We had mixed feelings about the place. The staff were welcoming and kind, the grounds were well kept and the cottage was very clean. On the down side, we were in cottage #8, which had no air conditioning and our trip occurred during a hot and humid weather spell. This made for a miserable first impression to have a sweltering first night, despite fans going, windows open, and babes in diapers only. That particular cottage is also right by Cavendish road, which having never been here before we didn't realize was the main drag in town...so a bit noisy. There was also no tree barrier to break that sound and give more of a "cottage" feel, something I would encourage the owners to do. With two small children, we spent most of our four days at Cavendish beach, Sandspit and Shining Waters parks. These cottages were right in the middle of all of that action (plus plenty of Anne things, the super handy tourist mart and laundromat), so the location was good for that, but was hardly a quiet oasis with a view of quiet farms or the sea. You aren't getting that with most cottages in the area it seems (most just a collection of units on a sparse field...), but that was kind of our expectation. It was great to have a kitchen and BBQ and with the tourist mart across the street, meals were easy and more economical. If you want this central vacation spot in the heart of Cavendish, these cottages are fine, but get one further back on the lot (much quieter) and with AC! If you want more of a sea oasis, stay closer to Brackley beach and the bay area there. It's only 10 min from Cavendish by car, so still close, but the beaches are just as nice and the spot a bit more picturesque. Also, unrelated but strong recommendation for the New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. Best of the bunch on the Green Gables shore!

My family and I have stayed at these cottages for several years now and have never been disappointed. The most attractive part is their location.....you can walk to The Boardwalk, Sandspit, Shining Waters, Ripleys and The Market. I like the fact that I can run across the street to get what I need!

The cottages are clean for the most part (the floors are wood but I don't think they are finished so they never come clean) and well stocked with the necessities. The BBQ's are a bit old and rusty but do the trick. Each cottage has a picnic table to enjoy the lobster you can buy down the street.

The only thing I would wish for is a bit more room for the money but overall, we enjoy it. Cottages down the road are more expensive and A LOT SMALLER! Oh and parking can be a nightmare if you have a bigger vehicle like a minivan. You have to park in between the cottages and there is a fence that makes it crazy trying to back out of there.

Our stay at the Avonlea Cottages was very enjoyable. They are in an excellent location and are very clean and comfortable. The staff went out of their way to meet our needs and to make sure we had an enjoyable visit. I would recommend this facility as a great place to stay while visiting Princ Edward Island.

Top notch service! The place was exactly what I expected. Clean and stocked with everything you may need.
They picked up the garbage, bottles, cans and dirty towels just like stated. Clean towels and bedding provided as requested.
Very friendly and efficient staff. Would definitely stay again.

I get it that PEI cottages are rustic so I'm quite forgiving of all of the damages and aged bedding, furniture etc. But theres a reason this is the only place not filled up in PEI. We arrived early as we normally do and usually grab lunch while we wait for our cottage. The owner told us that the cottage was ready but we were too early so we couldn't have it. They told us to come back in an hour - I've been to hundreds of cottages and hotels and never experienced this. This is definitely the most unfriendly cottages in Cavendish, with signs everywhere threatening fines and kicking you out for infractions. One sign encouraged you to snitch on people to the owners if you saw them smoking. Another sign said "Keep bodily fluids in your body" - I will 100% never stay there again.

The best!! We just returned back from a week in Cavandish, PEI. We loved this cottage! Grounds are kept clean and impeccable! The cottage was a 2 bedroom and very clean and fully equipped for anything! The location could not be any better! It is centrally located from everything including restaurants and amusement parks as well as a grocery store with literally everything you need. We stayed in cabin 10 and the beds were comfy and thankfully, AC worked great! It was also great to have a swim in the pool and a quick dip in the hot tub.

This property does not honour its legally binding reservations and sends rude patronizing emails to you claiming they entered the wrong price and they refuse to honour a legally valid booking. Do not trust this operator, you will get a nasty surprise when you show up.

These cottages need more than a little TLC; they are a safety hazard. If you could look past the sofa with the giant iron mark branded into it and the light held up by tape in the bathroom or the fact that some of the lights were missing covers, or even the wall panels bulging out and a dirty pool you might think well it's just cosmetic. When you take your child to the pool and there are missing deck boards, (I'm not sure if that's even to code) nails sticking up with the pointed end through the wood not the nail head and deck chairs that fall apart due to the rust, it becomes hard to overlook. We would have taken care of all the dead bugs in the pool that were multiplying the longer we stayed but the pool equipment was locked away. Our last evening after supper we took the kids for a swim and found the pool was padlocked. We were told the heated pool was too cold. We have stayed in other cottages in P.E.I in this area and experienced wonderful kept cottages that were reasonably priced with fantastic service. Unfortunately due to my husband's sudden military posting we had to take what was available at the time and this place was it. Very overpriced for cottages in such a poor state. I guess that is why you pay in full when you check in before you see what you are paying for and not when you check out. Location was great but there are other cottages nearby and we will never stay here or recommend it to anyone.

I have been a loyal patron of Avonlea Cottages for 10 years. We stay every year and I'm sure we leave the cottage cleaner than when we checked it! We love the location as I can walk to the store if I need something. The kids can walk to Shining Waters or Sandspit which is a bit more relaxing for me.

In February I decided to make my reservation on line and noticed they were already quite full. The cabin I wanted was available for the 3 nights I had planned on staying but there was a new policy. MINIMUM 5 NIGHT STAY! What? Everything was booked before and after the dates I planned so it was impossible to book for 5 nights. It left 3 nights in between that were free it i was not allowed to have them.

So let me get this straight....you want to leave those 3 night vacant instead of making money because they don't follow your rules? Then there was the cancellation policy. You had to pay up front with a 3 week cancellation policy. That's a bit extreme. I realize they address their staffing needs based on reservations but there is no need for that length of time. I know from experience there is enough walk in traffic to fill any empty spaces.

So we have moved on to Green Gables Bungalow Court. Sorry Avonlea.

"We had the cottage #1. It was a bit more private (as opposed to the other cottages), but when outside (the fire pit is in front), we're facing the road that drives to Shining Waters... and there was quite a bit of traffic on those days. Not a deal breaker for us, but something to consider."
