A comfortable and very hospitable hostel. Everything you need on a walking holiday - a friendly welcome, warm, comfortable beds, hot showers and good food. We were well catered for as vegans. Sweet potato curry a highlight. Would definitely stay again. Just sorry you close through the winter.

I enjoyed my camping stay. I camped on flat ground, a little higgle/piggle to get pegs in, but great place across a small bridge, secluded, with my friends who shared the plot. We had total access to hostel, day and night...........and the self catering kitchen was good. [took a knife outside to sharpen on a stone though, as was a... More

Great that you enjoyed your camping pitch. We've been putting a lot of thought and work into developing the camping area so that the campers can get a nice pitch with some space and privacy. The cost for the camping pitches are the same throughout the year but beds and family rooms in the hostel do vary between times of... More

Just what you would expect from a YHA walkers retreat in the Lakes. Friendly, clean, relaxed and accommodating. Perfect access to the Scar Fell Pike which was a 6-7 hour round trip walk from. Flexible food options including access to a kitchen if required. Morning breakfast was great.

Stayed for 3 nights in August in tent. Staff are welcoming and helpful - thank you Mick, Rachel, Fiona and Kirsten. Refreshing that there is no TV and guests engage in conversation. Beautiful location. For me this is what a YHA should be about.

If you are looking for somewhere to stay, I would definitely recommend staying here. This was my first time staying in a youth hostel and I was very impressed. Comfortable, clean and friendly staff. Dorms are made up of 4 sets of bunk beds, male and female with family rooms available if required. Relax in the lounge or dinning area... More

I visited here with a group in July for the first time. The Manager was really great and went out of her way to accommodate us with an early breakfast. The kitchens are very well equipped and spacious communal areas. The outside grounds are well maintained and you would not know it was a hostel apart from the sign. The... More

This was a really nice stay, the staff were kind and welcoming. Even better after informing them we would be arising after the doors closed they arranged for us to have a code and key. Truly excellent customer service. Fair warning there was very little to no mobile signal and they don't have wifi as far as we could see.

Using the satnav it was very easy to find, surrounded by wonderful countryside and views (with a few pubs in walking distance). Not a huge space for parking but you'll find somewhere to squeeze your car. The building is lovely, homely and welcoming. There is no mobile phone signal or internet access- there is a pay phone and wifi at... More

clean, comfortable and quiet even though there was lots of people staying. Was a bit miffed to have to pay 1.50 for a cup of the weakest tea I have ever had.. my own fault for forgetting to bring my own tea bags! Also was surprised to find that I was unable to drink my own bottles of beer so... More

Loved the setting of the hostel although coming over Hardknott Pass was a hairy experience. It was set in lovely gardens with a pond and nature trail. Grassy area at the front for ball games. We had a meal on Friday night which was very good. The staff kindly kept one meal warm for a latecomer who found the pass... More
