Detailed Reviews
This place certainly doesn't have the decor of a top class restaurant, it is far removed from the uniformity of a chain pub. What it does offer is personal service which is extremely friendly, it also serves what is probably the best Thai food that I have ever tasted. Yes, it could do with a refurb, but if you can look past that you'll be rewarded with delicious, fresh, authentic food and a warm welcome.

This pub is in need of a refurb in places but is clean, serves good beer and food. Landlord is friendly and a real character. We loved it. The Thai menu is extensive and the food is lovely, they had lots if vegan options for me. Including vegan wines.

Don't be put off by the exterior of this place .
Yes it does look dated , yes it does look like it's been a large hotel / restaurant in the past , but does it do great Thai food ? Yes it does !
This is not the place to go if you are in a hurry , but , you can spend time with a nice pint having a chat with Mike the friendly landlord . Ok so his jokes aren't that good but at least he makes the effort to ensure all his customers are happy .
The food made by Anna is the best Thai food that we have ever tasted .
Generous portions and sensible prices . She appears to put her heart and soul into each and every dish and the flavours are awesome .
It just goes to show , you shouldn't judge a book by its cover !
We will certainly be eating here again when we are next in the area .

We came for a Sunday carvery as we were visiting lowther Castle.. .having never been before I just expected your normal British pub.
We came as a family 2 adults and 2 children. As we walked in we were met with that horrendous floral carpet and old damp smell, by then it was already too late, we had been suckered in by the owner who seems like a very nice man I will say. He reminded me of Jordans dad in the wolf of Wall Street.
The place is very run down, not updated from the 70s maybe, it had a very function room feel, cold, no background music, damp, dirty. Do not use the toilets if you decide to go, absolutly filthy, mouldy walls, tiles falling off stains everywhere. There was quite a few Thai ladies who were in the kitchen and serving the carvery.
So we had to pay upfront for our meals and drinks, not an issue. Two adult carveies, two children's carveries, two cokes and a pint of carling... Came to £60!!! Wowee I would expect to pay this in an upmarket pub, but not in faulty towers!! After doing some quick sums we realised we had been overcharged £12, the owner gave us our £12 back and we proceeded to get our carveries.
The meats looked fantastic by eye, but eating them was a different story, very fatty in all cases. The roast potatoes looked like they had been cooked under a heat lamp, no colour and rock hard, everything else was OK, frozen veg and Yorkshires. Mash was decent and gravy decent, it wasn't fantastic but it wasn't inedible either.
Over all the place is a dive, the food is OK, but not worth £13 a carvery. The owners should consider closing down and refurbing the place if they can and give it a really good clean. I wouldn't return, but we had a good laugh about it afterwards.

I have given a rating of 1 as the food was very good and the Thai food was authentic. However I was deeply concerned as to the cleanliness and upkeep of the kitchen based on the state of the rest of the place!
The building is in need of maintenance and a deep clean. The tables are so sticky you're glass won't fall over and as your shoes stick to the floor I would recommend shoes that are fastened on!
The bedrooms are basic - the mattress was so thin you could feel the bed slats through it. The ensuite is a bath, no shower or even an attachment to the bath taps. Don't move anything unless you've brought cleaning products. Thankfully the kettle was clean and I believe the sheets and towels were new.
There was no breakfast so check before booking.
There is no sound proofing in the rooms and we could hear the owners conversation after closing. As for the owners they need an injection of enthusiasm and positivity!
This could be a great place especially as the food was tasty.

Stopped for lunch here and was so disappointed by the low standards of hygiene and cleanliness. The menus were covered in food products, the tables were sticky and the whole ambience was that of a run down pub. We ordered cheese and ham toasties ( no paninis available) which for ear on £9 with a side of half a packet of crisps was a ripoff. The ham had an odour and the cheese wasn’t melted properly. My lemonade glass had lipstick mark on from a previous customer ( thankfully I haven’t caught covid yet!!)
We complained to the manager who was more interested in talking on his mobile phone than deal with customers… albeit only one other customer there too which speaks volumes. Would not recommend this place in a million year!!

Take no notice of the detractors. This pub is unpretentious, traditional (not the slick contemporary, hipster version) and serves a standard of food that would be raved about, if it were served in a flash, city high street. Don’t be put off by appearances, get yerselves in, be adventurous in your ordering and enjoy a far east/northern England experience!

Stayed the night in our motorhome in the car park and ate in this restaurant. Really delicious Thai food, even the egg noodles were very flavoursome. Could almost have treated them as a course on their own. But wouldn't have missed the yummy lamb in garlic and ginger either! Very friendly staff. Food obviously cooked from scratch and therefore worth a bit of a wait. Overall we highly recommend and will use this stopover again in future.

Paid for my grandparents to stay here as a birthday present for my grandma. Room was disgusting and more than outdated. Didn't look like it had even been cleaned from the previous guests. Bedding was dirty and ripped. The bin was overflowing with rubbish. Landlord was rude and wasn't interested in putting things right. He had been paid so he was happy to take our money. He refused to even have a conversation about the state of the room or discuss a refund. My grandma is now feeling poorly and on her way home with no holiday. DO NOT STAY AT THIS "HOTEL" Its not even fit for a dog to stay in.
