Detailed Reviews
The best thing about this stay is that is right there if you are catching the ferry next morning. The room was very clean and beds were comfortable however....the website should state that WiFi DOES NOT WORK IN THE ROOMS! There was no internet connection available and for some this could really be a problem. Also since nothing opens in this small quaint little village until 9:00 am then in room coffee should be made available to guests...I walked down to the Shell Gas Station which was open before 8:00 am and they had a Kureg machine and gladly made me a coffee. I was happy to pay the $2.00. Also the outlets do not seem to work in the bathroom. There is no hair dryer provided nor any shampoo so bring your own. Nice outdoor chairs to sit on at each room with a nice view of the water. A bit pricy too with these things lacking. There is an in room mini fridge however and microwave. Could hear snoring from the next room so bring a room fan to block noise or ear plugs.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights, checking in at 2PM. A welcoming receptionist took my payment while I filled out an auto form, then provided the key.
I backed up to the room to unload our bags. Room #2 was clean, carpeted, with a comfortable king, couch, and a large window view of the courtyard. The small bathroom had a full size walk in shower with good hot water with soap and nice towels. The medium sized TV had a satellite guide (Detroit/Seattle networks, CBC, CTV, SNE, Weather & many more channels). Slow and intermittent wifi, ample outlets, good lighting and overhead fan in lieu of AC.
We did not swim in the nice looking pool.
This motel’s location was perfect to take the morning ferry to Tobermory for the Blue Heron boat tour around the Bruce peninsula, then return by late afternoon ferry to this hotel for a quiet night’s sleep.

+1
We stayed here for 3 nights and in Room 20. This room is massive with a separated bedroom and sitting area. The bathroom was small and contained a very small shower ( no tub) and the sink is in the living area which is a little strange but the Pros of this room outnumber the Cons. The living area contained a mini fridge, microwave, sofa bed and large chair. The bedroom had lots of space and views out the window overlooked the ferry dock. The BEST part of all was the massive deck which overlooked the pool as well as the marina/ lighthouse. We loved sitting out here and watching the Chi-chimaun come and go. This is not the cheapest or most modern Motel in Manitoulin but we loved the retro vibe and have already talked about coming back next year. Be sure to visit the gift shop!

The Huron Motor Lodge has a great location right off the ferry. Easy to find and check in was quick. The room was spotless. A decent size fridge. Comfortable beds. The few guests that were there were spaced out so we had nobody on either side of us which was nice. Very quiet. Not a bad place if you're just stopping in to sleep. However, there are a few things that would prevent me from staying there again.
Wifi - While this trip advisor page claims the motel has free high speed wifi, that's not entirely true. They do, only in their office. I was told it doesn't reach as far as our room. Outside the office it was patchy at best. I see other reviews have mentioned this, so my bad for not researching it further.
Outlets - Three in the room, only two worked. Nothing in the bathroom, so good luck plugging in a hair dryer.
Coffee maker - Nothing in the room. Not listed on their page so my bad for not seeing that. You can buy coffee in town, but nothing opens until 9am. So if you're an early bird you're out of luck.
No added amenities (shampoo, etc) so make sure to bring everything. Room is very dark so you might want to bring a couple flashlights.
Again, not a bad place to stop for the night, but wouldn't recommend it if you're spending any time there other than to sleep.

When the locals tel you that you are staying in the time warp hotel, believe them.
The writing was on the wall when we checked in. The stench of must, dampness and stale air greeted us as soon as we stepped into the “gift shop”. I could barely stay long to view the outdated old lady wear and overpriced souvenirs.
We had the misfortune to stay in a small room which smelled even worse than the gift shop. The furniture screams 1958 and has barely had an upgrade since. Worn out upholstered chairs. The bed and bedding reminded me of staying at a Muskoka cottage in the 1960’s. The dresser drawers stink. Retro would be offended to have to take that description.
There is no coffee machine in the room. Apparently you are supposed to wait dutifully until the “gift shop” opens at 9:00 am to buy a coffee at $2.75, for a small coffee.
No a/c if you even wanted to entertain the thought of clearing out the mildew stench.
The ice machine is also badly in need of an upgrade. It would look lovely in a 60’s bar.
I understand the practicality of the old
adage “ if it isn’t broken, then don’t fix it” or in this case if it is old and crappy (but it still works) why replace it. But come on! You are obviously making a great living with all the tourists that come through South Baymouth. Put some money into your place. Show some pride. Maybe start with replacing the horrific peach coloured sink and bath tub.
If you dare to step into the gift shop be aware that the owner may say to you “ You won’t mind me finishing my vacuuming while you look around, will you?”. Yea, I minded. Don’t worry, I left and bought nothing. Never ever again. Not worth $140.00 for one night of misery. Cheap hollow core doors with wooden panelling still look cheap in 2022, 50 years later.

We stayed for 4 nights in room 20. It was perfect for our needs. Large room on the top floor with a huge deck overlooking the pool and the marina. Just lovely. The stairs to get to the room, which are many may be a problem for some.
The bed was nice and comfy and the room was very clean. The retro vibe was really cute. :))) Staff did not come in during our stay due to Covid but still offered clean towels and garbage removal every day.
As anywhere you can't be sure what type of guests you may have and we had the misfortune of some very rude, obnoxious people staying at the motel. The parents far worse than the children. The owners handled it with complete professionalism and class. Hats off to you.
They have a great little Cafe for snacks or a light breakfast/lunch. The ice coffee was a tasty treat.
The gift shop was great too. Very convenient.
We would definately return. We enjoyed our stay.

Located right as you get on/off the ferry, this motel provides the comfort every weary traveler needs (apart from a restaurant). Bed is excellent. Bathroom is clean and modern. Wifi works pretty well. Super quiet comfort at night.

+1
Our family of 5 plus a puppy stayed in cottage 19, right across from the pool for 2 nights. South Baymouth is such a great spot to visit with lots to do within a 45 minute radius! Tammy and Chris made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay perfect. The pool was a real hit for the kids: 14, 12 and 11. The gift shop also has a great selection of clothes and souvenirs. The cottage was spacious and clean and perfect for our family. If you’re an early bird, the sunrise at the dock is spectacular and is a 2 minute walk away.

The HML was in a great location right of the ferry, perfect if you need to walk there. The room was a decent size but of course dated but that was not any issues. We were a family of 3 and though the walls were a bit thin it was not a deal breaker as once nighttime hit it was quiet. The staff were kind and considerate adn you can't ask for much more than that.

Our family (4adults) stayed @ the Huron Motor Lodge on Monday August 01st, 2016 as we were catching the ferry the next day. This was convenient as the ferry is right across the road. We stayed in room # 14 (end unit) and when we arrived, the room was as expected. We stay in many hotels / motels in Ontario & understand that accommodations in small towns can be a little dated. What we won't compromise is cleanliness. We paid $160.46 (taxes included) for our one night & even made a purchase in the motel store. All was fine until we woke up in the morning to shower. The first thing I noticed was 15 - 20 ants crawling around on the top of the toilet tank. Upon exiting the washroom & turning on the lights we noticed more ants crawling all over the desk. There were also a few ants in one of the beds. We had left a glass on the night table with some left over drink and it was swimming & crawling with ants as well. What was really disappointing was when we went into the office to check-out & advised the lady behind the counter what we had just experienced. She was totally indifferent to our situation. All she said was "this is very rare" & "sorry". It was mentioned that they would see the glass floating with ants when they cleaned the room. She never stated that she would take any action to get rid of this ant infestation before renting out the room again. We certainly didn't believe her when she said this was the "first" she had heard of this problem. The impression left with us was one of not caring as they have limited competition & will be booked regardless of customer experience. Because of this, they have developed an attitude lacking a sense of fairness & respect when dealing with this type of issue. We did not ask for any form of compensation, but expected that it would've been offered. Even if they showed an interest to go back to the room with us to assess the situation would've been appreciated. When we mentioned that we would not be returning, all we got was "sorry you feel that way". Their attitude was worse than waking up to an ant infestation. Joe, Sandy, Nicole & Danielle - Midland, Ontario
