A nice and traditional sprawling pub, set in a nice countryside location in Derbyshire. Also has it's own brewery, with Gold a reasonable and light session-ale. Service was good for our party. However the lodges which a number of us hired were not clean, despite the staff's claims that they had been cleaned. Clearly they hadn't. Cobwebs, dust etc. Also...

Hadn't been to the JT for over 25 years ( last time on a first date with my now hubby ! ) and it was just how I remembered. Cosy log fires and candles everywhere- a proper pub, great atmosphere and great beer.

At very short notice, the JT reserved a part of the pub for us to hold a 60th birthday party (very civilised!) They arranged a buffet for us and friends and family visited from all over the country. Everyone was overwhelmed by the friendly welcome, the quality of the buffet and the pub in general. A great evening and the...

We stopped for two nights in one of the John Thompson lodges. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this spacious and well appointed, (views fantastic) accommodation. The lodge had everything one would need for a relaxing break away. A free of charge welcome pack of milk, butter, bread, cereals, biscuits, tea and coffee awaited us and after our 150 mile...

Was very comfortable here. The chalet is bright and airy, with a "great room" including kitchen facilities. The room is stocked with basic food items like bread, butter, milk, tea coffee, and breakfast bars. It was a great way to start the day on the front porch with my hot tea. The sofa was a sleeper, so the rooms could...

Second week running! Last week we took friends who'd never been and they loved it. This week we realised we needed to get beer brewing so popped over for a JT beer kit and it only seemed polite to have lunch as well. Roast Beef, Yorkshires and all the veg and gravy followed by Bread & Butter Pudding. So utterly...

Stayed here for 2 nights in the summer and it was really great. Clean cabins with everything you might need and the bed was SO comfortable. Lovely old fashioned pub too with a fantastic interior. We didn't get chance to eat there but wish we had. There's a lovely walk we found which I'd recommend that starts in the John...

This is a very nice pub to visit, just about one mile up the road by the river Trent at Swarkstone. It has a good sized well laid out carpark with gardens and outside seating. Inside it is very clean, in a old country style with polished shining brass ware. We found the staff to be welcoming and obliging. The...
