If you like beautiful old homes of character, you’ll love L’Ermitage. For those who want a pastoral setting, warmth of home, character of design and furnishings, and relaxed friendliness from the owners, L’Ermitage will give all you want.

I stayed in Quai des brumes, a suite in one of the turrets. It looked out over their duck pond and to the river—a gorgeous view. Part of the suite was a large sitting area, with door leading to a porch. The bed was quite comfortable and the room had both a sink and small refrigerator. The bath—just outside the main door—was spacious, with a window looking out over the grounds and a tub with shower. It was stocked with toiletries and with bath toys for kids—a thoughtful touch.

Johanne Grenier and Adrien Gagnon are the able hosts. Johanne provided the appealing and tasty breakfasts, which included eggs, fruit, pate, cheeses, breads, muffins, jams, and juice. Adrien provided helpful advice on activities, directions, and dinner options in the community. Both provided good conversation.

When you’re hungry, I heartily recommend Gisele’s Café Bistro OK des Pionniers. Adrien suggested it, knowing that I’m vegetarian. (Vegetarianism was a difficult concept to explain in Quebec, wherever I ate.) When Gisele understood my food preferences, she promised to fix me something that I’d like. Next night when I returned, Gisele donned her Asian coolie hat and brought me a good sized plate of pasta topped with a bountiful array of fresh vegetables cooked just to tender, with a tomato sauce. Tasty and filling. I sat outside, with a view of the docks and boats. It was relaxing and beautiful. Gisele is clearly a character. Next time, I hope to talk to her more.

Great hosts, charming rooms - very clean - and the best breakfast. Enough reasons for us to return and spend another relaxing time in beautiful Saint Jean Port Joli. Since we are Swiss, we know what great hospitality feels like.

Stayed at L'Ermitage with my wife one night while touring along the St. Lawrence. We thought it looked like a big doll house surrounded by well kept grounds and with a view of the St. Lawrence. A short stroll away is a sculpture garden that makes for an unusal diversion before breakfast. The alpacas check you out from their pen as you pass by. The town itself is full of art shops so you can poke around there for quite awhile if you are so inclined. French is the language but as native English speakers we never encountered any real difficulties.

We stayed in the first floor suite. Clean, comfortable, nicely appointed. We particularly liked the little porch with table and chairs where we sat and sipped our tea in the evening. The porch could use a few repairs and a new coat of paint but that did not take away from the experience.

The dining room is very inviting. There are three alcoves in the "turrets" that make for private dining environments. There is also a large table in the middle of the room. Well lighted, nice view of the grounds. Inka the dog patroled the outside porch frequently checking us out through the window.

Breakfast itself was nicely presented. Fruit plate and a waffle with strawberries. Coffee or tea although they did not offer decaff coffee. Although the breakfast was nice to look at and was fine for what it was, ultimately it was not very filling. So if you are a big eater, don't be looking for one of those hearty Canadian breakfasts.

France and Clement were very nice, accomodating hosts. They helped assure a comfortable, pleasant stay. I am sure you could do much worse than L'Ermitage. Total bill: a little over $100.00 including taxes.

One final thing. If you are touring this region, stay on Rt 132. It takes you through all the towns and is quite interesting with great scenery.

We spent one night here to on our tour of the Gaspe region. France and Clement were very accommodating and helpful. The breakfast was simple, but healthy and with fresh ingredients including on-site eggs from the hen house. It was the best breakfast we had at any B&B during our two week stay in the Gaspe. Our main floor room was quite comfortable with a small fridge and a semi-private balcony. No river views, those were only available from the upstairs rooms. Good location for walking around town.

We stayed here one night on our way home to Kingston, Ontario. I cannot say enough good
things about this place. The gorgeous old building looks like a little castle and the rooms are comfortable and homey, and we had a beautiful view of the St. Lawrence. The owners are friendly and go out of their way to make sure your stay is enjoyable. My daughter loved the alpacas - what other B&B comes with alpacas? The breakfast was delicious and the owners are happy to accommodate any allergies or special requests.

Found this gem online. The pictures of the B&B were intriguing - a "castle-like" house with llamas in an enclosure. The room we selected was on the ground floor mostly because it had an ensuite. Our lack of French language ability was not a problem. The room was neat and clean and had little things like wine glasses and a corkscrew. We were able to watch satellite tv on a nice HDTV in the common room. The next morning we got an excellent, tasty, home-cooked breakfast: yogurt with fresh strawberries and granola to start. Then came two crepes filled with apples, bacon and Brie, and maple syrup. Superb!

Our 2nd stay at this lovely B and B where we were welcomed once again in such a friendly and helpful manner. The home is enchanting and a treat to stay in. Our room had two turrets, one where we sat reading with the windows open wide to the beautiful view of the St. Lawrence River. Our private bathroom was spotlessly clean and well supplied. Some new pillows would be a welcome addition to make the night even better. The grounds and gardens are well tended and if you are lucky the Llamas and Emu will trot over to the fence in greeting. Each day the breakfasts are a different gourmet delight. The town is delightful, so many accomplished artists, woodworkers and other craftspeople, enough to complete your Christmas shopping. There are good restaurants within easy walking distance of the B and B also.

My only regret is we only spent 1 night in this wonderful b & b. The rooms were very nice complete with 2 turrets, very clean with lovely views of the river & gardens. My 15 yr old daughter was fascinated by the alpacas, rabbits & chickens but not a huge fan of the llama. The grounds were impeccably maintained with beautiful flower beds throughout.

Both of our hosts could not be more thoughtful or accomodating & spoke english fluently. When they found out my daughter was a vegetarian, they quickly made changes to the breakfast which was very much appreciated. Breakfast was quiche, yogurt parfaits & home made breads. While we were the only english speakers, the other guests made every effort to make us feel welcome & included. From beginning to end, our experience at L'Ermitage was both charming & welcoming and we look forward to our next trip there.

This place looks beautiful from the outside and perhaps some of the rooms inside are beautiful as well however, we had a first floor room (Le Repère des Anges) which was just to the left of the main entrance door...with a tiny shower stall.

That would have been fine but the room was not very clean there were cobwebs in almost every corner, balls of hair in the bathroom and on the electric heat register...I don't mean to be picky but we had stayed in 4 other B&B's and hotels prior to coming to this place and none had cobwebs or other people's hair in them...not to mention the bugs on the INDOOR breakfast tables...there was an earwig on the coffee maker and in the bread basket as well as a fly in the coffee cup.

Given the place we stayed in previously was out in the country on a lake and there were no bugs inside we were quite surprised by the bugs here as it was not in such a rural setting.

There are a great many restaurants close by and we did have an excellent evening meal...however, there is a language barrier given we do not speak French...the staff at the restaurant did their best but I must admit we did feel like a spectacle as the staff seemed to be tossing a coin to see who had to wait on the english speaking couple

Adrien the owner of the B&B (Gite) was very kind and informative about the area...however, again at breakfast we faced the language barrier and were left out of any conversations over breakfast which seemed to be very entertaining and jovial.

It was quite strange to me that we were still in Canada - it seemed a world away given less people in this area of Quebec spoke English compared to say other countries we have visited Mexico, Costa Rica, Greece...

We enjoyed a stay with our family - we booked 3 of the lovely rooms for one night as we travelled through Quebec. The house is fairy tale like and beautiful, overlooking the St. Lawrence River.
The rooms were warm and inviting. They have a large living and dining area downstairs where we relaxed before and after dinner.
There are plenty of restaurants nearby .There is a gorgeous porch outside to sit and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.
We all enjoyed a marvelous full breakfast the next morning-eggs, bacon, waffles, a variety of breads and cheeses, cereals - all made to order.
The owners were friendly and accommodating.
We enjoyed it so much that some of us made a point of staying there again on our way back home.
