The Vertendre is a private & sustainable estate that rents and sells modern chalets / Shelters with contemporary design. It's 1000 acres of mature forest that invite you to rejuvenate yourself, by outdoor activities or the art of idleness. Located on the southwest side of Mount Orford, our Orfie cottages are eco-energetic, spacious and fully equipped. Our Shelters, 100% energy-independent lofts, offer a unique adventure by walking to get there and experimenting some kind of "glamping". Connect with the energy and beauty of nature!

Detailed Reviews
Spent two nights and loved our experience. I have camped in the past and am now looking for comfort with basic conveniences and the Zoobox had all that and more.
The Zoobox was perfectly clean with a comfortable king sized bed that pulls down with the ceiling. The drinkable water, flushable toilet and shower were so very appreciated. The star however ended up being the hammock chairs in the screened in veranda. The tranquility of having a morning coffee while being suspended and swaying in the air was very soothing.
We used the wheelbarrow to cart items from our car and the hills made for a little challenge - all the more to appreciate your little slice of paradise when you arrive.
My only complaint would be that the front of our Zoobox (85) faced the access road and so everyone could see you after your shower/changing. This could be easily fixed by adding an extra couple curtains around the outer ring of the shower area.

Had a great time on our short stay in our ZooBox. All the necessities were provided and appreciated that it wasn't a compost toilet. A couple of small repairs were needed, though nothing that affected our enjoyment of the space.
Water is drinkable and tasted fine. Would have appreciated a little more hot water, though it did make the end of the shower very invigorating.
It was wonderful waking up to a forest view and hearing the frogs calling. We had a great time hiking, and the trails were very well maintained.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in a zoobox. We were a little thrown off by the minimum stay of 2 nights and the latest check in at 5PM. Coming from Ottawa on a Friday required me to take the day off. Silly policy.
The zoobox: When we arrived at the zoobox we were greeted by a gentleman in an ATV who was going to get the diesel generator they used to charge up the zoobox batteries. So much for "Completely self-sufficient in energy" as quoted on the website. The place was also heated with propane (as well as wood from the wood stove)
The zoobox itself looks like a well intended design that was executed and then patched once the design flaws revealed themselves:
- The original electric bed lowering system was replaced with cables and counterweights.
- the sliding doors for the bathroom and kitchen area did not have handles and were difficult to maneuver.
- the solid steel edged furniture had...solid steel edges which were hard and kind of sharp
- the kitchen was fairly well stocked but was missing a bread knife of all things
-there was a TV monitor but nothing to play on the TV. A music playing device would have been better..
- the ramp to get up to the zoobox from the ground was slippery and steep
- there was only crummy hand soap in the bathroom (no shampoo etc for >200$ a night!) and Dawn Ultra dish soap (not even close to eco).
We did have a nice time (we left the kids with their aunt) ;) and had some nice meals but I have to say that for the price (478 CAD for 2 nights, taxes in) we expected it to be much more professionally presented. These folks are not in in the accommodation industry and don't seem to have a clue about it. They are in the business of selling property and it is plain to see.

I booked this place with a Groupon, although upon our arrival the woman happily informed us that a family member had called to offer to pay for an upgrade for us. I politely declined although we were made to feel cheap and embarrassed if we didn't upgrade for which the charge would nearly double what we had paid. One of the women at the front desk actually turned to the other and said "it's a gift, it's not her choice." After much back and forth (which included agressive begging on their part), we agreed to accept the upgrade, a decision I regretted throughout the stay. In the end, the total was about $200 per night - and this was a "deal".
Anything good? The house was very nice pretty and filled with natural light. Those were the pros, although I could stay home for that.
Quality of service and amenities? At every turn it became more and more apparent that they had gone for the cheapest option whenever they could. The furniture, the terrible bedding, the towels, the building materials. The place had a fire-place but none of their "wood" was included. You pay $15 for a small box of manufactured fake logs that are difficult to light and don't last long. An extra roll of toilet paper was on a shelf over a label stating that no other refills would be included. Upon check-in, I signed a form saying that I would empty all the garbages and bring them to the bins before leaving or else I would be charged an additional fee. A trail behind the house leads to a lake surrounded by tractors and dump-trucks in full operation. The sounds of heavy construction can be heard over the rushing water of the creek when you attempt to relax outdoors anywhere on the property - all day long. Beep beep beep. Wonderful.
Eco friendly? Although they claim to be eco-friendly they clearly don't know or care to inform themselves on what that should entail. Their chemical cleaning products, cheap ikea furniture, bleached toilet paper, garbage bags, torn up 'natural' outdoor areas and a million other in-your-face details show that the only Eco choices they make are those that reduce their costs. They want to charge the fee for an Eco resort but they aren't willing to sacrifice any small portion of their profits in order to deliver what they advertise.
And about safety? Behind the house was a poorly constructed bridge that we didn't dare cross 2 people at a time. If a child (or even a large adult) slipped they could easily tumble under the side rails. By the lake there was a waterfall with a handmade swing. We sat on it although it felt very insecure. Upon further inspection we saw that it did not seem to be attached to anything and could tumble down at any moment bringing the large boulders down with it. On the way back, a little foot bridge was boken on one side, yet another clear safety hazard - watch your step!
Overall, we had fun due to the fact that we were together. I regretted spending any money here and will never return.
This is my first trip advisor review - I created this account and took the time to write the review in an attempt to spare others the waste of vacation funds that will result from a visit to this terrible, oh so terrible destination.

Le Vertendre exists not solely for vacation rentals, but primarily as a land sales company looking to sell more homes once guests fall in love with the area. Surrounded by trees and with no other neighbours in sight, our Orfie 'eco-chiq' rental was outfitted with the very best from Ikea and had floor-to-ceiling windows allowing you to view the nature around you. During our three-day stay recently, however, we did encounter a few logistical issues. First, when we arrived, we were told check-in began at 4pm on their website. The office closed at 5pm, so when we arrived closer to 5:45pm, no one was there to give us our keys. A number for us to call was posted on the door, and about an hour later, we finally had a code to enter the property. Less than a warm welcome indeed. Second, although the home is built to accommodate 8, our party of 8 found that there were actually only 2 beds, one double and one queen. The third bedroom had a sofa bed that uncomfortably slept 2, and the last two folks were relegated to a sofa in the living room with no privacy to speak of. The kids with us were a bit distressed too that the flat screen TV had not a single station available - a simple antenna set up would have fixed that. Finally, with eight sticky sunscreened individuals, the one shower was in high demand. On the second day of our three day stay, however, we noticed that we began to have problems with water pressure. Three of our party were not able to take showers at all as there was no water upstairs. Two others opted to shower together. By day three, things were even more dire when after a full night's sleep, there was still no water upstairs to flush the toilet or wash hands, let alone take a shower. If these logistical issues were addressed, I think our stay would have been more appealing. The area is certainly nice and relaxing, but we'd stay somewhere else next time.

Wonderful place for peace and tranquility. Like we were completely alone in nature. Clean, comfortable and functional. Everything is conceived to the smallest detail.
We loved our stay, and we would be happy to go again.

We had bought a ticket from Groupon, during xmas time, and finally we used it this past week. All I have to see is positive things about this chalet, very clean, very quiet, the ppl at the reception were very welcoming. We had rented this chalet to go ski in Mont Orford, which was about 10 minutes away, all in all, a great experience, and would recommend this.

If you need to hide in nature but do not need to rough it, this is it. Le Vertendre is a good place to disconnect and evade. Embrace simple pleasures with cozy happiness in a Zoo "Hygge" Box. I shall return for a retreat in winter.

Raise your hands if you are a traveler who is interested in eco-tourism, self-sustainability, and green travel! This spectacular gem which is located on the forgotten side of Mont-Orford, in Eastman Quebec (about 1.5 hours from Montreal), was designed to stimulate any individual with its creative and passionate approach to sustaining a GREEN Quebec! Believe it or not, this Zoobox is 100% self-sufficient! A perfect getaway submerged in nature. The zooboxes are equipped with everything you need - a king sized bed suspended from the ceiling, outside shower & bathtub on wheels, fully equipped kitchen, solar panels, and gorgeous folding glass doors. The staff was super friendly, the zooboxes where very clean, and also well spaced out from each other to give you that privacy. We HIGHLY recommend these unique accommodations and we would definitely go back again.

Hi! Yes there is :)
Yes you need to bring your own food, there is cookware in order for you to cook! There are grocery stores near by if you want to pick up the food prior to entering the area. If you did want to leave to go eat at a restaurant it is possible, if we aren’t mistaken there is one close by as well, but you have to make the trip back to your car by foot and then drive out of the area. There is no path for cars to access the zoo boxes!
There is cellphone reception, it’s not the strongest at times but it gets you by! And we went in the summer so the zoo box was heated by solar panels, during the cold season there is a fire place inside! Hopefully that answered all of your questions !!
