Beautiful Inn on the main St of Port Hope On. Walking distance to all shops, bakeries, restaurants , pubs,Capital Theatre , train station., outdoor bandshell and park, library, and finnancial institutions. Picturesque Ganaraska River rolls right by, where you can watch fisherman and herons alike fish lol .Such lovely helpful staff .I had a beautiful very large clean room, with old poster bed, along with mini fridge( where I kept snacks and water) coffee maker TV, and iron. . For anyone with mobility issues there is an elevator in this small Inn. Nice restaurant that includes an out door patio where you can view the aforementioned river.

Beautiful historic building on site dinner room with great food. Very good walking area 5 minutes from the Theatre house. The only complaint was, we arrived at 1440 hours in the afternoon, tried to check in 20 minutes early, and the hostess told us we couldn’t. That was very poor customer service

The Waddell is an historical landmark inn right on the river in downtown Port Hope. This has been our fourth stay and we enjoy it each time! It has a cozy, old world charm about it-quaintness. It is not renovated to the hilt or updated in any way and that is what we love about it! You can leave your room and be strolling by the Port “Hip” stores in seconds, enjoying a coffee, smelling hand crafted candles or visiting the unique book store. The Waddell is perfect for individuals, couples and small families who don’t want a whole lot of pomp and circumstance but just a comfortable bed, great views out the windows and close proximity to the lovely downtown and walk ways! We will be back!

Won a weeknight stay and dinner at a silent auction for the hospital. Loved it. It was a great break mid-week. Rooms are very spacious and have a lot of character. Dinner at Gustos was fantastic. All the staff was very helpful and friendly. Definitely going to book again in the summer when it's warmer and can enjoy the patio.

I booked a double queen room for one night (Aug 4-5) for 3 adults direct with hotel 3 weeks in advance. Breakfast is not included--clearly stated in the website. Free on-site parking (via Mill St S) but space is limited--can accommodate maybe 5 cars max and that applies to both hotel and restaurant guests. Hotel entrance is on the south side of the building, beside the restaurant patio, facing the parking area. There is no front desk and no signage to direct hotel guests either. I searched the ground floor and finally asked someone at the restaurant. Eureka! Hotel check-in is via Trattoria Gusto's hostess station. My husband was asked to sign on credit card transaction slip and we were given a set of keys--for front door and hotel room. Later, we asked for a printed copy of receipt for Ontario Staycation Tax Credit use and instead of making us wait the restaurant staff offered to slip it under our door. We were assigned Room 303 on the 3rd floor, just steps from the elevator. It is a bright and spacious corner room with 4 big windows and it overlooked the intersection of Walton St and Mill St S. Room has 2 queen beds, writing desk, 2 armchairs, mini-fridge, TV, microwave oven, coffee maker, en-suite bathroom and portable A/C. Wi-fi worked well. Our room has clearly seen better days: carpet was badly stained, lamp shades were damaged, toilet paper holder was coming off the wall, bath towels were frayed. Portable A/C managed to keep the room cool but just enough to beat the summer heat. Bathroom door has no lock. Watching TV was not fun--no channels list printout was provided and poor TV picture quality. It was specified during booking that 3 adults would be staying in the room but other than 3 bath towels, everything else (mugs, complimentary bottled water) was meant for only 2 room occupants. Woke up at past midnight all sweaty to find the portable A/C shut off. We could not figure out what was wrong until we discovered the power bar was turned off. This happened again at 6AM. We did not bother to turn on the A/C a second time. The Waddell has a great location, right by the Ganaraska River, a short walk to many places of interest in downtown Port Hope. I would not however call this hotel luxurious accommodations. It was pretty basic if you ask me. I agree with another Tripadvisor review--this is more of a fancy Italian restaurant with rooms upstairs rather than a hotel with a restaurant downstairs. When we left to explore the area early the next morning, we saw no one downstairs--restaurant was closed so no staff around. Hotel front door locked automatically. Checkout was by key drop box located at the ground floor near the elevator doors.

The Waddell is a small boutique hotel in quiet scenic Port Hope. It was originally a bank building. The rooms are clean and cosy but not small. We had a room overlooking the river that ran into Lake Ontario. I enjoyed watching the water flow by. Very relaxing. The staff are lovely, very welcoming and accommodating. If planning a trip to Port Hope I highly recommend staying here. And the restaurant is a must as well.

I returned to The Waddell in June of 2022, five years after my first visit with my late wife in April of 2017. It was on that occasion I proposed to her across the street after dinner, in the gazebo overlooking the river. I returned this time to remember that night, on my own, as I felt it was time. The staff was exceptional, the room was far superior to what I expected, having a view of both the street and the river, and was very well appointed. Parking is tight but I didn't have a problem getting a spot, and the hotel is close by everything you could possibly want to do while in Port Hope. The only little detail in the room I noted needed attention was a small section of peeling paint in the washroom, but other than that it was great. Fabulous stay and I will return again!

We stayed in a Terrace Room which had views of both the street and river with a nice balcony overlooking the river. (Unfortunately, the restaurant patio roof partially blocks the view from the 2nd floor). The tv options and limited, bathroom was a little dated but fully functional with lovely amenites and a very comfortable bed. No breakfast included but a little bakery/coffee across the way served just as well. Also, virtually no parking on site, so be prepared for a bit of a walk. Despite some of the negatives, it is a great location and a place to consider if looking for something a little different.

Laura, the manager, was excellent. She was so accommodating and helpful. The customer service from all the staff was beyond my expectations. The hotel is very quaint in a very walkable area of town. Our room was clean, minus some cobwebs around the windows. My family had a lovely time and would definitely stay here again. Highly recommended!
