms have a river view, but the whole place is nice to look at). The room was spacious and well furnished, but you don't have to stay in, you can unwind by sitting outside or walking the grounds. There is a large open lawn, and a path through a forested lot by the river. We had a very peaceful experience. At night, road traffic dies right down and it can be hours between cars. The location is a good base for day trips to the National Park and other areas of interest in the region.

Beds comfy. Very clean. Loved having happy hours overlooking the river. We especially liked the proximity to the Skyline Trail. And, there are numerous hiking trails in this area. This is a very quaint motel and worth the stay.

An excellent stop. We stayed two nights in a room facing the river. Comfortable bed and chairs and thicker than expected towels. Very hardworking and nice owners. We enjoyed the birches on the property and on the sunny afternoon it was relaxing to read in the Adirondack chairs.

Probably the best, no, skip that…ABSOLUTELY THE BEST place to stay on the Cabot Trail. My brother is a business manager and said that he has never stayed overnight in a motel so clean and comfortable…and he stays in 5⭐️ hotels regularly. I had lucky room 13 and woke up to a beautiful view of the river. Comfiest sleep ever, hot showers, cleanest linens, and fluffiest towels. Cabot Trail starts a stone’s throw away too. Motorcycle friendly and really just overall people friendly…owners seem to be the happiest folks on Earth! Stay here if you can…worth every penny ❤️
