We booked Port Hope suites as a base while in Canada visiting family, what a superb choice. The process of booking from UK was made easy with the gracious professionalism of K Garrett even a courtesy phone call. On arrival the standard of the suite for the cost was amazing we really felt we had great value. The suite was spacious very tidy and extremely well appointed and I give the title of the comfiest bed I have ever slept in to Port Hope Suites. The location is town central for varied restaurants, which there are many. shops and all transport links. Walking to the beech was also just a ten minuet stroll. To stay in such a historical building so well presented with the river view was such a delight . We plan to return to Canada and will stay again at Port Hope Suites…

We had sold our house in Port Hope, moving to B.C. we required accommodation for a week or more and our Real Estate Agent pointed us in the direction of the Port Hope Suites, where we stayed for 10 days, A great location, right "down town", on the banks of the Ganaraska River, overlooking the library and park, which was lovely at that time with Christmas Trees and Lights. The building itself was built in 1840, very historical, one of the first brick buildings in the towns prosperous era, it was the first customs house and later the post office. Very comfortable, tastefully furnished, a comfy 4 poster bed, 2 bathrooms, small self contained kitchen, stove/fridge/micro etc. which we really appreciated, not having to eat out all the time, clean and very affordable. It…

You know the old adage that if it sounds to good to be true, then it probably is, well this is one of those rare exceptions. This is my second time staying at Port Hope Suites (when life gets to stressful in the big city, I run away to Port Hope...and THIS is home). A gigantic, river front suite in a high quality restoration of an 1838 building (that used to be the town's post office), beautifully decorated and furnished...and with a large bedroom, two bathrooms, a-comes with-everything kitchen (imagine how much one saves in dining out for a whole week, when you can cook at home), and a beautifully spacious living room....It does not feel like hotel living, but living at home. A five minute walk from anywhere...so, you'd think a delightful/comfy 7 day/night stay would cost you…

I am working in Port Hope and living in the Kingston area. I have the good fortune of staying at the Port Hope Suites during the week. While it would be preferable to not have to be away from home, I can't think of a better place to be in Port Hope! Here at the Port Hope Suites you can walk to anywhere easily in the downtown core and the view of the mighty Ganaraska, City Hall and Public Library is just perfect. The one bedroom, 2 bathroom suite I am in is fully furnished and equipped. There is nothing I need to bring from home for an extended stay. The owners, Ken and Bonnie are truly wonderful to deal with. While it appears that wolf8 had a bad experience, s/he is talking about another time under different ownership. The building is from 1838 or so and has been completely…

This was my home away from home while working in the area. Northumberland County is a beautiful area and Port Hope a great centre for exploration. The 'Suites made and excellent base of operations, clean, comfortable, well appointed and very affordable. I would stay here again in a second should work bring me this way again.

My mother's family has a yearly reunion every August in the Stratford area. Since my Mom is in her 90s, we break up the trip by staying in Port Hope, which is almost at the half way point from Cornwall. We always stay at the Lantern Hill Inn, on the way to Stratford, and on the return trip home. The rooms are fabulous, the service is awesome, and the food is delectable. The staff is more than willing to do anything that might add to our comfort. At the end of the day, we sit on the balcony that overlooks a lively river, and drink in the peaceful atmosphere. We are so pleased with our experiences there, that we are hosting our turn of the family reunion at the Lantern Hill Inn next year. We are convinced that my mother's family will be thrilled with spending the weekend…

This review and all other reviews in the period 2006 to 2009 relates exclusively to the Lantern Inn, and not to the Port Hope Suites. The Lantern Inn changed ownership in about 2009 and now operates under a different name. The Suites continues to operate under this name, but as of 2013 under new ownership

I ran for the CIBC Run For The Cure in memory of our dear friend, It was the most amazing experience of my life, I raised $700 and in return I recieved a certificate for a night at the Lantern Inn and breakfast for two. I called and they recommended I stay on a Saturday to get the breakfast, I said the coupon was only valid Sunday through Thursday, she said it would be no problem as breakfast was not served during the week. We arrived early and were greeted by a friendly gentleman who took our certificate and showed us to our room, it was beautiful, dinner amazing, we spent the day enjoying the shops and had a great evening....until the next morning when we went for breakfast, I went to the lobby to get the paper, Good Morning I said to the lady behind the counter, she said…

We wanted to see a special show at the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope and the Visitors Bureau told us about packages which include theatre tickets, overnight accommodation and dinner at an hotel. Fortunately we were directed to this inn. We could not be more pleased with our stay there. The owner and staff were extremely pleasant and the food in the restaurant was of the highest quality. Though other, perhaps less expensive, restaurants are available in the town, this inn provides exceptional quality dining. The chef is superb and her kitchen staff reflect her high standards for taste and presentation.. If you like to eat fish and chips and take your own beer in a cooler, there are other slightly-downscale establishments within walking distance of this delightful inn, where your…

We found this hotel by accident and it was brill, located next to the fish & chip shop (tasty), in Port Hope, the staff we,re really friendly and the rooms are beautiful and clean well worth staying at ,as its right in the town so ideal for exploring and some very good bars in the vicinity but not rowdy at all. Right on lake ontario with a beach area, our only complaint was we did,nt find it earlier in our trip as we would have enjoyed more time there
