The Cap aux Pierres hôtel is a good bang for your buck. Friendly staff, decent rates and beautiful site facing the St-Lawrence river. Motels are very clean and recently renovated. No maid service during the pandemic however but front office staff more than happy to help if needed. Great game room and exterior games for vacationing families. The ferry can be a bother but if you plan ahead, access to La Malbaie and Baie St-Paul is easy. Make sure your brakes are safe cause boy are there steep hills in these parts!!

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in the beginning of july. We had a room in the motel part next to the pool and with great view of the river. Everything was very clean and nice.

Breakfast was really expensive. We payed $73+tip for 4 persons, and the breakfast was not worth the price. We bought some bread, cheese and ham and had breakfast in our room.

We had some warm days and there were no aircon or fan in the room. That made it a bit hard to sleep. A fan in each room would have been nice.

A real "detox" from the big cities. Such a nice a calm place. Seemed that it is family owned and family runned. Breakfast very good, evening meals very good too. The rooms are cozy and most suitable related to the whole atmosphere. WiFi not the best one, but does not matter since you can really relax.

We were there for two days maybe too early in the season but hardly got discounted rates. Hotel was not available (told it was booked but actually it turned out it was actually closed for "fumigation". I was also told that they expected Clément weather which was hardly the case when we arrived. I did not appreciate being lied to when I made my reservation by phone). As a result, we were forced to stay in motel portion which I would not recommend. Like a motel 6, the rooms were clean but dated. They were relatively comfortable except bay windows open not only on the river but also on any other guest that must walks by your window. Not much point to have a view if you need to keep your curtains drawn.
While there were hardly any guests during our brief stay, paper thin walls made every footstep a noticeable annoyance. Amazingly and in spite of the very high price, no maid service was provided during our stay other than an offer to provide us with clean towels.
The only restaurant was nice for breakfast and dinner except it was closed the second day making it impossible to have either breakfast or dinner on our second day. There are not too many alternatives to eat in the area ( or even on the island for that matter) so you are somewhat captive of their facilities ...and if they are closed, it makes dieting easy!
While this was all brought to managements attention, only lame apologies and 'maybe nextime' excuses provided convinced me that we had been conned.
The only saving grace was Sylvie, who was at reception on our arrival. She provided a wealth of great and useful information on the island which is overflowing with very hospitable people. She obviously was enamoured with the island and was an excellent ambassador for it.
While the ferry is free to get on and off the island, brace yourself to pay taxes on your hotel bill by as much as 25% of you charges.
Unfortunately, I highly recommend to avoid this hotel because of its dishonestly.
The island should be visited but only until much later in the season when a few more places are opened. I would also recommend to the stay on the mainland and make the island only the day trip. The ferry runs on the hour from the mainland and 1/2 past from the island from 7:00 to 23:00.

I stayed there again for the season opening with the walk around the Island. The rooms are nice and clean. The table d’hôte at the dining room is excellent and the staff is always very kind. The menu includes local specialties.

Hello,

I stayed there with the family in Aug 2017 for one night. This hotel is actually on Ile-aux-Coudres, an island on the St-Lawrence River. Yes, believe it or not! So you have to take the ferry (no cost) from the North Shore to actually get onto the island. Rooms are vintage style and you do have a regular door key to open the door, so don't expect to compare it with a 3-star hotel in downtown big cities, so consider it like an escape :) . I particularly found that adorable. The setting is absolutely lovely and the island itself is a unique habitat. We drove around the island at night and loved it. I was used with a mini-fridge in the room and a micro-wave and this hotel did not have any (not in my room).
The restaurant downstairs was full that night, virtually impossible to find a place for supper so we had to improvise. We had breakfast early am the next day and it was 15 CAD per pers, children under 6 (I believe) free. We paid for breakfast because we did not have it with our reservation and had no provisions left, but it was worth it. (but expensive)
The breakfast is buffet style, a few good option to choose from, everything was clean and fresh. Service impeccable as well.
The hotel has a nice open space type of basement where you find a few games, a kids' room, a pool table, Ping-Pong and even an indoor pool.
Both indoor and outdoor pool available on-site. We used the indoor one and I have to say that it needs some work. The chlorine smell was VERY Strong, safety depth markings were missing or too faint, the water a bit tired. The room temperature was too low.
Overall I think there is room to improve but looking at the big picture in the area this is a place I would recommend.

Very well situated overlooking the St. Lawrence River: the view is outstanding. Room are large, well appointed and very confortable. You have all what is needed to enjoy the outdoor right on the premises. Vast property.
Take the meal package, breakfast and dinner. Their chef is outstanding and very special with salad dressings: nothing tasted before, awsome!

Place is spotless. Our room was great but the lighting a bit dim making reading difficult. No carpets which for us is a plus. Did not try the restaurant as we are vegetarians and did not see any such options at dinner. Staff was friendly and efficient. Great view on the St-Lawrence.
