We enjoyed it overall but the small room and mediocre dinner was not worth what we paid. Considering entree prices are worthy of pretty high end downtown Toronto restaurants, I didn't expect to get a bottle of wine served with two smelly glasses which we had to exchange, and the steak to be incorrectly cooked. They did replace it with no hassle. If the overall cost was 1/3 less, I'd consider it a decent value. So despite the charm of this old place; we probably won't see it again for some time.

Just returned from a very disappointing 2-night stay in Pinewood West half-cottage. While the location is great, grounds beautiful, they need more care, attention and staff to keep it to previous standards. For the last 6 years we've visited each year, always stayed at the Maplewood building, this time we scored a last minute booking on a half cottage. Pros: - balcony was great to enjoy the lakeviews and relax - was able to eat with our dog on the grassy area - food was delicious, though overpriced - staff was always very helpful and courteous Cons: - no staff assigned to outdoor areas, no sanitation of chairs or tidying up, no garbage pick up or cleaning of outdoor areas (Same empty wine glass was in the bench, empty cans and coffy cups thrown in the grounds for our entire 3-day stay, same used towels out for days) - missing garbage cans at docks (leading to piles of garbage) - cottage was very dated (except for somewhat updated bathroom) - chairs on balcony could use a good wash and fresh coat of paint, door handle areas need a good scrub, especially during covid did not expect to see greasy fingerprint marks on doors - only had 2 bikes available, one is very banged up, chain broke 5 min into our ride - booked breakfast special package for 2 nights, was told after 1st breakfast that the special only covered 1 day, not both, but I could purchase breakfast.. no thanks. Staff at front desk and at restaurant were very lovely and done their best. We really missed the quality of care we expected after our past visits. We'll be looking for new options for our next stay in Muskoka.

My husband and I stayed in the Hazel Wood Cottage which is a stand-alone cottage. While it is a bit dated, it had everything we needed, and the beds were comfortable, we also had a full bathroom. We paid $481.00 per night during the week and $735.00 for the Friday night. While we enjoyed our stay, I will not go back there as it is definitely not worth $2100.00 for 4 nights. We loved the grounds and did quite a bit of walking around the resort. We did the trail on two occasions, but the bugs were out in force. We cycled a few times and made use of the canoes. The beach area is very nice but very small. We enjoyed sitting by the fire at night but as the area is very small, only 4 people can sit there. There is a much bigger fire pit at the back of the resort but that was not being used. It would be much easier to social distance if the fire pit at the back of the resort was available for use. We did question that and we were told that they would need to have someone to supervise that area. We had dinner on all four nights on the patio. While the food was very good it was quite expensive. Check in a check out was smooth and quick. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Overall we had a good stay. I would however suggest that the management of the resort spend some money on general maintenance and upgrading some of the furniture and fittings in the cottage.

While this review title could describe me it also describes Sherwood Inn. We paid extra to have out own cottage but it was micro small and false advertising as it was actually a split unit with another group in the other side. Paper thin walls meant we got to listen to their party til 1:30am. Awesome. Food was good but expensive. We did go into town and found a couple of great restaurants. It did pour rain the entire weekend. No one's fault but the staff did ZERO to suggest things for us to do even after asking. We also had a significant leak in our bathroom to the point where they had to come put a pail in the bathroom and it dripped all night. Awesome. They did give us 10% off the 2nd night but it didn't come close to making up for the inconvenience. Over all this resort was supposed to be higher end but it joins the list of other tired old Ontario resorts that need scads of money thrown at them to make them modern.
