This is an older Auberge in an excellent location just down river from La Malbaie. We stayed in the upper annex in a deluxe room which was large, newly decorated, with a newly renovated walk in shower and king bed. Lovely views of the spacious grounds and the river. Breakfast was served individually, not buffet style, but the selection presented was well thought out and tasty. To accommodate current distancing requirements, it was served in a well spaced dining room.

I would choose the deluxe room option again and make sure to ask for a room on the river rather than the road side. It is not on the highway, but below it, so rooms on the road side would be less pleasant. I am not sure the rooms in the original house would be as large as those in the annex.

Staff were very pleasant. The room and property were very clean. The gardens are well cared for. WiFi was excellent . There was a coffee maker, fridge, iron and ironing board, and fireplace in the room. Some parts of the property need some renovation and repainting, but they are clearly working on that.

I would recommend this as a place to stay for a few days.

We stayed 2 nights in the adjacent building, which was next to the highway. The rooms were clean and very very small.
There is no air conditioning, so we had to open the windows, which in turn made it noisy. There is a portable fan in the room.
We had an iron but no ironing board, there was no dresser. The room so small I hit my head a few times on the slanted walls that had corners, and I’m not a tall person. Small bathroom with the sink outside the bathroom.
Breakfast was okay.
I found it overpriced.
Slightly disappointed, I would not recommend to anyone, if asked.

Stayed two nights in July 2022. Welcoming and helpful staff, great breakfast, and spacious room. An easy walk to the water and a very short drive into town. Would definitely stay again. Used this location as a jumping off point before taking the ferry across to the south short and onto the Gaspé Peninsula.

We had a fantastic stay with amazing food (they catered for vegetarians 😁) and wonderful traditional music. The rooms are very nicely decorated. The location is among very beautiful mountains. Perfect stop on the way to Merzouga desert ❤️ very friendly staff. Highly recommended!

Needed a getaway after regular travel plans were shelved due to Covid. Nice place in a beautiful part of the country. Deluxe room was fine, clean, decent bed, nice duvet. Could use a little updating, overall a pleasant stay.

Nice atmosphere in the main lobby and helpful, friednly staff. Rooms were very underwhelming and outdated. Rooms are very small and "rustic". Same with the bathrooms extremely tight space and older overall. Considering the price of the room we would probably stay elsehwere next time in the area. Also strange being asked to tip the hotel with a credit card at time of check out.

The Auberge des Peupliers makes for a perfect romantic getaway. We had a charming room with a view of the St. Lawrence river, a fireplace and a bathtub big enough for two. The Nespresso machine was a nice touch for a good morning coffee in the room. The staff members are friendly and helped us find some really nice hiking trails in the area.

The highlight of our stay was definitely the food. Breakfast begins with a warm, freshly-made muffin (a different kind every day) and home-made jam. And that's before you order. The seven-course dinner was just as delicious, and our waitress helped us choose a great bottle of wine. I liked the fact that the menu featured a lot of local produce, meats and cheeses.

I would describe the Auberge as high quality without pretension. I highly recommend it.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the auberge in July 2011. We loved our stay! We requested the deluxe room with fireplace ( picture on website) and it was great. Next time we may request a room on a higher floor to have more of a view of the river. The restaurant for dinner and massages were great...High recommend getting a couples massage!

Located in a great location...a few minutes by car to town. Quiet, peaceful and a romantic getaway!
The hotel staff were very helpful...

Our room was on the small side but perfectly adequate. A window and glass door had a modest view of the river and the door opened onto a lawn sloping down to the main building and restaurant. It was just right.

Better than just right were the breakfast and dinner that came with our three night package. The food was simply delicious and inventive, with plenty of variety for a three night stay. The Charlevoix area focuses on growing food for local consumption, and the same focus prevails in the restaurant -- local meats, fish, poultry, vegetables and cheeses. As a Californian, I wish there had been more Canadian wines.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. We would definitely go back again.

I have stayed at Auberger des Peupliers over the last weekend with my husband, and had a fabulous time. This auberge has four types of rooms, we had booked the superior room, which was located in a small rock house next to the main house. The room was very nicely decorated (all rooms have different decoration), and was very clean. There were two bathrobes for our usage, which was quite nice.

Included with our room was a 5 service meal on saturday night, and breakfast on sunday morning. Both meals were excellent, and staff is extremely courteous. In the main house, there is a lounge with fireplace, and bar, where it is nice to relax before having supper, or for reading the paper in the morning.

Also, the view of the St-lawrence river is simply stunning. It was our first time in the Charlevoix region, we will definitely return.

Last, there is also a spa/sauna service, that you can book for private use, which was great. I would recommend booking the spa a couple of days before you arrive for your stay, as spa was all booked when we arrived.

We will definitely return to Auberge des peupliers.

are golden retriever dogs welcome?
Dear Bonnie. Dogs are welcome at Auberge des Peupliers in superior rooms only. You will have more space and a semi-private terrasse with a view on the river. (There is a extra of 25$/stay).
