We met some friends here for dinner – they knew the Rose & Crown and recommended the experience.

From the moment we arrived everything was good. The lady who met us at the door was charming, checked our temperatures and explained the Covid precautions in place at the restaurant. At my request she arranged for us to be seated at a large table so we could socially distance from our friends.

We noticed that all staff were wearing masks and generally managed to keep their distance when bring food or drinks to the table. Another reviewer has remarked that their table was slightly sticky – so was ours and we assumed that this is because it had been disinfected before we arrived.

Our waitress – Hannah Gordon – was a delight – charming, bubbly and full of fun. She helped one of our friends with his menu choice because he is gluten intolerant – no problem, everything was sorted.

The menu had excellent choices - my wife and I shared a starter (soused herring) and then enjoyed the house burger and chicken supreme. All the food was excellent and good size portions.

Together with 2 glasses of wine and 2 pints of shandy the bill came to £62 plus a well-earned tip.

I have one tiny suggestion – the toilets were very clean and well-managed, but it would be an added benefit if tissues were provided inside to use when opening the door and a receptacle outside for disposal of the tissue. We have seen this elsewhere and it is a sensible precaution.

I wish Trip Advisor allowed for the provision of six stars for exceptional service.
Thank you to all staff at the Rose and Crown.

I only have praise for the R&C in these wretched times. Stayed 4 nights with friends and we were all commenting so positively on our entire stay. The R&C is in a quiet location, my room was large for the age of the building, with what looked like a "Queen" size bed but still left plenty of space for sitting and clothes space. This room had a good size bath with shower and WC. There were tea/coffee facilities as well. Room make up was optional. The room was quiet even though it overlooked the large car park.
The staff were fantastic throughout - really made the stay I feel.
Covid 19 has limited the food options but breakfast was still excellent as were the three evening meals we had there seated in different areas of the building. There is also a good walled garden area to enjoy a drink/meal with a marquee area.
I thoroughly recommend the R&C as a hotel/restaurant and as a base to explore the local area and coastline.

Very friendly, polite and helpful staff; everyone made us feel very welcome. Very comfortable family room (‘The Loft’) which had everything we needed. Meals were very good: Paella, curry, childs’ sausage and chips and fish and chips were all very nice. Our children are 2 and 4 so one portion between them both was more than enough. Breakfast was also lovely; staff very accommodating and you could have pretty much whatever you wished for breakfast. Handy to have the local coop literally round the corner. Staff allowed us to keep our bikes in the staff lock-up over night which was very kind. Being in ‘The Loft’ room directly beneath the bar was a bit noisy until later (to be expected) so was difficult to get children to sleep. Would request a room nearer the back of the pub next time. All in all a very pleasant stay (although a little pricey for the room and food) Thank you.

As dining pub of the year in Norfolk we had high expectations. However, our table was in a very bright dining room lacking any atmosphere with garish orange curtains and cheap sticky pine tables. There was no ambience whatsoever and it felt like we were in the breakfast room of a hotel rather than in an ancient , character full pub. The menu was overly weighted in favour of fish dishes , with either a steak, burger or curry as the meat options. Not very exciting choices. The pea feta and mint fritter starter was overcooked and dry with zero flavour. The veggie paella was huge and very dull . The puddings were ok but overpriced and not finished off very well. For example the cherry bake well was basically an almond slice with 2 halves of black cherries and a mini brûlée. It
should have had a coulis or dash of chocolate sauce to compliment the cherries and cut through the dryness. The service was friendly but a bit erratic. The table next to us asked for a bottle of wine twice which never arrived and they gave up in the end. Overall very disappointing food and setting, we wouldn’t recommend it.

Having been recommended here by a few people we were really looking forward to our Sunday lunch. We arrived early were checked in very carefully during these Covid times with details and temperatures taken, queued to be checked in and were given menus. After a while the waitress came to ask for both our drink and food order and tell us there were no roast dinners left, at 3.30! Asked if we wanted something else the only thing we wanted had also run out of one of the key ingredients. Apparently if you want a roast dinner you must reserve it! No one mentioned this on ordering. Needless to say we left having eaten nothing and very disappointed.

After a very difficult year we wanted somewhere relaxed, friendly and welcoming. Having stayed at the Rose and Crown twice before we knew just where we wanted to be! We were lucky to be able to book our favourite ‘Green room’ and as usual we received a very warm welcome. Our evening meals were excellent and breakfast is delicious with plenty of items to choose from. The service is exemplary throughout, Nothing is too much trouble to make your stay comfortable! The young staff are attentive, very polite and helpful. There is a lovely garden to sit and eat in and the dinning rooms are carefully managed with tables spread out and plenty of fresh air so you feel safe with all the covid precautions taken. We look forward to coming back again for another stay!

This was our first visit to the charming and traditional Rose and Crown staying for 5 nights with another couple and I can't recommend it highly enough. Well run by Anthony and Janette, everything was as you would expect; attentive, friendly staff who go out of their way to assist, delightful bedroom with comfortable beds and pillows and the spacious, spotlessly clean bathroom with bath and enormous shower. Hairdryer is supplied as well as a convenient guest fridge on the landing and availability of an iron from the friendly housekeeper. Breakfast is simple with something for everyone; fresh fruit, compote, chef's own granola and good choice of cooked. We ate most nights at the hotel, enjoying the best calamari I have ever tasted. The location of the hotel is convenient for beaches and other attractions, a highlight was returning to the hotel for an evening drink in the large garden well frequented by locals which is always a good sign of a well liked establishment. It was a lovely change to stay in a hotel of such good value that clearly believes in making guests feel warmly welcomed.

We had a two night break to explore the North Norfolk area and chose to stay at the Rose and Crown based on recommends from various sites. The pub itself is a typical old country pub with bags of character and popular with visitors and locals alike. On arrival, check-in was quick and efficient with very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was warm, fairly spacious and spotlessly clean. It had obviously been recently decorated as it was in very good order. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linen/towels were good quality. The "tea tray" was well stocked with fresh milk available in a fridge outside in the corridor. A couple of small things, there was nowhere to hang outdoor coats so a couple of coat hooks wouldn't have gone amiss. Also, there was nowhere in the bathroom to put toothbrushes, wash bags etc, so again a small shelf near the wash basin would have been useful.
We ate in the pub for both nights and the food was very good indeed...and plenty of it! The only blip being the chicken breast meat in the Masala was very dry - but the sauce was delicious. Breakfast was again very good with plenty of choice. It's a shame on the Sunday morning we had to wait 40 minutes to get served which took the edge off the experience somewhat.
Throughout our visit, all of the staff were superb - friendly, polite and nothing appeared to be too much trouble.
Overall, a lovely place to stay and would recommend it as a place to stay and eat.

Rooms were clean and tidy with fancy names, but no character / bit basic which for the price was disappointing. Unfortunately there was no air in the room due to a tiny window restricting ventilation and was unbearably hot even though outside was cooler. My husband ended up going to sleep in the car whilst I laid on a wet towel.

We ate at the restaurant twice. The first time they forgot our meal and ended up giving us a bottle of wine on the house. The second time we waited ages for the food to arrive. Most of the staff are teenagers and need training. A young girl served whisky and coke to us in a branded coke glass with a slice of lime which is ok but not premium.

One good thing was the breakfast. My husband said it was one of the nicest cooked breakfasts he had ever eaten. The food we ate in the evening was also nice and generous portions.

Just a bit too expensive for the overall experience.

Myself and my husband were camping nearby and fancied some pub lunch. We were worried that we wouldn’t be able to get a table due to having our dog with us but the staff were so accommodating, they found us a table outside and quickly took our drinks and food order. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.

The pub are currently taking temperatures of their guests on arrival and adhering to the track and trace system, which was fantastic to see.

If we camp locally again, we will definitely be returning.
