We only had a brief overnight stay on the way to the Lakes, but we were given a very warm welcome. A well laid out kitchen & dining area and an excellent breakfast with the supporting act of red squirrels through the big window.

Thank you for your very nice review! We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay and hope your return visit is just as good! The squirrels have been primed for more breakfast time antics to keep guests amused!

blown away by lovely people, never stayed in a youth hostel before, these people took the concept of hospitality and help fullness further . Wish I was there tonight. Good luck guys. Each one of the owners impressed me with their wit and friendliness

Thank you so much for your very kind words! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us and made your first experience of a youth hostel a positive one!!

From a very friendly welcome, to the superbly clean rooms, this is everything a hostel should be. The breakfast was freshly cooked for each guest and was excellent. Although this hostel is within the YHA network, it is privately owned and run as a YHA franchise. Presumably this is why it stands head and shoulders above most hostels. If only...

Dear Pete. Thank you for taking the time to leave us such lovely feedback after your stay with us! We do work hard to keep our hostel clean and welcoming but it makes it all worth while when we get such nice comments from our guests! Because we own the hostel we do take a lot of pride in creating...

My first return to a youth hostel sincel I started hostelling in 1963. ( bye the bye anybody remember "Nunk." from those days at Exeter YHA?) Ahh! those were the days when wardens were ex-prison wardens from Borstals and one had to do your daily tasks on pain of death or worse! Anyway things have changed in the interim and...

Thank you for your lovely comments and amusing reminisces of by-gone days of harder times in Youth Hostels! Hopefully those days are long gone! It is always lovely to welcome people back and dish out a bit of 'coddling' (especially if they are gold prospectors!!). Don't forget there is still plenty more gold in them there hills so hope to...

I love youth hostels and it is sad that this one (vital for the Pennine Way) was sold by the YHA. Thankfully, three lovely people bought it who clearly value this type of hostel. All of us staying got a great welcome and the facilities are excellent, even down to the talking front door (I kid you not!). It also...

We stayed there last week and staff were very friendly. We accidentally left behind a kindle and before we had even missed it they had called us offering to send it back. On top of this the hostel was comfortable clean convenient and good value for money.

Thank You Paul. I'm pleased to know your Kindle was delivered back to you safely. It's amazing what items are accidentally left behind by our guests. From clothing to compasses and even the odd walking pole !! As soon as a guest checks out, we try to do a 'room sweep' to ensure nothing is left and if we find...

Following our first day on the c2c, this was a great half way point. We managed to lock our bikes up securely, greeted by friendly staff and even a drying room for our (very wet) clothes. They were brilliant with providing us with a dorm to ourselves as well as a 2 course breakfast for just £5.50. Cheap stay in...

Thank You Ben. We know how wet and cold it can be - cycling up and down Hartside in the wind and rain - even in Summer!. Our warm drying room has, yet again, proved to be popular with our new arrivals. We were happy to offer you the room to yourselves as it just happened to be vacant that...

This was by far the best Bunkhouse type premises we stayed in along the entire Pennine Way. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful ( ie arranged for an Outdoor Clothing Shop to open in the evening especially so that one of our group could buy some new boots ). The Youth Hostel is very well designed with a kitchen...

Wow! High praise indeed! Thank you very much. We will also pass on your comments to the owner of 'The Pennine Outdoor' shop too. She will be so pleased to know she helped you out so you could go on your way with a suitable pair of boots. She often opens at short notice if she knows she can help...

Booked easily into the hostel in advance, and selected to have the breakfast. It had been a number of years since I had last been in a YHA hostel, so was not too sure what to expect with cleaning, chores, sheet sleeping bags etc. However, found no sheet sleeping bag and the only chore was to strip the duvet cover,...

Thank you for your review Vince. I am pleased you found your stay with us to be more relaxing than you anticipated. We appreciate any guests who help us out with any chores but this is no longer a condition of staying in a Youth Hostel - thank goodness. We hope you will visit us again sometime, you will be...

We got a lovely warm welcome at the hostel, even though we ended up coming in quite late. Close to everything, and a little walking path. Everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Breakfast in the morning was delicious - very filling! We would definitely come by again!!
