ABBWR has been our go to resort for the past 10 years. We love that it is small and intimate and that most of the workers are long standing so they remember repeat guests and always so friendly and welcoming and willing to help in any way to make your stay a great one. That being said, we chose to become Fidelity members as we have no desire to go to any other resort when ABBWR has everything we need. The Fidelity manager, Zaisha, is personable, genuine, and professional. We were always being check on to make sure everything was going well throughout our stay which we appreciated. Also a shout out to Juan Luis one of the resort managers that is also so personable to the guests, we appreciate being asked how our visit is going and that he cares if there are any concerns. There are so many other workers who make each of our stays memorable, unfortunately, I don't always get each workers names but here are a few. Front desk: Rommel (always says hello to us even if he's not the one checking us in) Kevin (the new greeter with fresh towels, he's the sweetest young man) Ivania Spa: Paola (the manager) is so knowledgeable and helps coordinate the best person to give your massage based on what you want. She did mine this year and she was phenomenal! Beach manager, German :) such a great guy Bar manager, Maro :) the friendliest guy you'll meet who works hard 24/7 Beach towels: Dani (so friendly!) Entertainment guys (they are all GREAT): Alejandro (gives a great turtle talk) Adiel (salsa lessons!) Snack bar early morning coffee, Hermes Bar waitress, Duceli, Aracele Bartenders, Clemente, Angle and Wilberth Kooben, Holi Rodizio, Araceli Food services, Alberto (miss him at the buffet) Hector Buffet: Danela :) always has a smile and is so good with kids Yasime and Karla Luis (our old friend from the snack bar ;) AM servers: Tori, Carlos EK, Carlos Tec PM servers: Juan Carlos, Jesus once again, I regret that I don't get the name of every single worker that waits on us or passes with a friendly Hola because they are all worth mentioning. We also enjoy running into other repeat guests that travel the same time of year we do and meeting new friends as well from around the globe. We've never had a bad trip and make the best no matter the weather or seaweed of which is out of the control of the resort. If you want a smaller resort with the friendliest workers than you'll love ABBWR.

Hotel's Favourite
We have been travelling to this resort for the last 16 years. There is no other place in Mexico we would stay. Emanuele Bissoli the Guest service manager is the best I have ever dealt with. He always try's to give us the room we request and always answers any questions promptly. From the moment the plane lands and Canada Transfers is waiting to pick us up (The best Transfer company). Once at the resort the front desk staff are amazing. Ivania has been there the last few years and she is wonderful. We usually stay in a penthouse and the view from the jacuzzi at night is stunning. The rooms are always clean and refreshed daily with anything you need. I am a vegetarian and all restaurants have many choices. The food is delicious and the service even better. All the staff are great a few of our favorites are Bartenders Felipe, Clemente and Wilberth (who came with the building and has dropped three pant sizes since he started lol). Waiter at dinner Juan Carlos (best ever), Overnight restaurant Jesus, Breakfast Buffet Louis ( the nicest man), Adriana and I will call her Egg lady, I cannot believe I have forgotten her name as she is the kindest person you will meet. Beach Manager German who is the hardest working dude! I know there are people I am forgetting so just no there is not one in the last 16 years that has not been kind and great at what they do. Last but not least I will mention the patrons, that is the people we have met there and continue to meet there every year. People that now will be our life long friends. Thanks you to everyone involved in making this resort our home away from home.

There was 6 of us travelled from the UK (via TUI) for a two week break to return back to this slice of paradise. It had been 6 years since our prior visit. Staff are so friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble. So why only score 'Very Good' and not 'Excellent' ... this review is based on MY personal opinion ... This resort USED to be a relaxing, peaceful, wellness 5* resort - now it feels like a family hotel, that is too small to accommodate the influx of families in the swimming pools (main pool mostly) and not at all calm and a tranquil resort. The accommodation was noisy at all hours - slamming of doors, children running up and down the rooms and around the resort - certainly not relaxing! Sunbeds - ridiculous - this was not a problem previously, there was always plenty available no matter what time of day. But it seems people have become selfish and by 6am there was only a handful left at the rear row on the beach. None by the main pool. German (bed manager) was seen removing towels throughout the day but it didn't stop people. It was so frustrating to set an alarm to get up early so I could ensure a sunbed and then I did remain on it all day, unlike some other guests who reserved beds with a towel and then weren't seen all day. Signs were added to gazebos/wooden coverings but no one took any notice. The sunbeds don't look like they have not been updated since our visit 6 years ago - they really are dated and need replacing. Pools - Main pool was always overcrowded and we tended to use the pool near block 1. This was less busy but often cloudy in colour - but a welcome break from the heat. Pool towels - these have seen better days, some were threadbare and limited in supply - surely the hotel should be able to cope with the demand / surplus AND be able to provide something of a better quality material. Same with the room towels, they were so tiny and rough on skin - I cannot understand why no large towels provided ie Bath towel. We were shown to our room in Block 2 on floor 2 - I understand this block is to be renovated and it offers the most amazing views across the pool and the sea, however the beds in the room need replacing - we were assigned a room that had two double beds and a sofa bed but they were uncomfortable, unstable and squeaky when turning over. When we came before the accommodation offered a 'night turn down' service and whilst this occurred on the first 3 nights, it then promptly stopped. The benefits being the replacement of any products ie shampoo or towels used. We used the outdoor tub a couple of times but relaxed on the balcony between the day turning to evening, people watching and seeing the pelicans! Food - Difficult to cover all tastes and preferences for everyone, however the main buffet food was often cold. We had a couple of nights of room service and ate at the 'special' restaurants other times - but none of them were outstanding - it just meant the food was served hot! The new enclosed cafe area, offered a welcome respite from the sun in the day and we often had breakfast here (recommend the waffles and fruit) and lunch (recommend the prawns). Drinks - all ok, plenty of choice and no issues filling up our Bubba mugs. We love the beach waiting service, the team work so hard to ensure they remember the orders and always get it right. They are friendly and very welcoming. The music man - he was brilliant - we loved seeing him come to the beach every morning. Always smiling, playing a beat or two and we loved the interaction with him. Spa - I had planned to have treatments but felt the prices were too expensive (compared to the UK) so disappointed as if they were a little more reasonable in cost - I would have had a couple of treatments from the menu. Grounds - beautifully kept and plenty of wildlife to spot - love the Iguanas. The beach was cleared daily. The slice of paradise being the beautiful beach and gorgeous blue sea. The sea was rocky and uneven when getting into the water so would recommend wearing water shoes. Evening entertainment - really poor, someone playing a keyboard regularly and then other times were bands that sang the same repeated songs week on week and even then it sounded noisy, off key. We didn't stay past 9:15pm! This hotel is rated as '5 star' (Google) but it is not relaxing, peaceful and tranquil as it was 6 years ago - certainly not a 'wellness resort'. At the time of our visit, the resort felt very overcrowded and on this basis unfortunately we are unlikely to return for a third visit. However, special thanks to all the staff working hard in the heat, keeping everywhere spotlessly clean and trying their very best to please many nationalities and guests.

We arrived 4/14/24 to the welcome of Daniela at the front desk, quickly followed by a cold drink and a cool towel. Daniela was thorough in her explanations, had good attention to detail and gave a great first impression! Our penthouse suite room basic, but certainly met our expectations. The fridge was restocked daily with our requests, we were able to keep it cool, and housekeeping stopped daily to freshen things up. It was spacious and supplies were readily available. The view was magnificent! We easily found something to fill our bellies each meal. When we were bored with the buffet, we used the snack bar. Their was a large variety of foods to meet a variety of cultural palletes. We never missed breakfast at the buffet and never missed a visit with Aurora! She is muy excellente!!! Truly put a smile on our face every morning! Carlos and Jesus also took great care of us each morning! We ate at the Mexican restaurant onsite and the Rodizio twice. The staff at the Rodizio recognized us and waved every night as we returned to our room. Araceli, Guadalupe, Genaro and Joel made a last minute birthday celebration come together with music, singing, cake and candles. Many laughs among new friends. We can't fail to mention Wilberth at the main bar. His coffee is SO good and his humor was one we appreciated! He really was a central point of the resort and our new word to each other is, "REEEaaaaLLY." When laying around the pool or lounging by the beach, Guadalupe took excellent care of us each day. We shared several laughs as we explored new drinks and tried a few shots. It always amazed us that she took care of so many with great attention to details, a smiling face and a personal touch. We spent a fair amount of time with Juan at the excursion desk. He was attentive and full of knowledge! When we shared our interests, he had several options and price points available. He is certainly about the guests and their memories. Having had a past bad experience with an excursion through the excursion desk at a different resort, I feel Juan did a great job of clearly explaining and knowing when you needed pesos cash vs credit card or could use USD. We didn't end up doing all we had intended, simply because relaxing at the resort was such an experience in itself. With that said, I recommend reserving a golf cart with Cesar and spending the morning at Yal-ku and stopping for lunch at La Buena Vida! We visited the spa and where do I begin?! They genuinely were so happy to have us there and it truly was about the experience from beginning to end. They went out of their way to celebrate the birthday boy with a towel cake. We started with the sauna and steam room, then had our 90 minute couples, wellness massage. Beatriz and Eitzel were our therapists. We both felt they did an exceptional job of identifying our trouble areas and while they worked the whole body, they also helped relieve those trouble spots. We spent additional time after our massage at the hydrotherapy pool and had it to ourselves. It was such a good experience!! A few other individuals that stand out to us are Dani with the towels and Daniela at the buffet. Dani went above and beyond to help us find our chair clips when they had been moved by another guest (only happened once). Daniela was maybe a manager, but she was always lending a helping hand with a big smile! We have been home less than twelve hours and cannot wait to return to Akumal Bay Beach and Wellness Resort, hopefully with extended family and friends in tow! If you're looking for a low key resort, with priority in relaxation, look no further! This resort will leave you with amazing lifelong memories! Oh, and how could I forget?! Sea turtles are just a few steps away!

Great staff throughout our stay, all friendly and helpful, 5* for them. Our room a little worn/dated but spotlessly cleaned daily. Beach areas well maintained but a shortage of sun beds with most reserved by 07:00. A number of broken sun beds around too. Food, a great choice of venues with something for every taste. Plenty of bars and prompt table service. All in all very good for all inclusive.

My wife and I had a wonderful time here for the second time. In addition to the beautiful ambience, we also liked many other things, such as: There are sea turtles right on the beach. Lots of free activities such as painting classes, Spanish classes, meditation and yoga sessions. An extensive wellness offer. Great sights nearby. Very funny and friendly staff. Very well maintained. We will definitely book a third time.

Just home from another amazing stay here and as usual we loved it!! I can’t say enough about the beautiful grounds and such wonderful, caring and friendly staff. Highly recommend . Our daughter got married here in 2019 and it was absolutely perfect and so beautiful. We’ve been here maybe 6 or 7 times, who knows how many more to come. They are doing some renovations now so the place keeps getting better and better, Everything is close to the beach and with views. Love it.

Grateful for an amazing week in Akumal Bay, Mexico. Located on the 2nd largest Barrier Reef in the world. Amazing snorkelling steps from the Beach! They also had good food, entertainment and an amazing Yoga program. Thank you in particular to Barbara, who shared her philosophy so well, along with her amazing Yoga teaching, generously sharing her Joy and Compassion. Don't miss the spa experience, if you get a chance - I have had a lot of massages, but this is on a whole other level of wellness & relaxation. The social directors are amazing dancers & their energy is contagious. Also, ask Juan about a hike up the beach to the 'Lagoon'. It's about a 3km walk, each way - and an amazing experience. We did it comfortably in an afternoon, for a small fee! Would certainly go back again, there is an amazing - laid back vibe...

Just returned from our 4th vacation at ABBWR. As soon as you arrive you feel like you are home. I don't remember all the names of the staff that make this place so special. Some went above and beyond and I hope I get the names right. The food was fantastic. Daniella looked after us very well in the Buffet. She even made ceasar salad for us at our table. Alux (Mexican) was our favourite resaurant. The steak was amazing. Rodizio was a close 2nd favourite. All meats sliced onto your plate. All very tasty. We love that there is no reservations required for any restaurants. Just show up. We never had an issue getting a Bali Bed or chairs by the pool. German, the Beach Manager was on the job. He always knew how long beds had been empty and had no problem removing towels. Just talk to him and he will get you a spot. Thanks German. All the ladys bringing us drinks were great but Ducelli was a step above. She knew after the first drink what we wanted and kept them coming. She even made a special drink for us. The Entertainment Team were all very good. 2 new people from the last time here. We really liked Alejandro and even did his Turtle Class. Very passionate about turtles and the ocean. We also learned a few things too. We also did the painting class. Didn't get the names of the couple teaching and helping us artists (LOL). It was a lot of fun and we brought our paintings home. Not sure I will hang them. Carlos, the Hawk Man was great. Got to wear the glove and hold Luca. He ate from my hand and did a little flying. Carlos is very knowledgeable on birds and loves to share his passion with everyone. We never seen the person cleaning our room but it was spotless. We had towel art every day. Bath, Hand and Face cloths were changed daily. The fridge was restocked every day. Raymond, the Piano Man entertained us nightly.Sunday Latin Night was our favourite. Monday nights band was very good. The guitar player is one of the best I have ever seen. We love the vibe at this resort. The Staff are a Big part of it. This is not a party place. Love the snorkelling here. Turtles and Rays right out front. We can't wait to go back again for #5 vacation.
