We stayed here for one night. Our room had a view of the river. The hotel was quiet, which is what we wanted. We didn't have time to use it, but there is a hot tub. We had everything we needed here, and everything was in great shape. Would stay here again in a heartbeat!

We stayed overnight in Bonaventure on our trip. We quite liked this hotel. It has a view of the inlet. Our room was large, and free Wifi gave us excellent reception in the room. It has a balcony and we enjoyed a drinked outside. It's close to restaurants and gift shops. Very nice.

We stayed in 9 places during our Canada trip, and this was the worst place we stayed at. We paid with a credit card, but the bar, they said, only takes cash. There was nowhere else to get food at the time we arrived, and we did not have Canadian currency. Nowhere did it say that they only take cash. We stayed hungry until next morning.
The AC was stupidly (I am sorry, but there is no other way to describe) done - it is close to one bed, so if you have it on, the person sleeping on this bed risks getting sick the next morning from the super cold air. If you turn it off, it gets very stuffy. Everything was very outdated. Our room was downstairs and we could hear every step they took, including every time they flushed the toilet. The bed was comfortable but the pillow smelled bad, I just could not wait to leave that place.
The owner/manager, the Asian gentleman was not very nice.
We will NEVER stay here again.

Let's start with the good points. I am sure it is beautiful in summer and since I am travelling with kids, I am sure this would have been nice ( nice to walk around, playground at elementary school just around the corner). Restaurants, stores and convenient stores are close (not during the winter with the snow) but within walking distance during summer. The room was basic decoration wise and looked clean just ok. I didn't mind. They handed me towels when I checked in. Found it weird, but still was ok. My husband found out tv was not working well. He brought the cable to have it exchanged at the front office, which they did quickly, we were the only one in the motel. The REALLY BAD thing is that you can hear the neighboord just as if they were in your room. My husband could hear the 2 nd floor neighboor snooring! They could have done better since the hotel was empty, they have packed us in the same spot. Stay away, people go out and you hear the stairs, people talking....it's bad. Maybe during summer A.C takes over but I don' t know.

The Grand-Pré Motel is located in Bonaventure in the Gaspe region, at the mouth of the Bonaventure River on the Chaleurs Bay. The motel is on the shore of the Beaubassin harbor.

I made my reservation by calling directly at the hotel, for the price of 169$ per night (before taxes), in high season and during Covid. This rate is very high for this type of establishment. For a one night stay during a business trip, I booked a suite which, according to the staff at the reception desk, is the biggest room of the hotel.

The property
This motel is a property located by the water and far enough from the main highway not to be bother by the traffic sound. It has two main buildings, one with ground level and the main building with two floors. If your room is on the second floor, you will have a distant view of the sea. The rooms of the main building overlook the river shore. There is no elevator to access the second floor and the stairs are outside.

Some amenities are offered to the visitors such as: an outside terrace with a view on the river, a children play ground and a barbecue. There is also a bar, but it was closed during my stay (because of Covid?). There is no restaurant on site so breakfast is not included with the price of the room. There are some restaurants at a couple of minutes of walking distance.

Parking is free, and large enough to welcome large vehicles or with a trailer.

The room
My room is divided in two, a bedroom and a small living room. A French door divides the two sections of the room. The room are spacious and well furnished. There is no carpet but a fake wood plastic covering.

The room is clean, well finished but the furniture is oldish and used. The room is well equipped. In the living room section, there is a desk, but no power outlet available near to plug electronic devices, which is annoying for the traveller who needs to do a little work. A Keurig coffee machine is available with cups, but no tea. There is a large couch in the living room section, but it is not a sofa bed. The TV in this section of the room has HDMI and USB plugs. The cable service provides a good channel selection. There is also a small fridge, an ironing board with an iron, a safe and a microwave oven. In the bedroom section, there is an old bulk glass screen TV with a built in VHS player. I didn’t check if you could borrow tapes at the reception … Another desk is in the bedroom section. The mattress is soft, not comfortable and would need to be replaced.

The room has a balcony where two rocking chairs are placed. There is a good privacy and good divider between the neighbor’s balconies.

The air conditioning is mobile, on wheels, and its capacity is clearly insufficient for the size of this room. At my arrival, the room temperature was 29C. With the air conditioning at maximum speed, 4hours later, the temperature was 26C. There is a ceiling fan that helps room ventilation.

The bathroom
The bathroom has a large but old whirlpool. The shower is in the bath. The area around the sink is good. The sealant joints around the bath are stained. Because of the bath size, it is impossible to open the shower or bath faucets without stepping in the bath.

Unfortunately, the recycling bin in the bath room has not been emptied.

Services
There aren’t many services available on site, any gym and no pool. No breakfast is served on site (because of Covid?). There is a bar area near the reception, with an outside terrace, but it was closed (because of Covid?).

In wireless (Wi-Fi) internet access is free and excellent.

The devil is in the details:
- Sink faucets unstable
- Difficult access to bath faucets
- Stains on the desk chair
- Trash bin not emptied
- Damaged wall

Pros
- Peaceful
- Large parking

Cons
- No restaurant on site (Covid?)
- Bed not comfortable.

We booked almost a year in advance, but when we checked in we were given a room far away from the view of the marsh/pond behind the main building. This room 119 or 219(?) did have a sitting area and the rooms in the main building do not. Also, there is no elevator in the main building. The room was very run down. The dark furniture in the sitting area didn't look clean. The refrigerator had a damp old towel in the bottom shelf for leakage I assume. When the fridge ran it was VERY loud. We had to prop a heavy suitcase and two chairs against it to keep it from vibrating. The fan connected to the light in the bathroom was VERY loud and woke up the other guest when using the washroom at night. The beds were very comfortable I must say. That is the only thing good about this place or I would have given it a 'terrible' rating. The last straw was at check out....the cost was just over $200. (CAN) That was outrageous for a motel like that!!!

Stayed for 4 great nights. As expected the room set up was very "European" which means somewhat small, but very, very clean, well maintained, and comfortable.

We stayed busy while there (playing tourist and visiting family) so we did not get to sample the bar. The staff was friendly and spoke some English (important for us Rednecks who don't speak French). We left in the morning, came back every night and the room was spotless!

Had a hot tub, children playground, and picnic tables in the back. Great for morning coffee.

When we go back to this area, we will definitely stay again.

Having found the hotel we originally booked closed, we were forced to find another in the same area. Motel Grand Pre was open and welcoming. The room was large enough, clean and quiet. The Wi-Fi was free and there was a fridge and microwave. We only spent one night here but would recommend it.
