The fish and chips is the very best that we have had. Great service and supper clean bathrooms.
The interior of the restaurant is decorated with old mining and logging artifacts from the area, well worth stopping in and also great food. Recommend the homemade fish and chips with coleslaw.

From the time my cousin and I got there we were taken care of. Room was warm so they brought us a fan then a few days later the hydro went out and they brought a generator into our room so we could plug in the fan, they even gave us a can of pop each and a turkey sandwich. Food was excellent and the room was very clean The owners were so nice and I would recommend this motel to anyone. Bill and Jill are very nice people.

My husband and I recently took a nostalgic tour of the North, up to Rouyn-Noranda to see my home town and stay at our ancient family "camp." Rained out one day, we decided to head home through my birthplace, Kirkland Lake. When we saw The Gold Country Motel, we decided to stop for a bite to eat, having heard good things about their fish and chips. Well, little did we know, we were in for THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS of our lives. Really, we were astounded. We weren't the only ones who had heard the rave reviews, either. Once we had placed our order, another large group arrived for the same meal. We waited expectantly in the cozy dining room, taking in the artifacts of a bygone age, arranged artfully on the walls around the room - farm implements, soda signs, and seashells. We were served ice-cold drinks from the fridge and a creamy and delicious homemade coleslaw as we waited for the main event. It didn't disappoint. The delicate cod in its crispy batter was succulent and tastier than any we'd had before and the homefries were the perfect accompaniment, with just the right crunch and flavour. For dessert, my daughter had a bowl of mint ice cream that we shared to mark the end of a fabulous northern meal. Having dined so well, we decided to stay the night and were housed in the stylishly rustic room three, with two incredibly comfortable double beds, a flat screen satallite tv, a mini-fridge stocked with bottled water, and a microwave. There was a new deck of cards on the table and a sparkling-white recently renovated bathroom with a window facing the woods. All in all, we had a lovely linger in the woods near Kirkland Lake at the memorable Gold Country Motel. The host were also friendly and helpful and made our stay especially nice.

I must say that this Motel was very clean and we liked the rustic room we were in. but the first night we were there we realized that there was no air conditioning which was ok as they left a big fan in the room. But then after leaving the fan on all night with the windows open, we found out that the traffic going by was really noisy especially when the big trucks would gear down for the Y in the highway. The second night it had cooled down so we shut the windows and had the fan on. Much better.. But during the night one of us realized that we were out of toilet paper, so we searched every cupboard we could but to no avail was there paper toilet around. So we went to our car to retrieve a box of Kleenex. And oops the box was nearly empty. We tried calling the office (4 in the morning) and let it ring a long time to which no one answered. I believe whoever cleans the rooms make sure you leave extra paper.
