A quirky architectural lodge hidden on the outskirts of the village. Perfectly functional, if a little damp rooms. Shared bathrooms in decent YHA condition. And a decent meal upstairs in the impressive lounge. Really helpful staff on hand, and can make you a great packed lunch if requested.

Patterdale used to be the cinderella of all the Lakeland YHAs - but now it has been comfortably refurbished throughout. We really enjoyed our stay, very good breakfast and comfortable beds. It rained into one of the toilets during the night so got a bit flooded - but did not detract from the weekend.

We generally dealt with Ellie who was amazing, you have a good one there, nothing was too much trouble, always a smile and fantastic communication skills, you have a good one there and a great ambassador for the YHA. Also a big thanks to the rest of the team a lovely breakfast a top weekend.

First time at Patterdale. A large, modern hostel which is warm, clean and well equipped. The meet and greet is second to none, Ellie and her team are great hosts, and the customer service is what you would expect to get from a 5 * hotel. Food is great, the breakfasts are excellent value, porridge, full english, fresh fruit, cheese,...

So well run and welcoming. Loved it. Have not been to the lakes for years. Climbed the fell behind the hostel. Was like being in heaven and looking down on planet earth, distant dogs barking and cars and houses looking like toys.

short review - very good hostel - modern, etc - good to see young staff on duty - plenty of space, good kitchen, common room, close to pubs, walks - maybe could leave off lights outsie dorms at night, as it does disturb the sleep a bit - very good all round though

The YHA team here deserve a commendation for the first-rate way this hostel is run: clean and tidy at all times; everything functioning well; and suppers served the traditional YHA way with guests around a large table so it's possible to relate the day's experiences. Always a good night's sleep here, and the breakfast spread is excellent. Good wi-fi signal...

My wife and I stayed here the night before the Helvellyn Triathlon. The accommodation was perfect for our needs, the faciities ideal and the staff friendly and welcoming. For a Youth Hostel you could not ask for more. When revisiting the Lake District we fully intend to go back here.

Was pleasantly surprised with this YHA. Beds were great, clean and really comfortable not to mention good for taller people! Breakfast was tasty and welcoming. Womens shower rooms need attention re midges and flies I was nearly eaten alive in the shower by them. The car park was also chocca as there's a campsite too so more spaces would be...
