We stayed in Chiapas de Corzo the night before an early morning return flight home. The hotel is in a quiet section of Chiapas within walking distance to the river boats, restaurants and shops. We enjoyed the atmosphere of the small town on our last night in Mexico.
We arrived with another couple to spend 4 nights during the "feria" of Chiapa de Corzo. On check-in, it became clear that the rate we had booked on the website (which promised "lowest online rates") was about 20% higher than the rate our friends were paying, having booked their room on a major travel website. Our rooms were both in the garden section, despite our having booked a room in the front section. When I inquired about the location of our room, the desk person gave me a runaround about the front of the hotel actually being a different hotel, and the back (garden) section of the hotel being the front of the hotel. Our rooms were dark and dingy, with very little in the way of amenities. The bathrooms were so dark that you actually forgot the light was on. The shower was wretched. We were given one bath towel per person, and that was it. When we requested hand towels and washcloths, we were given one hand towel and told that the hotel did not have washcloths. Small bottles of drinking water were provided, but no drinking glasses. Desk staff were not particularly friendly, helpful, or responsive. Our rooms were cleaned late in the day, around 4pm. Airport transportation was quoted at a higher price than that offered by a travel agency in town. Would not stay in this hotel again.…
We were on our first stop on our one week tour through Chiapas. This was a perfect hotel for touring the Sumidero Canyon. Our stay coincided with a festival commemorating Parachicos Antaño. (Look it up, it is quite a story in the history of Chiapa de Corzo). The firecrackers and parades in the street woke us our first night. The hotel has nice rooms boasting of hot water 24 hours. It was warm enough but not hot. The gardens and pool were very well kept. The restaurant served very good traditional meals.
I was in room no 2. There was a single power point and the device kept coming out of the socket. The staff were friendly, but the bed was the most uncomfortable. There was AC, but as I could not sleep with AC the room was hot and stuffy. The room was not sound proof as I could hear the AC from another room all night. The good thing at this hotel is that there was hot water in the sink tap. The bath towels were aged, discoloured and one had a hole.
Four of us, all senior males, stayed five days at this hotel last February. We found the place to be very clean and comfortable, the staff very helpful and the location excellent. The main plaza and the riverside district are within walking distance, even for us old folks. The surrounding area, as well as the entire community, seems to be rather poor. The streets and sidewalks, where they exist, are very uneven so you have to be careful when walking. Cabs are plentiful and inexpensive. The hotel has a good restaurant on a second floor terrace overlooking the pool and lots of jungle vegetation. Chiapa de Corzo has the feel of the early 1900's. The hotel can arrange for private tours of the countryside and the nearby towns. Be sure to take a tour to San Cristobal de las Casas, a pre-hispanic town subsequently colonized by Spain and, to this day, very colonial. Great place to visit and a great place to stay!…
