Booked a condo for Canada Day for my family in March. Just received a call that all their condos will be under constructions and cannot be rented. So now my reservation is cancelled. Poor management and organization of this resort cost my family a vacation. Warning if you book at this resort don't expect them to honor the reservation.
We wanted a nearby getaway on the water. While we like to camp in tents, we wanted something easier and with more amenities. We have rented cottages and yurts but wanted a more social setting. Being a resort, in addition to the beach, water craft (like a cottage), they also have a large children's play structure and a multi-use court where you can play tennis or basketball. They also have indoor facilities that include a heated pool, hot tub, ping pong table, ... What makes the resort best for families with small children is shallow depth of the water off the beach. It was 2 feet deep out to the floating line. Kids and grand kids were not cramped together trying to stay in the shallow water. There were no issues letting the children splash in the water. (e.g. sudden drop off) The place is a bit run down - think cottage not house. I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, not a cottage. It was basic and functional We needed to bring our own bedding and towels (like yurts). We enjoyed sitting on the beach and meeting people. The staff was friendly and helpful.…
I spent a weekend here with my family of 5. We initially wanted to book one of the new modern beautiful looking cottages that are owned privately but located on the resort. When I called the resort, I asked if the cottages were close to the beach. I was told it may be a walk and that if I wanted, I could book one of the condos that was owned by the resort (Great blue resort) which were located steps away from the beach. I asked if they could send photos of the condo and of course was sent only 4 of the best looking photos. We were so excited but when we arrived we were extremely disappointed. We were given condo 2B. We appreciated the rustic (more like dated) look but this was so dirty and dark. Bugs and food on the floor, ants all over the counters, fans covered in an inch of dust, dead bugs on the window sills, an inch of dust on all the blinds, lamps were broken and one was broken in half and dangling. etc etc. We requested to be moved to another condo if a better one was available. We were given 1B which was about the same level of dirtiness as 2B except there was more sunlight. We had to move all are stuff from the other condo and it was a very hot day. The staff member at the front helped us out and mopped the condo for us when we left to the pool because she felt so bad about the food and dirt all over the floor. Honestly these condos just need a little TLC and very cosmetic fixes and they would be great! Maybe an extra hour of cleaning per condo, change the lamps, etc. This stay was not cheap and honestly I was ready to lose the money and leave on Saturday night because I was dreading another sleep in the condo. Besides the stay, everything was wonderful! The staff, the lake, the beach, the pool. I would recommend this place but I would definitely stay at one of the cottages next time! You could not pay us to stay in the condo again!…
I booked a last minute getaway for my kids, mom and I to Mcreary's beach resort and I am so glad I did. I was hesitant at first because of my last year's experience with the Great Blue Resort (We went to Cherry Beach resort in Sandbanks and were so disappointed), but after spending Canada day long weekend at McReary's I can say that they made up for it! Starting with the staff, they were all so nice and friendly. They were always ready to answer questions and provide us with what we needed with a huge friendly smile. My kids wanted to play at the arcade one night, after hours of operation, while mom and I were enjoying a beer over live music so Gwynn went out of her way to turn all the games back on for them! Accommodation is not 5* but very acceptable. We rented beach flat 3B which was very spacious (3 bedrooms and 2 full baths) and comfortable. Whatever was missing (example mop), we were able to obtain from the office. We were told not to be shy and ask if we need anything because they have it all. Beach was just perfect for us. Mom and I got to enjoy the sun while the kids played in the park or in the water steps away from us. The water is shallow but this is perfect when you have kids. The indoor pool/hot tub were perfect for when we needed a break from the sun and heat. Last but not least, that weekend turned out to be even more fun because of all the activities they had going on for Canada Day celebration. We enjoyed live music and beautiful impressive fireworks on the Saturday and a parade on the Sunday! This resort is perfect if you have kids and looking for some downtime to relax! We have already booked to go back for 3 nights in July and may be doing another 3 nights in August!…
When the resort wants your business, everything is fine. Once you paid your money, they changed their attitudes. Do not recommend anybody to do business with such a deceitful organization. My experience has been absolutely terrible. Please stay away.
We wrote to explain all the problems and simply requested a reply with explanation. No reply so left us no choice but to warn others. This is not somewhere you want to stay. From mouse droppings to visible lack of maintenance literally everywhere this place needs a major makeover.
Harassed all the time about the dogs, they are a lab and boxer and the locals hate dogs so staying there was a challenge and very stressful. Even though the staff seems nice to your face, they are actually only there to support a few of their friends. I will never stay or recommend this place to anyone, there are cheaper and better places in the Ottawa area
We visited on a Saturday and despite short notice we were to be accommodated in one of their condos for two nights, Monday and Tuesday. The indoor pool was down for maintenance upon checking in. Well we opened the door to the condo and we realized that there was no way we could stay in that 'rustic' frankly, very depressing place. We are not fussy folks. This was beyond rustic. At $200 a night plus an extra $50 for an early check-in. a Motel 6 would have been paradise, A $300 security deposit was also charged to my credit card. Although we never stayed the 'pending charge" is still sitting in my card six days later. My money was refunded without hesitation, I commend the management for that. I am familiar with McCreary's as we had a trailer there in the mid nineties. it's just one of those things that didn't work out. We should have been shown a unit when we originally booked, but they were all occupied. It's a beautiful setting and has good facilities.…
I just rented a cabin for a week with friends and their kids. Wow. Beach and property are amazingly well kept. The play structure , pool, games room are extremely new and better than some of the parks near me. The cottage , we stayed in was a four bed room, is very clean and spacious. Three kids and three adults and we had tons of room. Single/young adults should not go here as it is a very family oriented area with cabins very close to each other. Noise would carry easily and I could see you getting booted out as a likely outcome. Oh, and the staff, amazingly helpful, especially the folks at checkin, they did a GREAT job hiring. While my review deals with renting, which is to say 100% we will be back, kids said this was best vacation ever, I did have one general concern: they seem to shoehorn the cabins in ridiculously close to each other. Dont get me wrong, they are BEAUTIFUL cottages but they are less than 10 feet apart. This will likely affect people who are buying cottages as opposed to renting, but Im hoping they dont destroy the wonderful atmosphere they have created.…
The staff is very friendly, the housing units are new, very small boat launch which makes it hard to launch, nice gameroom and snack area. The drawbacks in my opinion are that housing is new as it takes away from the cottage feel of outdoor living and they have a lot of rules taking some fun out of camping. I enjoyed the visit and it's good for some people but I personally prefer more rustic environment that's more relaxed in future.
