Port Hope is beautiful with a great main street. We went for a late lunch and really wasn't expecting much. This place has the look, feel and service of a 5 star restaurant in NYC. We had the special soup which was pea with feta, pistachio, and some other cheese. I really wasn't expecting to be blown away but this reminded me of when I had the beet soup at the Gramercy hotel in New York. Expecting an ok soup and I still remember it many years later. The Waddell brought me back. We shared the main grilled cheese sandwich...don't let that seem small town..it was delicious with tomatoes, and all the high end pieces. Just devoured it. Soooo good. Oh and the truffle fries? Yum. Who is this chef as he/she should be on the cover of chef weekly. An all around delicious lunch and memorable experience. Thank you Waddell. We will be back.…
We live in the area, but had just moved out of our house. We choose the Waddell and were not disappointed. The rooms are large and beautiful. The hotel has all of it's original charm and beauty - but with wonderful enhancements.. The fireplace was cozy. Sitting outside and listening to the water from the river rapids...was soothing. The staff even brought our dinner up to the room from the restaurant below.
Stopped in to this restaurant for an afternoon bite and a glass of wine. Beautiful location enhanced with 20 degree weather on Nov. 10th. Served by Christy who was so very nice! Food was excellent and fairly priced. Would recommend to anyone. Enjoy.
We made a reservation to this restaurant, when we went we wanted a patio seat but they didn't have one. So we made another one for 1 hour later, we get there and there are 3 people infront of usandthet wanted a patio seat too, so we got scared or worried that they would get the seat and we wouldn't so we went up and confirmed it then the 3 people infront of us got seated and before we got seated the manager started yelling at us for breaking covid protocol because we were too close to the people infront of us when we weren't then she told us that she didn't want to serve us. We were so angry that we had to wait extra time after driving for a long time to this restaurant. Although this restaurant has good food but it has bad service. Ps: The only reason we came back because it is my sons birthday and when this happened he was sad and dissappointed…
After a busy day moving my mother, we had hoped for a better rest then we got. Mysteriously, a framed picture falling off the wall in the middle of the night, dirty coffee cups, a non-functioning hair dryer and not even a piece of paper to be found except an envelope for tips to write out our concerns, The Waddell is rich in history and architecturally beautiful, but it is tired inside and there are things that need to be updated for it to compete with others who offer more amenities within the room. Our immediate concerns were looked after but after a promise of a reimbursement, it took two and a half weeks for the manager to sort that. Disappointing experience. Mary and Gary
