I've been going to your Pension for 30 years. Pension usually does not charge for the pool. Why charge resort fees if you don’t take all the other services like tennis, golf... charge it to those who want to use it but not to people who don’t want it to be taxed. I’m 80 years old and my wife is a walker, these fees should not be charged for people who can’t do any sport and activity of young or fit... frankly, it seems to me that there must be a balance. Especially to charge it every day is really abuse maybe to charge to the stay it will be accepted more but still there when you do not use it because you can not...
Another point, we had the cleaning service in the room the first 3 nights but the last night, no service and we had not changed anything at our request, it is flat to arrive in the evening late evening and see that your room was not made (the bed not made...) to have clean washcloths? What's going on? This never happened before the famous ecological options, I believe but human cleanliness is also important, I do not wash twice with the same washcloth the next day... and you? Know less chemical, I absolutely have to bring my own soap now since you had to impose the soaps already in their large format for ecology. I am at the Inn and I do not even have my option for hypoallegen for my skin.
The room key was supposed to be good for all 4 nights and yet again this year the key was locked and we were no longer able to enter our room on the night of the transition, still there at 80 years old I am not so fit to return to the reception to reactivate the key every time I come to relax to my stay I want to relax (an Anne it was on our return from the pool in bathrobe... and there on our return at the end of the evening) and I have to get mad to return to the reception to reactivate my key.
From local products to restaurants, kefta is really not local. The version here will be the homemade sausage from Quebec... it seems to me that I am in Quebec not in Africa... we also have our roots in Charlevoix that makes our mark. If I go to Africa I will eat Kefta... the octopus not so sure that it is so local... Where are the seasonal fruits (strawberries, blueberries...) it is local and fresh...?
Other than that it is still my favorite place. Otherwise it would be perfect.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights over Easter Weekend. We were given room 114 on the first floor. The hotel has 5 floors. The room was very large and had all of the amenities we could have wanted/needed. The King bed was very comfortable. The shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The breakfast has everything you could want included made to order omelettes. The best part is breakfast ran until 2 PM on the weekend so there was no need to rush like with some hotel breakfasts. We found this especially beneficial for our time in the area. The hotel offered many outdoor activities, including hiking, climbing the cliff, skiiing, snowmobiling etc. There was an indoor and outdoor pool and hot tub (we stayed in the indoor pool and hot tub but many others braved the outdoor pool). We did not use the sauna or spa. We stayed on a package that included parking, a meal discount and breakfast. The hotel did make an error and charged us for parking (but we hope they will correct their mistake - or the updated review will have a less positive tone). The only other thing of note is for those that need total darkness. Room 114 had a roll down screen to block the light from coming in but the blind only went down to about 90-95%. There was daylight getting into the window, in other words. This did not negatively impact our sleep or stay but it could impact some that need total darkness to sleep. I have advised the hotel of this in an email that also requested our parking refund; so, we hope both will be addressed appropriately. It is a nice hotel with great staff and amenities. They do need more/better food options; as, you did not have much choice (even with the local options). All of the meal options were also on the pricey side.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. I am sure it would be much busier in the winter and summer months when local weather and activities are in full motion.

Response from Adrien Demol, Guest Services / Front Office at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu
I’ve always loved going to Manoir Richelieu but since we added the holiday fees imposed on everyone, I find that there is abuse. Firstly the sports center and swimming pool are services that all hotels offer at no extra cost when I go to stay elsewhere in other hotels, so why charge me for other services that I will not use (we are not all the type of sports to play tennis, mountain bike especially in Charlevoix you have to have legs in very good shape, mini putt etc...everyone should pay what he wants to do, not impose an Award to all if we do not want to do them. For example even for my parents (golden age and difficulty getting around) who do not use these Things to do then it is really not fair. Walking all this great complex takes a lot of effort, but they love the Manor so much it’s like their cottage for life for years. For the menu you say local, where are the typical menus of Quebec terroir. The menu we had a few years ago was still more typical before COVID (we had the evening buffet in St. Lawrence with local meats and cheeses, fresh breads ... fine cheeses from the Migneron ... and for the breakfast buffet in Bellerive there were berries from Quebec, fine cheese and cold meats from Quebec ... apart from the famous maple butter pancake that is still there but it was less dripping when it was rolled...) But octopus and all the Mediterranean menus I have in Laval and Montreal please put meals more typically local traditions of Quebec. If I want Mediterranean I will go to Casa Grecque but not to the Manor. At the sauna, you would really need a shower inside to remove the impurities on the way out (before the renovation of this new sauna there was one) you would have to put one back on the way out of the sauna because everyone goes to the cold pool on the way out and we put our sweats .. in this pool it is not too hygienic and to go to the outdoor shower or in the changing rooms it is not too convenient because they are far...

No towels at the pool! No towel in locker room for showering before or after the pool. Indoor whirlpool does not work with 6 young people under the age of eight who are having fun jumping without supervision. No parents with them. The staircase with the slippery steps, because everyone leaves soaked to go to the room with wet dressing gown and bath mailhot. Indoor swimming pool not heated and outdoor with cold area almost everywhere. Full exterior swirl; only place with hot water. If you take the towel from your room; you have a damp towel full of chlorine to wipe yourself off! No customer service! We tell you that the laundry room is in Quebec! For your next stay bring your bathrobe and towels! Excellent for people who don't want to wash up and go to the Casino!

Having stayed at several Fairmont Hotels in Canada, this one is just "okay," which is probably not the kind of feeling you want to have when you are spending $500+ a night. We paid for a family suite, and there's just a lack of attention to detail at this hotel and curious design decisions in the rooms that just end up being frustrating.
PROS:
(1) Free parking outside that is reasonably close, if you can find it
(2) Lovely location with large hotel grounds
(3) Pool area is excellent
(4) Some staff members really go above and beyond (especially Nivil in the pool area)
(5) It was nice that they had a small indoor play area for small children
(6) Bed was comfy
CONS:
(1) Lots of things are sort of broken, at least in our room. The Chromecast didn't work (and I'm tech savvy, it was not user error), one set of manual blinds didn't work, the button for the mechanical blinds randomly fell off the wall, the heater was never able to get the room above 22 degrees C in the main room (we went in winter), the desk lamp was broken and wouldn't say upright, the faucets handles need to be moved in millimeters otherwise the water goes from too cold to scalding hot.
(2) If you don't speak French, you will to a certain extent be treated as a second-class citizen, at least by some of the staff. I speak half-way decent French, but still got the vibe. Some staff do not speak English at all (I know it's Quebec and they speak French there, but if you are at a deluxe hotel, you would expect at least some staff to speak even broken English).
(3) Everything in the room just kind of feels old. Part of that is to maintain the historic vibe, but at some point you need to replace things that just plain don't work (like the desk lamp that kept falling on my laptop).
(4) Food is mediocre--the best meal I had was from the fast food St. Hubert at the Casino. Our server for dinner at Le Saint Laurent was not very good--we spent 20 minutes just waiting for our dessert and check. If you aren't drinking wine, they put you on the back burner.
(5) I can only speak for the winter, but the clientele here is quite old--I would say the average age was 55-60. Not too many families stay here.
(6) Strange design choices, at least in our room. Mechanical shades that took forever to open and close (it would have been better if they had just been manual), very poor interior lighting (just a couple lamps, no overhead lighting), light switches that turn on the hallway + the closet, so if someone had to find something in the closet at night, it would light up the whole room.
(7) Nothing remarkable about the rooms, period. They definitely do not scream luxury. Rather characterless, some cheap finishes (especially in the bathroom). Definitely not a room you are going to remember.
Overall the stay was fine, but probably not worth what we paid. If I were staying in Charlevoix in the future, I might consider a B&B for something a little more memorable.

Response from Adrien Demol, Guest Services / Front Office at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu
The hotel is a castle-style heritage building in Canada. It is superbly located high on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. The style and decoration take you back to the 1930s.
The room I occupied is a large room with a double bed, desk and chair, sofa and armchair, with river views. It is completed by a bathroom with sink, toilet and shower. The room is equipped with a safe, an empty minibar, air conditioning, a TV with TV5. It is clean, comfortable and quiet. On the other hand the decoration is any, which is a shame in such an establishment. The wifi works everywhere.
At breakfast the buffet is beautiful and quite correct. On the other hand, if the bar is nice, the tasting is spoiled by an age-old sound system, dysfunctional and ultimately unbearable (we wonder why not cut it, since it does not work at all).
But the site is beautiful and rising from the sun in the morning on the St. Lawrence River is an unforgettable image.

No bell boy , no valet, only one bed, no information on accommodations, most restaurants closed too early morning and evening. In short, a Casino with rooms that ine not worth a 5I did not like paid parking for an 83 year old guest who has difficulty getting around. I have never seen accommodation charge me for an extra two beds for two double beds. Restaurants close far too early for guests who arrive after 4 hours at your request. While registering and settling down, only one Resto le St-Hubert is open (until 9 a.m.) and you must pay in advance and pick up your cabaret at the counter near the kitchen. (No table service for seniors). Also, walking 2 corridors to get to our room with our old legs is not very pleasant. (No Bell boy service for a 5* hotel) No call sign to move around the hotel without asking (Where is the elevator for example) Is there an indoor swimming pool accessible? etc. In short, we don't want to spend 350 miles staying with you, preferring the Casino de Hull much closer to Montreal..*

This establishment in which we spent several nights is absolutely to be avoided. No service when you arrive by car, an overwhelmed bellman. Once inside, the huge, old-fashioned hall is not welcoming and does not invite serenity; a huge hubbub and people everywhere. Very noisy place. Once Check in was done, the rooms were all located in a huge cold corridor and very close to the elevators for two of them. The decoration of the rooms is outdated and shabby, the bathroom with toilet is small and the electrical equipment is from another era...The blinds are not blackout and a rod was unhooked in one of the rooms. Burnt out bulbs not changed and dust everywhere. The soundproofing of the rooms is disastrous: you hear the children in the next room screaming, the occupant(s) of the neighboring rooms use their bathroom and toilet at all hours including the middle of the night, disrespectful guests arrive at all hours and talk very loudly when getting out of the elevator when they are not singing while drunk. A wedding was celebrated on Saturday... We had premium rooms and we are Diamond. Last step: payment for our stay. Accor/Fairmont applies a daily surcharge of $35 per room per night for facilities in addition to the room rate without notifying you. This is in addition to taxes. Finally, plan to make a sprint to find a free parking space, the latter being also open to all external visitors who come to the hotel casino and to the fair with a circus organized in the hotel park! And when we leave, as when we arrive, you are greeted by pickets of friendly casino staff.

We recently stayed at Manoir Richelieu for the third time this fall, and unfortunately, our experience this time was very disappointing.
The room was fine, but the rest of the stay left something to be desired. Breakfast, which used to be a hot buffet, is now a continental cold buffet, and you have to pay an extra fee to have a hot lunch (1 course). This change is truly regrettable and I do not understand the decision of the leaders.
The evening meal was also problematic: out of less than a dozen choices, three courses were unavailable, including salad and fries. My dish, a roast poultry, was disappointing: the portion was small, very fat and accompanied by few sides.
In these circumstances, we have decided not to return to Manoir Richelieu. It’s a shame, because we enjoyed our previous visits.
That's why I would give a rating of 2.5 / 5 because the room is a 5/5 and the restaurant a 1/5

I apologize for my tardy response.
To be honest, I don’t know since we drove but I do imagine there would be taxis. I suggest you call the hotel directly to be better informed. Cheers!
