We stayed two nights here but wished we were staying longer. Our room was beautiful and the owners take such care over all the small details to make the stay feel really special. We were in La Brume but any of the rooms would be lovely here. You can walk down to the small harbour with your beer or wine or stroll along the beach in the evening sun. Breakfast was a real gourmet affair and delicious. The owners took exceptional care with Covid precautions. Highly recommend staying here and we will be booking up again.

Exceptional stay in a tastefully decorated inn. The views will take your breath away, and the warm welcome (and amazing breakfast cooking) from the hosts will make your stay simply perfect. Will definitely go back to this place in summer time to enjoy more of Charlevoix.

My husband and I were primarily visiting Montreal and Quebec City but rented a car for three days so we could visit La Malbaie, Saguenay and the Parc du Jacques Cartier. When we saw the listing for this bed and breakfast, we immediately booked a room. We chose the king room with a fabulous view of the St. Lawrence River. Our host, Silvain, was very welcoming and helpful. He and his wife prepared delicious breakfasts for our two mornings there. It was very quiet, the bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the bathroom had everything we needed. I would recommend this inn to couples wanting to experience great service and lovely surroundings.

We stayed at Auberge des Eaux Vives in October and had the most amazing stay. Our room was wonderful, the scenery was excellent, and Sylvain was an incredible host. The standout of our stay was definitely the breakfasts! They really were next level. Auberge des Eaux Vives is at the top of our list of guesthouses to return to.

After reading the glowing reviews of Auberge des Eaux Vives on Trip Advisor, we had high expectations for our stay. We have to say that our expectations were exceeded in every way - the comfort and cleanliness of our room and the common areas, the relaxed, peaceful setting, the warm reception and helpful guidance from Sylvain and the wonderful breakfasts prepared by Johanne. Our stay at Auberge des Eaux Vives was a truly outstanding experience and we can’t recommend it enough.

We stayed for five nights, and Sylvain was extremely helpful with information and directions in planning our day trips to sights in the region and arranging for our dinners in the evening. We wanted to eat at some of the best places in the area that serve dishes with a local flavor, and every place Sylvain recommended that we dine was excellent.

Every day began with an incredible breakfast prepared by Johanne. Breakfast usually included a smoothie or juice for first course, an entrée, a main course and then a little bite of something sweet to end the meal. And the five mornings that we stayed, something different was served for breakfast each day. To give an example, one morning’s breakfast consisted of an orange/mango/raspberry smoothie, an entrée of spinach quiche with tomato salad, a main course of French toast with raspberry jam, maple syrup and fresh fruit and for “dessert”, a small bite of maple fudge with dried cranberries. The breakfasts were always a nice balance of protein, fruit and carbs that gave us energy for the days activities. In fact, we either skipped lunch or split something small for lunch, since we weren’t really hungry until dinner after such a delicious and satisfying breakfast.

There are tables both indoors and on a deck outdoors where you can have your breakfast or spend some leisure time. The weather cooperated for us and we always had our breakfast outdoors on the deck, which has a beautiful view overlooking the St Lawrence River. Our last night we bought local cheeses, sausage, vegetables and bread and had a picnic dinner on the deck as the sun set. Aubereg Des Eaux Vives maintains a kitchen area with a refrigerator, plates, wine glasses, silverware, cutting boards, coffee maker, etc. - everything you need if you want to bring a lunch/dinner/snack back and enjoy it on the deck.

We’ve stayed at a number of B&Bs, and Auberge des Eaux Vives is at the top of our list. The place is meticulously maintained and spotlessly clean. Our room was very comfortable with a king-sized bed, a flat screen TV with CD/DVD player, sound system (with an iPod adapter in case you want to provide your own music), modern, spacious bathroom and shower and wonderful view of the St Lawrence.

Sylvain and Johanne are awesome hosts, making you feel at home from the start. If you are planning a trip up to Charlevoix, we can’t give a high-enough recommendation for the Auberge des Eaux Vives. We can’t wait to go back.

WOW !

What can I add to the other reviews to convince you that this place is in a League of its own ? Everything you read about this place only begins to render justice to the quality of the setting. However, I am still compelled to share my own experiences with the world.

We are regulars at Les Eaux Vives for we have stayed there on four (4) other occasions. We were there in the humble beginnings and already, we knew we had found something special. Since then, we came back and the place never falls short of blowing us away. Simply put, should you want to spend some time there, you better hurry and book your room right now... for next year ! When we were there last week-end, all three (3) couples were returning costumers and all of us booked for another stay next year !!!

Sylvain, the innkeeper, is wonderful with people. Not too nosy and always ready to help. On the other hand, Johanne works her wonders in the kitchen. Calling what she prepares a breakfast is an insult to the effort she puts in. It is more a morning-culinary-Charlevoix-discovery-experience. Describing it is impossible. A picture would not be fair. Try it !!! We have been there five (5) times, for two (2) days each stay; and we were never served the same dish twice.

The place is tastefully decorated and the walls are adorned with fine art. There are numerous private areas and very comfortable chairs on the lawn and the patio. A huge flat screen awaits you in the living room, (or your own room) and there is a wide variety of DVD's. The beds are from heaven and the sheets would have Kings and Emirs wonder what the hell have they been sleeping in all this time ! The view is breathtaking and the scenery makes you want to move there forever.

In a nutshell, if God would ever rest, he would certainly do so at Les Eaux Vives. If God even exists, he surely has a room at Les Eaux Vives...

This is one of the few reviews I have written...and my husband and I have traveled around the world. The Auberge des Eaux Vives had us as we walked in the door--"twice" ! In fact, I reserved our room for the 2nd stay as we departed from our 1st visit. We loved it just that much.
This is the kind of auberge where you literally feel as though they have thought of 'everything'--
Let me start at at breakfast---you will eat every bite--from the wonderful 'fresh juice-smoothie' starter to the creative french toasts or egg dishes---just delicious--and did I mention the final breakfast 'sweet' ---oh, yes...you'll eat that, too. Promise.

And then you will meander back to your room with a view of the St. Lawrence--and you won't want to leave. The view is that lovely.

So maybe you read a book....and enjoy a cup of cappucino--while you linger.
Or visit one of the many amazing parks--to bike or hike.
Whales...you want? A short drive away---depending on the season. Fantastic.

Want a nap? Linens...soft and warm--you will sleep like a baby. Amenities---the best, local soaps and oils.

So, while I may sound 'over the top' about Auberge des Eaux Vives--trust me, I'm not.

We will go back again....and you should go as well.

Enjoy--and tell Sylvain and JoAnna we sent you.

Spectacular: the location looking over the small harbour of Cap a l'aigle and the St. Lawrence, the breath-taking sunrises over the river, the comfort and cleanliness of the room and of the auberge, the superb and delicious multi-course breakfasts of Johanne, and the extremely accommodating and helpful host, Sylvain.

Book it! We stayed at L'Auberge for 2 nights and loved it. Clean, comfortable, quiet, and welcoming (which is sometimes lacking in a B&B!) We felt like we could make ourselves at home and even chose to stay in one night for popcorn and a movie. Sylvain is very organized and welcoming and Johanne is an amazing cook - they even accommodated our early departure and packed us a delicious lunch since we were missing breakfast. Don't hesitate, you won't regret staying here.

This was our 3rd visit (and longest stay at 7 nights) to Auberge des Eaux Vives since August 2013 and each stay has been pure delight. When you stay somewhere and have a great experience, naturally your expectations are set at a high standard when you return. What we find each time we return to Auberge des Eaux Vives is that our expectations are often exceeded. The owners, Sylvain and Johanne, have really thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The breakfasts that Johanne prepares are amazing (see our photos in this review and previous reviews) and Sylvain is there to look after your needs, whether it’s planning your recreational activities or where you are going to eat that night.

First off, the place is immaculate, from the individual rooms to the common areas. The room we stay in has a small balcony looking out on the St Lawrence River, a very comfortable king-sized bed, large screen TV with receiver, DVD player, speakers and IPod dock, a small table and 2 chairs in the corner. Two wine glasses are provided in case you want to enjoy a glass of wine in your room. The bathroom is large with a tub and a separate shower. The room and bathroom are smartly decorated and are spotlessly clean. If you leave your drapes open at night when you go to sleep, you will be greeted by the most beautiful sunrises over the St Lawrence, something we always enjoy during our stays.

When you stay at Auberge des Eaux Vives, be sure to make use of the common areas. There are indoor areas for reading, watching a movie, playing games or having a snack or a take home dinner. They have all the glasses, silverware, plates, etc. that you need if you decide to bring food back to enjoy on the property. There is a beautiful deck and a tent on the lawn where you can enjoy wine, cocktails or even a picnic dinner. These outdoor sitting areas overlook the scenic St. Lawrence River and marina. And of course, you can enjoy Johanne's wonderful breakfasts each morning in these areas.

We love to take drives through the Charlevoix region, stopping to pick up locally made/grown treats like cheeses, sausages, breads, fruit and vegetables and then bring them back to Eaux Vives to have a picnic on the deck as the sun sets. It really does feel magical there.

Right down the hill (5 minute walk) from Auberge des Eaux Vives is a marina with a restaurant that opened in the past year. The restaurant’s open air deck provides a view of the marina and the St. Lawrence, and the food and wine were very good. Also within easy walking distance are Les Jardins du Cap-a-l’Aigle, a beautiful terraced garden with a variety of flowering plants and trees and small waterfalls leading down to the St. Lawrence. The town of La Malbaie is a 5 minute drive away, where you will find great restaurants, nice places to stroll, art galleries, a museum and the casino if that’s your thing. We had many of our dinners at restaurants in La Malbaie, all places that Sylvain recommended, and every dinner was terrific. We can’t think of a time when the service wasn’t warm and friendly and the food delicious.

If you are unfamiliar with the region, Auberge des Eaux Vives is ideally located between a number of area attractions. There are two beautiful Canadian National Parks, Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Riviere Malbaie and Grands-Jardins, that are about 45 minute to an hour scenic rides to the north and northwest. Going north up the coast, it’s about 45 minutes to the Saguenay region, with the dramatic Saguenay Fjord, whale watching and more park areas to hike and villages to visit. To the south are the artist towns and culinary destinations of Saint-Irenee, Les Eboulements and Baie St-Paul, all easy, pleasant drives from where Auberge des Eaux Vives is located in Cap-a-L’Aigle.

We make it a policy to only review places we love, so if our reviews look skewed towards the positive, that is the reason. We prefer to not write about the places that don’t meet or exceed our expectations. That said, Auberge des Eaux Vives is at the very top of our list of places we love to stay at and we once again left looking forward to our next visit to Cap-a-L’Aigle and the great hospitality of Sylvain and Johanne. This is a special place!
