Staying at Laurie’s was unique, generally for the wrong reasons. The room itself looked like it had been refurbished recently to a very average standard. By contrast, the hotel had gone to some length to provide monogrammed towels and toiletries. There was a microwave, fridge, which were handy and the bed linens and new TV were nice; yet the telephone was in a drawer and unplugged. The breakfast was average too. The home-made muffins were tasty. However, there was no functioning Internet in the room. When we asked the disinterested staff member at the front desk about resetting it, they said our room wasn’t a “deluxe” room which meant WiFi wasn’t included, even though the website said it was and we were given the login details at check-in. This same staff member claimed to be the manager and they got huffy when we asked whether we could instead use the WiFi in the office. They insisted that wasn’t possible because we hadn’t got a room in the same building. The lad who checked us in was chewing gum and kept popping the gum as we filled out the paper work, where I needed to initial my understanding that I would be charged if I stole any towels. We got the impression of disempowered staff. Their unwillingness to help was in stark relief to the friendliness of every other service professional we met in Cape Breton. Be aware that many of the photographs posted on Trip Advisor and their website are clearly outdated.

Felt like the cost of this motel was a bit high, but all the lodging in Cheticamp near the Cape Breton Highlands Nat Park was expensive. Our upstairs room was large and clean and the WIFI was acceptable. Beds were comfortable. The included breakfast buffet was similar to what one would expect from a mid-priced, US motel chain, but left something to be desired of our European tastes. The coffee was terrible.

After several comparisons.
Too expensive for this kind of place. (222.87$)
Try something else
very old building with little care

The breakfast offered is a fairly extensive buffet. Scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, bacon, ham, bacon parties, toast, juice and coffee.

Nothing else to say about this place.

This was the fifth stop on our road trip of the maritimes. Based on some of the reviews we were a bit worried, but we were very happy with the room once we got there! We were in the harbour view building, there’s two levels and no elevator. The rooms were very clean and spacious, the biggest room we had on our trip! The beds were comfortable, the shower had plenty of hot water and good water pressure. There was a mini fridge and coffee maker and assigned parking right outside our room. There was a great buffet breakfast, scrambled eggs, French toast, pancakes, sausages, oatmeal, yogurt, cereals, pastries, hard boiled eggs, apples, juices, coffee and tea. There was a coin operated laundry room and a sitting area with a microwave. The location to the Cabot trail was great, we were a 20 minute drive from the skyline trail. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would have no problem recommending to anyone staying in Cheticamp!

I have stayed at Laurie's many times through the years. It was always good value. The rooms are kept clean, but are a bit crowded. When I was in # 11 in 2018 and 2019, the door lock was difficult. It still is! The hair dryer was broken then and still is. There are no hand grips for the tub. This is a safety issue. Like many places in NS in recent years, this motel is hanging on until tourism is back to pre pandemic numbers. The big plus at Laurie's is the breakfast buffet! It is outstanding. Sheila's and the cook do a great job keeping food hot and counters clean. I love the porridge and scrambled eggs and French toast. Nice tables and lots of healthy options! I hope I will be back!

I stayed here for 2 nights in June in a unit on the main road. While the location is good, the property is very rundown on the outside and not much better on the inside. Room was grungy: old stained upholstered chairs, old thin velvet curtains, and a dirty floor. The beds were comfortable, however the light pouring in all night through the beveled glass window of the door (there was no window covering) was not conducive to sleep. There was no housekeeping nor clean towels provided for the second night's stay (they blamed it on Covid). I would not recommend this property.

Just a gross place. Smell of cigarettes everywhere, a musty gross lobby, unhelpful people behind the desk, and not even inexpensive. You hear right through the walls. The kids next door were cute and all, but their chatter at 6 am was normal but not welcome when the walls are so thing. I mean, maybe have some pride in what you're doing and spruce the place up a little. Sleep on the sidewalk, you'll be more comfortable.

Made my reservation 2 months in advance for one night at this Inn. The reason being, is that me and two of my sisters were taking our elderly mother around the Cabot Trail for what is likely her last mini vacation. I asked for two rooms on the main level and next to each other as mom cannot do stairs at all (I have my request in writing.) Fast forward to October and we arrive around suppertime to check in. I approached the lady at the front desk and began the check in process. Sometime during the conversation I realized that she had put us on the top floor of the Inn. I told her that that wasn't what I had booked and that my mother couldn't climb the stairs. So she found one room for us on the main floor. When I asked her why we couldn't have two rooms together like I had reserved, her response was "well I can't put people out of their rooms." First of all, I didn't ask you to do that. I simply wanted what I had reserved!!!! I work front desk at an Inn and her overall attitude was poor to say the least. So my mother got a ground floor room and my sisters were upstairs. So we go to our room on the ground floor and open the door and there's a portable a/c unit, dismantled, on the floor in front of the window. Tried to put it in the window as I like it cool while I sleep, no can do. It doesn't fit properly in the window and why would I want to leave the window unlocked all night????? And don't get me started on the dead mosquitoes all over the windowsill. Anyhow, we went out to supper and came back and all of us sat in the main floor room for a while and chatted and made plans for the next day. When two of my sisters left to go upstairs to their room, (they had to go up the side stairs of the building) all the lights around the outside of the building were off! All I can say is why?????? What if someone had to go outside and fell? Are you looking to get sued? Overall there are other places to stay in Cheticamp where I'm sure guests are treated a little better and get the rooms they reserve. Once was enough at this place, for me.

Overall not a bad place to stay, but nothing special either. The main lobby was closed after 6:00 pm which meant you had to unlock exterior doors to get in and out. We were given a metal key to unlock our room door, but it also unlocked the exterior doors so I wonder if it would also unlock other rooms.

Breakfast was included, but the quality was not great even for a hotel.

Terrible hotel should be condemned. Rooms are very outdated (velvet covering on chairs) rust everywhere on sink and bathtub,. Be prepared to climb 25 steep steps if your on second level. We ended up unpacking clothes in middle of parking lot for night versus bringing bags up such dangerous steps. Balcony banister is loose and floor of second level porch floor is rotting.

Yes. There is a laundry room where you can wash clothes. You may have to pay a small amount. I believe you also can buy laundry soap at the front desk.
