Knowing the crowds we’d see on a beach excursion purchased from the cruise line, we decided to pass and do something on our own. An independently booked excursion, one that took us away from the cruise ship tours and tourists. We wanted a relaxing day on a quiet beach when we were in the Costa Maya, Mexico port. So after some...

We visit Almaplena looking for a secluded nice boutique hotel. Let's start with the good things: Nice rooms (even though the water from the shower was minimum and they where never able to fix this issue). The beach was ok, not as nice like the one in Mahahual town or Playa del Carmen. The hotel is a nice try to...

Perfect place if you want to get away from it and and relax by the beach. Simple but stylish and just the right amount of comfort. Good and reasonably priced restaurant, nice staff. Lovely beach. A proper tropical paradise. 30 mins drive to the nearest village. Day trips are possible to Bacalar. Go if you want a super relaxing few...

My girlfriend and I spent 2 days there after 1 week of road trip through yucatan, and we found a lovely place with wonderful rooms, a great quiet beach with no one to disturb you while reading or having a swim. Definitely a place to recommend on the area of mahahual! Access is easy if you take the road that...

We arrived in Almaplena which was our 3rd stop after Tulum and Bacalar (both fantastic). The place is really beautiful! Whoever did the decor has super nice taste. The rooms were very well appointed and someone took the time to really think about what it is to stay in a hotel room. A big surprise for us was when the...

We believe that Almaplena ticks most of the boxes for those travelers looking for, what some might say, the Tulum of yesteryear. Remotely located directly on the beach south of Mahahual, the Italian owners are to be complimented on the resort's beautiful architecture and the well appointed accommodations of their resort. As an Eco Resort, most comforts are available from...

A large group of us cruised on NCL in January 2016. We purchased a beach day at Almaplena vs. taking a cruise excursion. What a fantastic decision! This property is amazing and the staff are equally amazing! The owners Monica & her husband were extremely accommodating and flexible. The resort is secluded and quiet just perfect for a day of...

My husband and I spent a lovely day at Almaplena. We took a taxi (cost included in resort fee) to the resort. The ride was about 30 minutes. The resort was remote and had all the ambience of a Mexican resort. The staff was very laid back. There were only about 8 people on the beach/in lounges. It was very...

The room was fantastic very well presented with a beach front terrace complete with hammock (i do love a hammock!). The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful but left you to it which is nice. The food was lovely and a great continental...
