Our room was on the back side of the building. I would not stay again unless a room on the front side was available. The windows are much larger and the views are very nice from he front. There are only small windows and limited views on the back side of the building.
Our one night's stay at this beautiful B&B occurred on October 18th, 2020. We were seeking a much-needed break from all the current stressors, and we'd chosen beautiful Cape Breton because of its beautiful scenery, particularly in the fall. We were thrilled to find it, as due to COVID, very few places were open! As a bonus, it's located in a very scenic area and not far from the world famous Cabot Trail. Our room was very large and it and the adjoining bathroom were very clean and well stocked with everything one might require. In the evening we strolled around the quiet, picturesque little town and then enjoyed a sound sleep in a quiet atmosphere. In the morning, our hosts greeted us with a delicious, hot breakfast. Alain even supplied us with his special homemade bread! This was extra special because a few of the other B&Bs we were able to locate were only offering "continental breakfasts", again - due to that lovely COVID virus :( Even more surprising - Alain treated us to a historical slide show about the local area, which we found very enjoyable. He also entertained us by playing some toe-tapping tunes on his fiddle! We've stayed at several excellent B&Bs, but due to the extra "little touches", our experience here was made extra special and memorable! Following our departure, we were to learn just how wonderful our "Hosts With The Most" truly were. We had driven to a nearby wharf to watch the tuna fleet returning with the catches from the morning excursion. Unfortunately, as we tried to leave, our car refused to start and a blinking light on the dash advised us to "Go to the Nearest Dealer"! Well, this happened to be in Sydney, approximately a two hour drive away! We did manage to get a tow truck to our location. HOWEVER, the driver refused to take any passengers, due to (you guessed it, COVID!!) The only folks we knew in town were our previous nights' hosts, Alain and Denise, so we contacted them for advice. They informed us that they had planned to travel to Sydney the following day, but for us, they would change it to that very day and would happily give us a ride! God bless them as we do not know what we would have done as there really were no other options for getting to Sydney. Not only did they provide us with transportation - they also packed us a lunch for the trip! Now, if that is not going "above and beyond" - I do not know what is! What wonderful people - what an awesome experience. I would recommend staying at this terrific B&B to anyone!!!…
I cannot add much new to previous posts. Alain and Denise have a well designed B&B which is very comfortable and well appointed. We especially liked the coffee maker in each room with the small fridge in the hall as we like our coffee first thing in the morning. This is centrally located in small Port Hood. Denise's breakfast (with bread baked by Alain) was suberb: juice, fruit, cereal, eggs frittata, toast, wonderful jams, and excellent coffee. Alain gave an interesting slide show about the local area, its history and attractions. They he played us a couple tunes on the fiddle. I hope we can stay longer next time.
We had the pleasure of staying at “The Fiddle and The Sea” for a few days last week. The rooms are spotless, air conditioned and each room is equipped with its own bathroom and shower. But the best part is the hospitality of the hosts Alain and Denise. Not only do you get a wonderful home cooked breakfast with in-house baked bread but you may also be entertained by a virtuoso fiddle performance by Alain. And there is no need to go to the local Tourist Information Center as the hosts are well versed in local history and Island attractions. If you are within 100km of Port Hood and looking for a place to stay, go to “The Fiddle and the Sea” you won't regret it.
Such an amazing experience, Beautiful spacious clean rooms, delicious full home made hot breakfast with bonus of homemade bread, jams and even granola. Our very gracious hosts Alain and Denise also suggest local activities to try, provide interesting area historical information, and Alain shares his talent with a celtic tune on the fiddle....you're sure to have a memorable Cpe Breton welcome experience!
