What a lovely weekend at this hotel. The hotel is set in lovely grounds with several walks easily accessible from reception. The rooms are smaller than a standard hotel but they are finished to a high standard with new bathrooms and very comfy furniture. The service in the hotel is top notch and staff go out of their way to...

Stayed at the Borrowdale on one of their special offered during February. We arrived around five o'clock on the Friday evening, and were taken up to a lovely room at the front of the hotel. It was clean, comfortable and spacious. We went down to the cosy bar for pre-dinner drinks and then moved on to the dining room for...

We have just returned from a lovely two night break at The Borrowdale Hotel, where we stayed with friends. We had a warm and friendly welcome and all the staff throughout the hotel were excellent. The bar and conservatory were both lovely places in which to relax and enjoy time with our friends. The restaurant was very well run and...

Great location, the hotel staff were efficient and friendly, a lovely and very warm bar area with a separate sitting area and generally a nice atmosphere. The restaurant food was of a high quality and good standard and a...

I stayed here for Dinner/Bed/Breakfast with my Partner for 2 nights over Valentine's Day. The room (No.2) was lovely and cosy. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable so we both slept very well. Bathroom was spotless with a hot & powerful shower. The hotel staff were helpful, friendly and very welcoming. The food at dinner was absolutely fantastic. One...

Stayed here for two nights with Dinner Bed and Breakfast for my Wifes 60th birthday. To be honest our Room number 2 had recently been refurbished and was spacious, well furnished with a lovely bathroom and a huge bed. The bar area is very cosy with two warm gas fires leading onto a large conservatory, small well kept garden area...

My wife found an offer for this hotel and we signed up for dinner, bed and breakfast. What a great experience! A traditional hotel with thick carpets and a multitude of rooms. Muddy boots and shoes were lined up by the door as we came in. Our room was lovely, spacious, warm and comfortable. We had an early dinner in...

The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the hills around the Borrowdale valley. Our room was clean, spacious and well appointed. The evening meals were well presented and very tasty and the breakfast set us up for a days walking. The menu choice for breakfast and evening meal was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled at the foot of Shepherd's Crag in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale, this completely refurbished 4 Star hotel has a totally unique atmosphere enveloping the visitors from the moment they arrive. Warm and welcoming fires in the Winter and cool drinks and Lakeland cream teas on the lawns in the Summer served with a smile. Built in 1866, the Borrowdale Hotel has an interesting history with the original 41 room bells, which, although no longer working, are still proudly displayed outside the reception area. The restaurant has been refurbished to a very high standard and is very elegant and comfortable. It also now boasts a superb walk-in wine cellar stocked with some very interesting bottles. During the day the lounge bar and conservatory are open for light lunches and afternoon teas and in the evening a splendid 5 course silver service dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant with coffee and mints served in the lounges. The 40 cosy bedrooms have all been refurbished within the last 3 years all have TV, telephone and hospitality tray. There are also 2 extra large, easy-access rooms too. If you are arriving or leaving on a Sunday make sure not to miss the famous Sunday lunch - it is well worth trying, but remember to book your table well in advance, as it is particular popular with both locals and residents. For those looking for dog friendly hotels, all of our bedrooms are dog friendly and are available for well behaved dogs. Please contact reservations for information about our dog friendly accommodation. ... more   less
