Stayed at The BuckHorn Motel In 2012 For few more days, for 4th time.Ameal & Cathy were great hosts once again with us two Seniors. We stayed there in April 2012,before summer time
We walked with Ameal and Cathy, through their new tree's maze, behind the motel and new camping trailer area Ameal has been clearing out.It was a great walk for us both, getting in some
much needed fresh air.The tree maze Ameal was built for his motel guests and children, for bit of some excitment and fun for all.
Check out the evening, seen numerous rabbits, running around in bk of motel,or in front of motel
in early mornings, even catch a few deers also in the bk of motel,.bk large green grass yard.
Great place to be sitting outside ones motel room, into late evening night time, holding your favorite cold spirit and or favorite spirit drink, this is best place to be at night, seeing late night sky filled-up with total STARS ,with big and small dippers, great for Sky-Star-Watchers to be at
night.Very few cars travelling by,hear and listen to the rare quietness of entire wilderness all around you as you are sitting there.
Ameal and Cathy, are great Hosts, they always exceeded our both expectations, stopping 4 times and staying at their BuckHorn Motel,in SouthBay Mouth. And for a most reasonalbe cost and price. We continued to touring the area of SouthBay Mouth during our 2-3 days stay.
In Fall time ,be safe while driving Deer can pop out in front of you any time, the deer walk all around in South Bay Mouth,Community, you can get some great camera photo's of deer.
Cathy makes awesome,home-baked and home-made muffins with hot-coffee java cup for morning time for her guests and visitors staying at the motel, before they leave.
We do recommend to all visitors and guests, summer or winter times, stop in and stay at BuckHorn Motel.Tell Ameal & Cathy ,that Marian & Gerry, suggested and recommended their Motel for you to staying at,you will not be disapointeded,by good Hosts.
We always had good time staying at motel, during Summer-Time and or in Fall-Time,We met many other great guests and vistors, staying at BuckHorn Motel during our stays there, who were
staying and travelling through and carrying onward with their trips.Or taking the Ferry at SouthBay Mouth,on Manitoulin Island.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night while touring the island. I really didn't expect much from a roadside motel, but Ameal and Cathy far exceeded my expectations. The room we had was small but VERY clean. I swear I couldn't find a single speck of dirt anywhere! Both of our hosts were beyond helpful and so friendly. Anything this hotel lacks in amenities, they certainly make up for in service. We will definitely be back!

Four of us were motorcycling the Georgian Bay loop and we booked into the Buckhorn Motel after reading the reviews and speaking with the owner on the phone. What a truly lovely couple, and the motel was clean, comfortable and very reasonable. Fresh coffee and homemade muffins were waiting for us in the morning, along with towels to wipe our bikes down before we headed off to catch the ferry to Tobermory. Don't overlook this gem of a motel when staying in South Baymouth, and take a minute to chat with your hosts.

Fresh & clean, neat & tidy. Very good at basics { This former cleaning lady {of motels} ALWAYS checks the Bathrooms first. Clean, updated, Towels & bathmats smelling of the Outdoors. View from the bathroom windowshowed 2 brown bunnies scampering around and the blankets onthe clothes line proved where the clean linen smells originated. At 6am our room, #1. next to the office area SMELLED==of blueberry muffins!! Kathy had baked "from scratch" at 5:30 am! The floors had been vacuumed/ mopped. Base boards were clean, No hidden "stuff" under the bed. Amenities such as shampoo, soap coffee pot with coffee & tea were supplied,The grounds were very attractive and well tended. Ameal is a congenial and will direct you to fishing spots and safely send adventurers to the BEST, "Roads less Traveled." We were directed to "Earl & Carols Restaurant where we had a very nice Mothers Day Meal, All in all a wonderful clean, serene place that shows not only pride of ownership, but a love & concern for all their visitor, And that is why so many are repeat customers. Just like coming home & being spoiled!! Would recommend this establishment to ANYONE!!!

We stayed at the Buckhorn Motel on Canada Day after a tour of Manitoulin on our Motorcycles. What a lovely little place! Although not fancy, our room was very reasonable and impecably clean. Our room had new laminate floors. The beds were comfortable and the pillows were plush! The line-dried linens and towels were fresh and inviting. Ameal and Cathy were kind and personable hosts and went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. We were offered towels to wipe down our bikes, wood for our kickstands, ice, and delightful homemade muffins with hot coffee in the morning. We will certainly return to Buckhorn in the future. Enjoy!

We stopped at the Buckhorn Motel on our way north after taking the ferry from Tobermory.
This is a 60s style mote, rustic, basic, very clean, with the friendliest owners I have ever met in my travels. If you want to have a retro motel experience, this is the place. Well worth the visit.

Buckhorn Motel is a modest place, nothing extravagant, but exactly what one can expect at Manitoulin Island. Rooms are decent size, extremely clean, with nice bathroom. Hosts Ameal and Cathy are very nice and friendly, coffee and muffins in the mornig are nice begging of the day. For the price we got it is extremely good value.

Like meeting strangers and having them invite you into their lives and home after the first hello. We were guests not by accident, after reading some positive reviews were not steered wrong. Firstly this is a motel not a 5 star hotel, places like this can be musty and not be in the most perfect of areas but the owners made our stay shine! Squeaky clean and very large rooms. The TV only had one channel but he had ton's of movies to rent FOR FREE, and complimentary coffee with muffins in the morning. Internet included here! Close enough to the ferry to catch an early morning departure. Thank you Cathy and Ameal!

We recently stayed at the Buck Horn Motel during a motorcycle road trip. We needed a place to stay the night as we were taking the ferry in the morning. In the past we had (unsuccessfully) tried to stay on the Tobermory side (they require 2 night minimum stays - ridiculous) so we decided to try the South Baymouth side and we were not disappointed.

Booking with Cathy was easy (I needed 3 rooms). We arrived to smiles and good laughter! Ameal heard us pull up and proceeded to stand behind the door with his foot in the way - my husband opened the door and thought that he'd hit our host in the head!! Ameal and Cathy gave us some suggestions for dinner and Ameal asked us if we would be interested in a camp fire later on (to which we said "YES"). We headed into town, grabbed diner, came back and enjoyed a few drinks and the quiet surroundings. Ameal started a fire, talked and overall was an excellent host. Some other guest joked that all that was missing was marshmallows and Ameal popped up later with some!

The room was clean and quiet. The bed was comfortable. We opened the windows and turned on the ceiling fan and the room cooled down beautifully. The motel was fully booked so I could hear a bit of the neighbours but no worse than some 5* resorts I've stayed at.

We woke up to sunshine, coffee and WARM muffins. We ate our breakfast outside while enjoying our surroundings again. Ameal and Cathy provided rags to wipe down our bikes (thank goodness as there was A LOT of dew!!).

We left refreshed to continue our journey.

I would stay again at this motel in a heart beat. It was a great stay for a great price.

"The room choices really depend on how many are in the room. I have been going to manitoulin island for over 30 years. When we had the little ones, we would prefer to book the end room and family would book the next end room. This just gave the kids the area beside and behind to run around and we could an eye on them. Now visiting without the kids, any of the rooms are nice; the only problem is other guests that park infront of your room and not their own. Manners people, there are others in the motel. This solo visit I had the 1st room and it was good for my needs."
