This is a family operation with excellent attention to customer service and comfort. The accommodation was a suite with a well-equipped kitchenette. There is a great free breakfast and the owner Gabriella baked a special banana pastel that was outstanding. She also made an excellent recommendation for a restaurant with live music. The place was a little noisy, but this... More

Checked in to a warm welcome late on a Thursday night. Long day to get there. Our room was #1 and right near the entrance. Plenty of help with our luggage. Very good room and a very good night's slumber. Sure there are chickens and dogs. After all it's Mexico you know. It was quiet in the AM but coffee... More

I really enjoyed staying here. The owners are very helpful, wonderful people. The grounds and rooms are clean and well kept. And, the walk to anywhere is easy. After reading one review I thought it would be an uphill climb. That is not the case. I found everything about Casa de la Abuela to be charming. It is family owned... More

Nice Place, with nicely appointed rooms, pleasant staff with an OK, but average breakfast. Fresh fruit was a nice add. I had reached out directly to them, and after no response for many hours, I finally booked at a cheaper rate than they ultimately offered. The rooms were very nicely decorated. The noise from the street below was noticeable in... More

This is a unique 'family feel' hotel with large beautiful grounds. One can relax in a chaise lounge by the pool, enjoy comfortable couch/chair in the lobby, which is really a courtyard, or use the terrace which many rooms have. Quite a few rooms also have kitchenettes. Everything you need is there, if not, you can ask for it. The... More

This hotel was recommended to us and is very close walking distance to the main part of town. It also has parking which was important to us. The rooms are very sweet and the staff are wonderful. This is a gem of a hotel located above the town for the best view of the lake. It is a family owned property where guests are welcomed with warm smiles and encouraged to enjoy their hospitality. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Grandmother, Teresa, is originally form the State of Michoacán. In 1998 she retired from her business, and moved to the State of Jalisco. She became enamored with the panoramic views and the quality of the people in Ajijic. Michoacán is known for artisans that produce precision works of art from various types of wood. Because of this, she decided to decorate each room with the furniture and art work which is typical of her home state. Creating beauty here is a continuing pastime, and each habitation is constantly changing and improving. ... more   less
