We have stayed here a few times now but we were slightly disappointed this time. The first room we were put in was a disabled room and the bathroom was poor. The water collected under the sink in a puddle as the shower is open for accessibility. There was mould around the bottom of the shower curtain and corners of the room, easily fixed but not appealing.

We were moved into a much nicer room and enjoyed a further 3 nights at the hotel. Staff were friendly resolved our issue quickly. The new room was clean and the bed was comfy.

I would have liked to have had a bin in the bathroom and I think duvets are better than blankets on the bed, I woke up feeling cold a couple of times. Also, I appreciate the breakfast is free but I think that vegetarian sausages should be an option.

I would stay here again as the location is convenient for us and parking is not a problem at this hotel. If booking online, make sure you don’t accidentally book the disabled room as the others are far nicer.

Many thanks for choosing to stay with us again. I too am disappointed your initial room was not up to our usual standards. As with most rooms they to suffer a little "wear and tear" over time and need a refurbishment from time to time to bring them back up to standard. I'm pleased to say that thanks to your feedback the issues with the disabled bathrooms were rectified very shortly after your visit. We can offer duvets (subject to availability) and additional bed linen on request, so if booking in future please let us know any special requests on booking. As I'm sure you are aware from previous visits, our complimentary breakfast already does include a wide range of products that would put some of our competitors paid breakfasts to shame. In a bid to keep our breakfast free, some speciality items are not available - however there is still a large range of vegetarian and vegan friendly products available. We also encourage guests with special dietary requirements w are quite prepared for them to bring their own and our chefs are quite happy to prepare this for you. See you again on your next visit!

Me and my partner booked this last minute and arrived late there was a lovely lady called Cindy there who was very helpful and responsive very concoius of customer experience. We had a lovely time. And completely understand that due to covid they are currently unable to serve breakfast ect but we would definitely return.
We arrived my partner suffers from a bad back and she moved us to a different room on the ground floor We requested extra pillows and shower gel and that was provided immediately. All anyone has to do is ask and she will do her upmost best to provide excellent customer service Yes the WiFi didn't reach; my partner has offered his not for profit services to the hotel
And if the owner reads this please pass on our special thanks to Cindy for such a lovely stay from Darren and Serena!

Stayed overnight for a party locally.
Good parking and welcoming reception staff.Room comfortable although not a very bright light in room and not enough space in bathroom to put toiletries.
Good choice at breakfast ,however there were only 12 guests in the room and we had to continually ask for cooked items to be re filled and as they only replenished them seperately we didn’t all eat together.
However good value for money.

Thank you for your review. We do offer a range of different rooms depending on the guests budget. So as well as the standard lodge rooms in which you stayed, we do have larger suites in the main hotel for those wanting more space and comfort. Glad you enjoyed our comprehensive complimentary breakfast. We do monitor how many guests we are serving during breakfast sessions and during less busy times such as the end of breakfast swe do tend to replenish the items on offer on an "as needed" basis to avoid wastage. Glad you enjoyed your stay and we do hope to see you again in the future

An interesting stay as we did not get past the booking in stage at reception.
We had booked a double room for two nights with breakfast included.

Still at the time of writing this report, booking.com under property description states
"Full cooked breakfast is included in the room rate" together with more details of the nice breakfast.

We did receive an email form the hotel the day before our arrival to say that breakfast was not available due to covid. However we still went there as being booked just 24hrs in advance we were on the no cancellation tarrif.
However as our room rate included four breakfasts we were sure that the hotel would change our room bill. (from experience at similar grade hotels four breakfasts would normally be worth about £15 x 4 ie £60.) We were offered a total discount of £8 (off the £144 ie £136)

The two staff at the hotel were really nice but would not do anything for us regarding the loss of four breakfasts. We were given the use of a lounge to phone booking.com to arrange our own refund. Booking.com really helpful. Spoke to me, then spoke to reception, spoke to me again then I was not charged the £144 that had been put on my credit card.

The staff said it was up to me to get the property description changed on booking.com. I said to them the hotel should sort that out and not the customer.

The staff said the breakfasts were complementary rather than included so they did not have to do anything about it.

So as it turned out we cancelled our mini break and drove the 75miles home.

The hotel must have supplied 'Property description' to booking.com in the first place. They have still not changed it since our visit. I hope people see this review so they do no get caught out like we did.

I think this is an independent hotel. Such a shame we were not looked after.
One of my worst experiences at a hotel. I wish them all the best post covid but on this showing I do not hold out much hope for this hotel.

We certainly would not attempt to stay there again

Response from Kevin Wood, Owner at Elme Hall Hotel
Responded Sep 8, 2020
Dear Guest May I first point out that your description "interesting stay" is a little misleading. As you did not even stay at the hotel. It was yourself that decided to drive the "75 miles back home" and not experience what else the hotel could offer, all over a couple of breakfasts. Within the room and rate description on booking.com it did state that Breakfast or any other meals were not included in the rate. This was also made clear to you a second time when you contacted the hotel the day prior to your arrival, and it was explained to you why our usual breakfast service was suspended. However rather than cancel you took it upon yourself to drive 75 miles just to turn around and drive straight back again. And still, according to your review you still seem to be under the impression that your particular booking included four breakfasts. Both staff and guests have expressed concerns over social distancing during meal times and we felt it was not safe or practical to offer the complimentary buffet breakfast we usually offer and to allay any safety fears for our guests we found the safest and most practical solution was to suspend this service temporarily. Coronavirus is a very real threat from which many of us have personally suffered the effects in some manner, and do not take the risks involved trivially.. As explained, the breakfast at Elme Hall is complimentary, there is no charge or inclusion in the room rate. We certainly do not add £15 per breakfast to the room charge and I think it is unreasonable of you to assume you would get almost half of your total stay paid back as you were not able to have breakfast at the hotel. You were offered a slight discount made as a goodwill gesture, but this was flatly refused as if you were entitled to more. At no point were you told "Its up to you to get booking.com to change the description" and we have taken at look at the descriptions we have on 3rd party booking sites and have also made changes to further clarify any temporary changes in service we have in place. All through this time of uncertainty all the other guests have been very understanding of some of the restrictions that we have been forced to put in place and have been very happy with the services we have supplied. It is unfortunate for both parties that you considered breakfast to be the the sole reason for your visit and were not prepared to experience anything else we had to offer.

Just wanted a relaxing night away from home life with my wife but would have been happier at home.
The room was very small. The blind was broken and letting a lot of light in. The wet room floor did not drain away so the floor was covered in water the whole time. The TV was not working properly. The lights made almost no difference at night. Had an annoying green light glowing all night. Would have had better sound proofing in a cardboard box. Breakfast should have been included but we were told to go to morrisons cafe which obviously cost us more and the restaurant was closed so didn't get a hot meal. The hand basin was hanging off the wall. The toilet was constantly trickling. Every time anybody else flushed the toilet, ran the taps or let the water go it sounded like it was all going on in our room and there was nobody at the so called help desk. Will not return

On arrival told they were no longer serving breakfast, however they were still serving dinner could not make sense of that. No room rate reduction for the lack of breakfast'.
The hotel is looking dated and needs an update. The room was clean on the upside.
For the quality this hotel is overpriced, reception was often unmanned. I would not choose to stay at this hotel again,

If I could give this no stars I would. After a long day I arrived to find that I have to pay the room cost of £85 plus a deposit of £50 which I wasn't told about when I booked. Then I have to wait for someone to check the room before I leave so I can get my £50 deposit back
Then I was informed that the restaurant is closed so there is no food available and we have a 20 minute walk to the nearest place to get food, just what you need after a 15 hour work day.
On top of all this they are refurbing the place so there is mess everywhere. The only good thing about this place is that it is warm.
Will definitely NOT be back

Staying away for work, I’m in a different hotel every night, this has been the worst by far. Room 140, neither WiFi worked on any of my devices, the heater stopped working and it was bitterly cold and to top it off there wasn’t even a duvet on the bed, just blankets and sheets. Called reception regarding the WiFi and was told it would be fixed in the morning, not helpful at all as I needed it that evening. Awful stay, would not recommend.

I booked one nights stay here in order to care for my terminally ill mother living in Wisbech. The day before the planned stay my mother was taken to a hospice 25 miles away, therefore I needed to be nearer her and asked for a refund. This was refused as it was against their refund policy. Hotel has no compassion. Other hotel I had booked for other nights have fully refunded. Poor show Elme a hall.

Never ever stay here under any circumstances! Stayed here with work for a meeting and the whole experience was awful.
We checked in and the booking was made and paid for by our company, myself with a UK passport was told o didn’t need to leave a Card for security, my colleague was told she did…. After presenting a non UK passport.

They then informed us that the breakfast ( pre paid) was no longer available due to staffing issues

Aside from this the rooms were small, dirty (mould in kettle and just a general awful experience
