We have stayed here at Port Hope Suites from Oct 19, 2019 until January 30, 2020.
Port Hope suites was recommended by a friend who was under similar circumstances. Our new condo, currently under construction has been delayed 4x and we needed a furnished apartment to live. This place was ideal. Fully furnished, comfortable and functional in a great location close to all Port Hope amenities. The owner, Ken, has been most accommodating. When I asked for an upgrade to the available TV channels, he attended to my request forthwith.
We would not hesitate in recommending Port Hope Suites for both short and long term stays.

Great well appointed furnish apartment. We were between houses and need somewhere to live. It was the perfect apartment with all the needed amenities. The bed was the most comfortable we have slept in. We actually wrote the make down so we can get one. The owners were very accommodating right down to the type of coffee maker we wanted. Two bathrooms was a big bonus. A very convenient location right on the river, lit paths and downtown restaurants. The perfect spot.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Port Hope Suites for three months while looking for a house to buy. We would recommend the suites for anyone looking for short term rentals in Port Hope. The location is excellent for walking and exploring the historic downtown area. Many amenities are within easy walking distance (restaurants, coffee shops, theatre etc.). Overlooking the Ganaraska River, you have a good view of the area. The manager Ken, is more than accommodating with any requests.
Would stay there again!

I ran for the CIBC Run For The Cure in memory of our dear friend, It was the most amazing experience of my life, I raised $700 and in return I recieved a certificate for a night at the Lantern Inn and breakfast for two. I called and they recommended I stay on a Saturday to get the breakfast, I said the coupon was only valid Sunday through Thursday, she said it would be no problem as breakfast was not served during the week. We arrived early and were greeted by a friendly gentleman
who took our certificate and showed us to our room, it was beautiful, dinner amazing, we spent the day enjoying the shops and had a great evening....until the next morning when we went for breakfast, I went to the lobby to get the paper, Good Morning I said to the lady behind the counter, she said "what room are you checking out of?" I said I'm just getting the paper and then having breakfast...again she asked what room? I said 201, she then threw my certificate on the counter and said your room is not free......I was shocked and explained that we gave the attendant it last night and there was no problem, she said well you can't read than can you, I was agin stunned by her anger, she snatched my breakfast coupon off the counter and said you are not having breakfast, we said we had dinner last night and she reponded with "did you pay for dinner"?, I asked where the man was from last night and she said he was to scared to come in because of the two of us "troublemakers"???? At this point I was at a lost for words and knew there was no way to get through to this women who believe it or not was Joan Rumgay the Inn's owner, we went to our room and packed and left. This lady ruined a great weekend escape for my sister and I and treated us like animals. I will now be writing a letter to Allyson Cardiff of Ontario's Finest Inns and Spas to ensure this will not be one of the Inns that is listed.

I have stayed at almost 20 different spas and inns in Ontario and this was by far the worse.

We wanted to see a special show at the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope and the Visitors Bureau told us about packages which include theatre tickets, overnight accommodation and dinner at an hotel. Fortunately we were directed to this inn. We could not be more pleased with our stay there. The owner and staff were extremely pleasant and the food in the restaurant was of the highest quality. Though other, perhaps less expensive, restaurants are available in the town, this inn provides exceptional quality dining. The chef is superb and her kitchen staff reflect her high standards for taste and presentation.. If you like to eat fish and chips and take your own beer in a cooler, there are other slightly-downscale establishments within walking distance of this delightful inn, where your travel dollar will certainly stretch a little further, but gems like this one should be treasured, valued and supported. May they stay in business for many years to come. We will certainly return with the greatest of pleasure.

We had sold our house in Port Hope, moving to B.C. we required accommodation for a week or more and our Real Estate Agent pointed us in the direction of the Port Hope Suites, where we stayed for 10 days, A great location, right "down town", on the banks of the Ganaraska River, overlooking the library and park, which was lovely at that time with Christmas Trees and Lights. The building itself was built in 1840, very historical, one of the first brick buildings in the towns prosperous era, it was the first customs house and later the post office. Very comfortable, tastefully furnished, a comfy 4 poster bed, 2 bathrooms, small self contained kitchen, stove/fridge/micro etc. which we really appreciated, not having to eat out all the time, clean and very affordable. It is a 2 or 3 storey building depending on how you count the floors, but no elevator, we were on the top floor so certainly got our exercise. Walking distance to shops, restaurants, coffee shops, grocery stores and the lovely Capital Theatre with their excellent shows. The owners Ken & Bonnie were great to deal with and we would certainly recommend the Suites to anyone.

My mother's family has a yearly reunion every August in the Stratford area. Since my Mom is in her 90s, we break up the trip by staying in Port Hope, which is almost at the half way point from Cornwall. We always stay at the Lantern Hill Inn, on the way to Stratford, and on the return trip home. The rooms are fabulous, the service is awesome, and the food is delectable. The staff is more than willing to do anything that might add to our comfort. At the end of the day, we sit on the balcony that overlooks a lively river, and drink in the peaceful atmosphere. We are so pleased with our experiences there, that we are hosting our turn of the family reunion at the Lantern Hill Inn next year. We are convinced that my mother's family will be thrilled with spending the weekend there. The elevator is an added bonus, especially since my uncles and aunts are in their 80s and 90s. The local antiques shops, the spectacular restaurants, the arts and crafts events and the historical attractions will provide us with plenty to do while visiting Port Hope. The Inn is perfect in every respect! Thanks again!!!

This review and all other reviews in the period 2006 to 2009 relates exclusively to the Lantern Inn, and not to the Port Hope Suites. The Lantern Inn changed ownership in about 2009 and now operates under a different name. The Suites continues to operate under this name, but as of 2013 under new ownership

We found this hotel by accident and it was brill, located next to the fish & chip shop (tasty), in Port Hope, the staff we,re really friendly and the rooms are beautiful and clean well worth staying at ,as its right in the town so ideal for exploring and some very good bars in the vicinity but not rowdy at all. Right on lake ontario with a beach area, our only complaint was we did,nt find it earlier in our trip as we would have enjoyed more time there

We were fortunate enough to stay at Port Hope Suites for 4 months between selling and buying our house. We would absolutely recommend this place without hesitation. It is in a lovely location in historical Port Hope right along the banks of the Ganaraska River. All of the downtown shops, restaurants and other services are within a short stroll. The apartment itself was well equipped and we found it to be bright and cheery with windows on 3 sides. We especially enjoyed the soothing sounds of the river and felt right at home the minute we set foot inside the door. Upon leaving the apartment, we felt a bit melancholy leaving such a perfectly suited place for our short term stay.
