Although we are grateful that we were able to rent one of the cottages during this pandemic and have some sort of holiday with immediate family, we have some concerns. The resort is dated and so are the cottages. We were supposed to be able to check in by 4:00 p.m. at 5:30 p.m. we are still waiting and being told extra cleaning was being done due to COVID. When you wear white socks on the floor that was to be "extra" cleaned and your socks are black within the hour, I am not sure if any cleaning was done to the floors. At a time of COVID I would think that bars of soap would be replaced with pump hand soap. We brought our own. No paper towels in the restaruant washroom at Rocky Crest no matter how many times we reminded them. There is no security at the community pool and one person was vaping while in the water! No one to wipe down the chairs or the equipment. We mostly were in the lake on our boat but the overall feeling of the time there including a round of golf is that Rocky Crest is understaffed for the surplus of business the pandemic must have created. Staff is mostly grouchy due to this and patience is running thin. Kindness goes a long way and if there is an opportunity to have more staff on it may help. It would have helped with cleaning our cottage and getting it on time, it woudl have helped to have nicer staff at the golf course, and it would have helped when trying to place take out orders at the restaurant.

Let me say first that this review is for the resort only, the golf course gets 10/10 and you should play there if that’s what you’re here for.

The resort is rusticly beautiful, with older cottages to house guests. It’s like “blocks” of 4-6 rooms with large, but dated, spacious rooms. Again, it’s a rustic feel. A cottage feel.

My wife and I went during the summer and it was probably 90% families with kids. This is great, as they had a ton of stuff for kids to do! But, for us, it was NOT a quiet getaway with nice food and cocktails - it’s a family resort, not a golf resort.

It should be a bit more clear that it’s aimed at families, especially at the price point, but that’s what these reviews are for!

Staff was great.
Food was average as they only have a bistro open and absolutely nothing really available after 9pm,

Thank you for your feedback. The summer definitely has a large number of families in addition to golfers while the spring and fall are mostly golfers. Our website pictures had less families this year based on physical distancing and may have sent the wrong message to you. With indoor dining now allowed we have opened all three restaurants for dining.

So hubby and I came to the resort to get away during COVID. We were only able to get a queen room with a tiny Kitchenette. They advertised contactless check in which after you downloaded the app it then sent you to the reception to show them your ID and get your key! Sigh! I have to say after taking to the front desk I was left feeling a little annoyed and not welcomed. We had two lovely meals at the patio and our server was awesome! And super friendly! What was disheartening was that even though I called 4 weeks prior to me stay I could not get a t time. I have posted pictures of our room, the room is not doubt outdated and for 300 plus a night not worth it.

We are proud of the cottage country feel in our rooms and the generous size on Lake Joseph. They definitely do not have a downtown Toronto feel. There is no doubt that access to golf was challenging with the demand this year and the amount of member play at our on-site private golf course.

We stayed over the May long weekend and just wanted to relax and sit by the water. We paid over $200 a night for the room and it was not like the pictures advertised at all. The room is “tired” to say the least and smells of dog. Everything here at this resort seems like it’s desperate need of a good cleaning. We ordered dinner from the lakeside restaurant and that was very good and the staff was very friendly. Check-in was advertised as “contactless” so we downloaded the app and did that. Upon check-in I still had to go in and sign 3 more papers and be exposed to a family that chose not to social distance. They still have quite a bit of work to do here before we will spend our travel dollars at this location again.

Rocky Crest

2 night stay in September with my wife and 3 children for a family wedding. $500/night 2 bedroom suite was the worst value I’ve ever experienced for a ‘luxury’ hotel. I stay in hotels 1/4 of the year and what they charge for an outdated clinical looking suite is embarrassing. Rooms have clearly not been updated in 30 years or more. I’ve stayed in beautiful suites in downtown Toronto for less money. The bathroom was jailhouse quality with old brown tiles and bare white walls. At 6 in the morning, the guests in the room above had showers and it literally sounded like the running water was in our room making sleeping in impossible. Old radiant electric heaters made for very dry and stuffy air in the rooms. The electrical outlets in rooms were so old and worn out that our charger plugs wouldn’t even stay in and kept falling out. One of the window mechanisms were broken and wouldn’t close properly. We had a dinner at Bayside Restaurant on the resort and we were o it one of three tables. One loud table made the entire restaurant so loud that we couldn’t even speak across our table without shouting. Terrible room acoustics. We regret not staying at the nearby JW Marriott Rosseau Muskoka where you at least get good value for the higher cost. The only plus I give Rocky Crest is that every staff member encountered was pleasant and helpful and the location on Lake Joseph is beautiful.

We appreciate the feedback, and apologize that your stay was not as positive as it could have been. We understand there is always room to improve - last winter we focused on all of the resort suites with each receiving fresh paint jobs in every room, 50" Samsung Smart T.Vs, all new artwork, lamps and bedside tables. We are always looking ahead to continue improving the guest experience here at Rocky Crest, and we appreciate your feedback to help us understand where there is opportunity.

Came for a night in the fall, dinner was lackluster, resort is tired ...
Party central and staff were ineffectual. Air handling conveniently sucked all the marijuana into our room for our kids to breathe.
Spend your money elsewhere! I would do -3 stars if possible.

My husband is a Clublink member so we got a deal staying mid week (from Sunday Sept 13th - 15th), I don’t think the club would be too impressed to have their name attached to this place.

The surroundings are beautiful for sure but the property is not kept up well (pool wasn’t even cleaned) and the suites are very outdated for the price you pay. There was even a dead bug looked it has been there for a while on the wall in the shower. We were told that there would be information for us at the front desk for spas around, there was nothing when we asked. Food and service at Windows restaurant was great the first night but the food and service at Bayside was ok at best and way too expensive.

My husband said he would golf there but we won’t ever go back to stay. Disappointing.

The location - on the shore of a quiet bay off Lake Joseph - is very attractive. The facilities for enjoying the water are great. The nearby golf course and associated clubhouse are eye catching. The food and views from the golf course restaurant were great. The wider grounds were extensive and by Armitshaw Lake very attractive.

But …..

The accommodation is dated, cramped and in need of serious renovation. We stayed in a 2 bedroom premium suite with a view over the lake. The ‘deck’ was probably no more than 30 sq ft, had (only 4) uncomfortable wrought iron chairs, and the view of the lake came only after overlooking the buildings in front.

To access our suite we had to walk up 2 flights of steep stairs. The dishwasher wouldn’t open, the kettle was the cheapest imaginable, and the hard furnishings were well passed their sell by date.

The dog in the next apartment continually barked, the revellers below us were noisy, the kids in the next suite played with a bouncing ball and the noise carried through thin walls.

Summary - not good value unless you come with lots of kids who make full time use of the water facilities. The accommodation needs some serious upgrading.

The grounds are beautiful , typical Muskoka . The rooms are old and not updated. The carpets are old, the bathroom are old. I would think this place is at best a three star. Secondly , we checked in and the desk messed up. One of the rooms had two guests walk into our room at 12:00 at night with access keys. The other room the front desk called us at 2:00 in the morning . And ask if someone was staying in the room. In the morning they failed to tell us they really messed up. The staff exude a feeling of "We don't care". Also the breakfast buffet was the worst. Take Holiday Inn Express "off a highway "and take it down two notches and you have Rockycreast breakfast which was $30 . Complete ripoff.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff at Rocky Crest for a much needed getaway. Our room was great, spacious and very clean. We spent a lot of time soaking up the sunshine on the docks overlooking beautiful Lake Joesph and canoeing. We enjoyed breakfast on the patio each morning and had an incredible dinner at Windows restaurant.
The protocols in place and the care each staff member took to ensure our health and safety was noticed and appreciated.
Great Job Rocky Crest! I look forward to a returning soon.
