Attended the hotel xmas party and decided to stay over. Great night, wonderful food and a lovely cosy room with one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have ever slept in. Next morning a perfect breakfast to get us going. A brilliant weekend.

Stayed for my birthday in August and it was super. We enjoyed a drink in the garden in the sunshine, then went into the dining room for a delicious meal and took the wine flight option, which we thought excellent value. Location beautiful, staff great, good food, just perfect. We intended to go again for our anniversary but left it...

My partner and I booked the Borrowdale hotel for our anniversary and we were not disappointed. The rooms were cosy and smart with a stunning view! It was very warm in the room but the heating could be adjusted accordingly. We went for the managers offer of a 4 course dinner and the food and service was spot on. Silver...

Stayed for two nights, 27th / 28th Nov 2016, and once again had a fabulous short break with friends. Possibly the best 3 star hotel in the UK!!! The food served at dinner is amazing, all four of us had different dishes, each dish was fabulous in presentation and even better in taste. The meals could not be improved.

We had a pleasant greeting in reception and were allocated a room on the second floor with great views. The room was spacious and included armchairs and a table, and had a single bed in a separate room (which we didn't use). The hotel exudes a calm atmosphere. We had quiet drinks in the bar before dinner. The service in...

We have been visiting the Borrowdale Hotel for a few years now, having found for us the ideal spot in the Lake District. The Borrowdale valley is for me the most beautiful part of the lakes, with access to the fells, or if the weather is inclement (or you do not feel quite so energetic), a steadier walk along the...

Had an email from Secret Escapes with an offer for this hotel very close to where we usually stay in Borrowdale at a brilliant price so went for 3 days Dinner Bed and Breakfast and took the dog too. Could not have been more pleased despite a terrible journey up the M6 and the forecast of snow while there. The...

We spent 2 nights here on our first trip to the Lake District not realizing that it was a gourmet venue. We had a comfortable room wined and dined superbly well and found that we were in easy reach of all the places that we wished to visit. If you do not want to get into a car there are...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled at the foot of Shepherd's Crag in the beautiful valley of Borrowdale, this completely refurbished 4 Star hotel has a totally unique atmosphere enveloping the visitors from the moment they arrive. Warm and welcoming fires in the Winter and cool drinks and Lakeland cream teas on the lawns in the Summer served with a smile. Built in 1866, the Borrowdale Hotel has an interesting history with the original 41 room bells, which, although no longer working, are still proudly displayed outside the reception area. The restaurant has been refurbished to a very high standard and is very elegant and comfortable. It also now boasts a superb walk-in wine cellar stocked with some very interesting bottles. During the day the lounge bar and conservatory are open for light lunches and afternoon teas and in the evening a splendid 5 course silver service dinner can be enjoyed in the restaurant with coffee and mints served in the lounges. The 40 cosy bedrooms have all been refurbished within the last 3 years all have TV, telephone and hospitality tray. There are also 2 extra large, easy-access rooms too. If you are arriving or leaving on a Sunday make sure not to miss the famous Sunday lunch - it is well worth trying, but remember to book your table well in advance, as it is particular popular with both locals and residents. For those looking for dog friendly hotels, all of our bedrooms are dog friendly and are available for well behaved dogs. Please contact reservations for information about our dog friendly accommodation. ... more   less
