The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the hills around the Borrowdale valley. Our room was clean, spacious and well appointed. The evening meals were well presented and very tasty and the breakfast set us up for a days walking. The menu choice for breakfast and evening meal was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

For Part of our beautiful Valentines weekend, we visited Borrowdale Hotel for afternoon tea. A beautiful setting in the Lake District complimented by log fires and was looking forward to an afternoon of relaxation. I was deeply shocked and appalled at the lack of professionalism shown by our server, Charlie. The cutlery was set down on the table, with no...

Have stayed at this hotel on three occasionsand thoroughly enjoyed each stay. As I have poor mobility we had a disabled friendly room with walk in shower and hand grips which was excellent. We were in a Prestige Room which was also dog friendly and opened on to the outside veranda area. Food excellent and you would not know this...

I and the family stopped here on our way to Keswick for a bite to eat. There was a roaring fire going to get us warm and we all ordered food. My beef sandwich with a side order of chips was just the job! Excellent I cannot speak to highly about the quality of the food and reasonably priced. Well...

Pleasant hotel. caters for more mature guest predominantly 60+++. Enjoyed hotel but our room was close to the stairs so woken by guests coming and going late at night and early every morning . Also at stairs is housekeeping office and this again meant you were woken early by guests being greeted by staff. if I returned I would not...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled at the foot of Shepherd's Crag in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale, this completely refurbished 4 Star hotel has a totally unique atmosphere enveloping the visitors from the moment they arrive. Warm and welcoming fires in the Winter and cool drinks and Lakeland cream teas on the lawns in the Summer served with a smile. Built in 1866, the Borrowdale Hotel has an interesting history with the original 41 room bells, which, although no longer working, are still proudly displayed outside the reception area. The restaurant has been refurbished to a very high standard and is very elegant and comfortable. It also now boasts a superb walk-in wine cellar stocked with some very interesting bottles. During the day the lounge bar and conservatory are open for light lunches and afternoon teas and in the evening a splendid 5 course silver service dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant with coffee and mints served in the lounges. The 40 cosy bedrooms have all been refurbished within the last 3 years all have TV, telephone and hospitality tray. There are also 2 extra large, easy-access rooms too. If you are arriving or leaving on a Sunday make sure not to miss the famous Sunday lunch - it is well worth trying, but remember to book your table well in advance, as it is particular popular with both locals and residents. For those looking for dog friendly hotels, all of our bedrooms are dog friendly and are available for well behaved dogs. Please contact reservations for information about our dog friendly accommodation. ... more   less
