Firstly, the location is just outside of town, down quite a long unpaved road, but what awaits you is the most idyllic location and if you're lucky, an amazing sunrise over the ocean. Secondly, the property is more of a home rather than a business and you are welcomed to that home. And thirdly and most importantly, the host, Renate, is the best host you could wish for. She was so accommodating and helpful wanting to make our stay amazing. A big thank you to her.
Our stay started well and turned bad. I choose this B&B because of the two glowing reviews on TripAdvisor. My husband and I were celebrating a wedding anniversary with a trip to see Louisberg and other sights in beautiful Cape Breton. It is not a cottage you stay in but a room in the house. That was fine, I figured that out before we left. The hostess/owner kindly emailed to ask if we had food allergies, etc. I emailed back that my husband has none but since I am eating a vegan diet, fruit would be fine for breakfast and I would bring anything else i needed. The house was very clean and comfortable. We had tea and chatted our first night. The next morning at breakfast, the hostess had made two meals of eggs, etc. I politely declined and enjoyed the fruit and also trail bars I made and brought myself. The hostess insisted I never sent her my email, then quoted part of it; my "bringing my own food"; which she thought I was just trying to be nice. She seemed quite testy about it but we brushed that off. My husband added that I was also "gluten free" I am not, and explained again that " no, just eating plant stuff" ... For lunch that day I had packed a picnic lunch. The hostess offered me a grapefruit cut in half and offered the loan of a spoon. When we had lunch, I could not find the spoon. Returning that night, tired and in need of the washroom. I went upstairs. She then came up and asked for her spoon. I said I lost it, but then quickly said, " it must be in the car and I will search again in the morning" The hostess replied, " What! How could this happen? Where is it? That is one of a set. This is unacceptable to me! I am not accepting this!" Then she threw her hands up and walked off.To say this was unsettling is an understatement. I put my boots and coat back on and went to the car, tore it apart and found the spoon had slipped into the lining of the cooler bag. Very angry, I know my voice was shaking; I gave her the spoon back, telling her not to trouble about breakfast as we would be leaving first thing in the am. Hostess told me she was just upset and disappointed because she treated me like family and I did not tell her about the spoon right away. Ummm.. that was because I was not in the house more than 10 min. when she came looking for it. Her behavior was so unsettling I barely slept. First thing in the am, we were packing the car and she said " It is a new day, can we have a fresh start?" The table was set for breakfast and she asked if I would at least have some coffee. I declined. I said I was sorry that I got my temper up too; but that how she spoke to me about the lost spoon, made me feel " I am not comfortable being here" I told her she has a lovely place and I hope she keeps enjoying it. But I will tell you, we will not ever go back. As for treating me like family? I am not family, I was a paying customer. To make such a fuss over a spoon just seems bizarre.…
I dragged my 2 eleven year olds and 1 nine year olds to Cape Breton and we had experienced it all. Well so I thought. The Inn Keeper at Wolvespack Cottage B&B was so accommodating and kind to our family and she really gave us the Maritime treatment. The location of the Cottage is amazing. It is off the beaten path, in a private, quiet, pristine cove. It is close to all the Louisbourg activities which allowed us to enjoy the sites and food. We'd come back in a heart beat.
My husband and I stayed at this B&B on our honeymoon. The owner was fantastic, she really made our stay at her B&B memorable. She was an amazing cook and very accommodating. All rooms were very clean (we had our choice of room as it was only us staying there), spacious and inviting. The bathroom we used was also spotless. What was really great about this place was the location. It is a beautiful house just outside Louisbourg right on the ocean, the view from our room was spectacular! Not to mention is was a very private and quite location. If I was traveling to Nova Scotia again I would make an effort to go back to Louisbourg and stay at the Wolvespack! It was truly a great experience!
