I really enjoy the Carlyle BUT I was disappoint resently when I took my sister-in-law there. She has Celiac Disease and ordered a hamburger and sweet potatoe fries. It was delicious by the way but we were not pleased when the bill came. The gluten free bun was an extra $4.00 and the sweet potatoe fries an extra $4.00. which...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Hotel Carlyle & Restaurant. We were heavy hearted to hear you were disappointed with the price of our gluten free options. We appreciate that our patrons have a wide variety of specific dietary needs and have worked hard to find a gluten free bun that would offer the same...

We've been to Carlyle Inn twice now, staying in one of the rooms on the top floor. The room is large, clean and comfortable with a king size bed. The breakfast is perfect - I had home cooked scrambled eggs with sausage with toast, and fresh orange juice. We also celebrated my Dad's 92nd birthday in the "vault" room in...

My Fishing buddies and I have been coming to the Port Hope area for the opening of Trout season for four years now. Since day one we have stayed at the Hotel Carlyle and Restaurant. Under Dave Henderson's management it was great, now under new management Elise Herman has continued with great hospitality and accommodation. The rooms are large and...

We have stayed and eaten at the Carlyle many times (at least once a year); it never disappoints. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The food at the Bistro is first rate. Of course, the price is very good. Best of all, the staff are attentive and friendly.

Ambience, staff, food, drinks, décor, personal attention. New bar favourite, warm pita bread with mashed olives. Dinner in the "vault", a private (sort of) room for 2, separated from other diners by a beaded curtain. Casablanca theme throughout, including this huge palm leaf fan in the bar area. Mushroom tart is a must-try, steak frites done to perfection, and the...

The innkeeper was extremely warm. Room was large with faux wood fireplace. Restaurant on-site - food was excellent. A short stroll to the main street with lots to do. Walk to Trinity College if visiting.

Stayed here with my wife on a visit to a local customer. Found them with a 4 star rating on the internet the day we were driving to the meeting. Wasn't expecting too much. Very nicely surprised with our stay. For the time of year they were on low staff but we still had a great check in, great service...

I was there overnight. I had rooms 5 and 6 and found them very cozy and comfortable. Lots of books. TV was a bit small in Room 5. The hotel decor is country like, i had pine furniture in my room, colours tans and like. It is well kept and clean. To get to our rooms you climb one set...

We visit this dining room fairly often for very specific reasons. First it is quiet. There is background music, but it is subtle. You can still have a conversation even with a spouse who is beginning to be hearing challenged. Secondly - it really is charming. The lamp shades are priceless and the ceiling fans remind us of Morocco. thirdly...

We had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the room 2 on the second floor. The bed was comfortable but the pillows could use a new one or two in the room plus decorative pillows. We had the couples getaway package so dinner was a preset dinner. It was great choices as well. The waitress was superb friendly and attentive. It...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Carlyle & Restaurant is a boutique hotel, with 10 spacious rooms, a fully licensed restaurant, lounge and seasonal patio. We are a minutes walking distance to the Capitol Theatre, Antique shops, Lake Ontario beach and specialty stores. Come and enjoy our friendly atmosphere, a stroll along the Waterfront Trail, shopping and antiquing, golf, great local yearly events and much much more. Located in the heart of historic downtown Port Hope, Hotel Carlyle has a rich history and a story for everyone. Originally built in 1857 as a branch of The Bank of Upper Canada, the building was purchased in 1882 by Dr. Robert A. Corbett who then converted it into his home and medical practice. In 1921, the Lingards established the Port Hope City Dairy on the premises and though the property passed through several other owners, the dairy remained until the late 1970's. Then, David and Jeanne Henderson then purchased the property in 1986, and later opened it as The Carlyle Restaurant, which grew to include a 10-room inn and an outdoor patio. The Carlyle continues to evolve and today it is being renewed and refreshed under new ownership as Hotel Carlyle & Restaurant. Come see for yourself what it means to honour the past and continue the tradition at Hotel Carlyle in Port Hope. ... more   less
