Can’t quite work out what they are doing at this hotel. We booked a deluxe Queen suite overlooking the sea with full kitchen. They checked us in to a basic suite with accessibility on the lower floor. It had a small fridge, microwave, coffee make and two cups (plus a spoon and a knife… go figure on the knife lol). We are travelling round Nova Scotia and staying at many hotels and I couldn’t put my hand on the reservation confirmation straight away but I couldn’t quite work out why the room didn’t seem to be what I thought I had reserved. I found my reservation confirmation later on that evening and discovered they had switched suites on us without saying a word. I looked at the credit card receipt and they had crossed out what turned out to be the deluxe suite and changed it to this lower grade room, on leaving I also discovered they had done the same on our car parking ticket, no explanation, perhaps they thought we wouldn’t notice. Unfortunately by the time I realized and with all the other things that went wrong, I was so mad I just wanted to leave… we spent the night and left as planned the next day.

Firstly when we arrived we were given a key with number 5 on and told the room was at the back downstairs, we couldn’t find the room…. Went and asked where it was and the lady who showed us seemed put out that we didn’t realize it was the room by the name… funny the door said number 4, not helpful when going by the number on the key.

Couldn’t connect to Internet at all, was made to feel it was our fault and if we couldn’t connect then we couldn’t connect. My partner stood outside the restaurant and connected no problem so obviously it wasn’t our service provider. Then couldn’t get channels on the tv box, someone came and sorted that for us but again felt it was not only an inconvenience but that we were obviously the ones at fault. I was so upset by the whole experience I was ready to leave that night. I felt at this point there was no point in saying anything as we were made to feel uncomfortable and I just couldn’t speak without being emotional.

Overall the bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless. The bathroom needs updating for sure. No rubber mat to stand in in the shower made it very hazardous. The floor doesn’t feel safe by the shower, it creaks loudly and the shower itself needs updating.

How can a hotel change a room on you and not have the courtesy to say something when you check in? If they had double booked it then let the customer know, our booking was for the deluxe room and we did not get what we asked for. Or was there some other reason? Who knows but I can’t believe they would blatantly cover up the way they did. Not happy at all. We stay in hotels all over the world and the customer service at this one I would say is one of the worst I’ve experienced. Would tell people to double check they have what they booked and paid for before unpacking.

We recently spent 14 days on the Cabot trail; staying in five different hotels. The Auberge Bay Wind Suites was, by far, the best place we stayed (one of our comparison stays was an ocean view room at the Keltic Lodge).
The owner was very friendly and helpful from booking to check out.
We had an ocean view room. The views from our private balcony and bedroom were awesome! The room was large, clean and very updated. We were both very impressed and would definitely stay there again, if in the area. Highly recommended.

We also had dinner at their restaurant, the Harbour Restaurant. OMG! The best (and most reasonable) meal we had during our 14 day stay!

Thank you for making the dreary days we had so much better.

We stayed in the Highland Suite. It was spacious, well appointed, clean and had great views. Awesome tub! Friendly staff, though note that you need to check in by 8, when the restaurant closes. This is an unhosted experience. Now for the cons: the suite is located directly above the restaurant and you can hear and feel through the walls and floors the low buzz of the equipment below. It was most pronounced right underneath where you lay your head for the night. It may be fine with some. I was just uneasy about it. Also I wanted to open the windows but they’ve all been made inoperable by removing the handles. We were told this was a precaution against strong winds but it did not sit well with me to be sealed up in the space. Just something to be aware of.

The suite was ok, nothing spectacular and the bathroom is pretty outdated. I used the jacuzzi tub after a long hike to soak my legs and the jets kept coming on without being turned on while I was in the tub and even after I got out. There is no reception area for the hotel and we were not made aware of this after checking in at the restaurant downstairs (that closed at 8). After numerous calls to the hotel with no answer, we were left with no solution to the issue throughout the night as the jets continued to turn on and off on their own. Not a great experience. But the view is pretty…

Oh dear - where do I start. This is the first time I'm giving a one-star-rating. If I don't like a place I'd rather just forget about the experience afterwards, I prefer writing about places I liked - to say thanks to our hosts and tell others about it, so they might enjoy staying there, too. However, in this case I really feel I should warn other travellers. We found this accommodation truly disappointing.
Please note: This review only refers to the accommodation, we did not eat at the restaurant and therefore cannot comment on that.
We often stay in self-contained apartments on our travels, but we haven't seen anything like the "Highlander Suite" before. We left after one night (although we had booked and paid for two nights) because we just wanted to get out of there.
I agree with previous reviews that staff was polite. The apartment is also rather spacious. Unfortunately though, we could not make use of the kitchen - and that's the point why we rented a self-contained apartment, we had intended to cook there. Kettle and pots in the kitchen were in such a state and had obviously not been cleaned properly that we felt we couldn't even boil any water for coffee with that equipment, let alone cook. You often have to do a bit of cleaning in apartments like these and that's not really a major issue - but here we felt it was just pointless, too many utensils simply needed to be replaced.
What was really disturbing was that not a single window could be opened as all the handles had been removed - so you have the choice of sitting there in the sweltering heat or in the draught from the aircon or the fan. We would also have liked to open a window as the smell in the apartment wasn't great.
The harbour view would have been nice, but you can't see much due to the flyscreens (why flyscreens if you cannot open the windows anyway?).
The toilet looked as if it hadn't seen a brush in ages. There were hairs on the towels as well as dust under the bed and grease on the furniture in the living room.
The last straw was when we saw the bed. The bed linen was covered in hairs, the blanket on top of it smelt as if it had not been washed in quite a while and so did the pillows.
All in all, the flat urgently needs cleaning and quite a few things have to be repaired or replaced.
The photos of our apartment on the internet are quite dated - this might have been a nice place once, but today it just needs an overhaul.
I can only advise other travellers to book accommodation elsewhere - this is not value for money.

We stayed at the Baywind Suites on October 5, 2021.

We stayed in the Lighthouse Suite which had a fantastic view and balcony right on the boardwalk. The room was spacious with a living area, bedroom and a huge bathroom. The rooms are a little dated but nothing serious. Be a great spot to stay for a few days.

We missed that there was nothing in the room about the local area, or at least we couldn’t find anything. Check in was easy and done in the restaurant. You pay on checkin and just leave the key when you check out. We missed having a TV in the bedroom, tissue and the bed was very firm. Bathroom was very well stocked with towels and I loved the shower.

We paid 217.35 for one night which considering it’s location was good. We walked everywhere we needed to go.

For the price you pay for this place we expected more. The staff were friendly and the room was clean, but at $200+ per night we expected a little bit more than a dated apartment. We were able to rent a whole cottage on the other side of Cape Breton for less money with a better view. The view of the ocean is obscurred by land maybe 200-300 meters across from the shore, which also seems to have a cattle ranch on it. Also the whole town has a rather foul odour about it reminiscent of sewar. The only good whale watching "nearby" is 45 minutes North of the town. My advice would be to not stay here where it is over priced, but stay on the other side the eastern side of cape breton and use it as a base for your travels.

The Bay Wind Suites was a convenient overnight stop on our trip around the coast of Nova Scotia. It is not a hotel, as such, more like a restaurant with rooms. Check in is done in the restaurant. After checking in you are pretty much left to fend for yourself.
There are four suites. We had number 1, Bay View. Access was up a flight of stairs which ran up the outside of the building. The suite consisted of a good sized lounge with coffee/tea making equipment and a full sized fridge. The bedroom had a large comfortable bed. Both rooms were furnished quite simply but in keeping with the seaside location. The bathroom was one of the largest that I have stayed in with an oval shaped jacuzzi bath. A nice touch were the candles (and importantly the matches) for anyone wanting a relaxing soak after a days site seeing. All rooms were very clean and well presented.
The views from every window were fantastic and sitting on the private balcony overlooking the Gulf of St Lawrence was lovely.
The restaurant does not open for breakfast. However, there are several places nearby who serve breakfasts.

This was the first time my boyfriend and I went went around the Cabot Trail. Just us 2. Trying to get away for the weekend. The trail itself is beautiful. We stayed in the lighthouse suite, which was ok. It was clean, nice bedroom and bed. The sofa was too off set of the tv and hutch. The pressure in the shower was very LOW. The noise of the restaurant upstairs was very loud. Found rate of room expensive for what you get. Had supper in the restaurant. Wings and mussels were good as an app. Burger was burnt on bottom(looks like they placed it that way so we wouldnt notuice) Steak was ordered med rare and came out med well. Had better food. The view from the restaurant and roomis amazing with a beautiful sunset. Looks like a new place. No check in desk, and wait staff not all capable of checking a person in.

We stayed at the Bay Wind Suites in Sept 2003 for one night. It was quiet, clean and we had a lovely boardwalk porch to watch the sunset. We stayed in the Lighthouse Suite. It was three rooms....the bedroom, living room and bathroom. The living area had a refrigerator that was very nice to have. Everything was new and clean.Breakfast was spectacular. We were served on our porch and ate sitting in the adirondack chairs. We were given a menu the night before to select what we wanted for breakfast. We had hot, cooked to order eggs/omelettes, potatoes, toast and coffee. ALL EXCELLENT and HOT.It's a long drive for me to return, but it's very tempting since I know what would be waiting for me.We didn't eat in the restaurant above the Inn, but it seemed to be popular. There was no noise from the restaurant/bar in our room either, which was very nice.
