It is a lovely typical old fashioned house set in a beautiful garden if you can find it :) There is no road sign for the B&B so it was a bit of a guess where to turn off. The owners are of a respectful age and cooked us a lovely dinner which we enjoyed together with them in the dining room. The room is spacious as is the bathroom and it feels you are really their house guest, books everywhere, a piano, crockery collections...
We had quite a few things in common but it can become a bit awkward if you have nothing to talk about and your are having dinner together with your hosts. The dinner also doesn't come cheap. 35.00 per person is a lot more than you would pay in the pub in Thirsk (a few miles down the road) but again, the food was very good.

Hospitable, helpful and friendly owners. Beautiful accommodation. No-holds barred on the breakfast. Ideal location for those who want to be away from daily grind or looking to do things in Thirsk or surrounding area. Took us 3 hours to get there from Junction 10 on M25

My daughter and I stayed in Spital Hill in October and I have to say the stay was very memorable. We were made very welcome with tea and home made buscuits served in the palour soon after arrival. The rooms didn't have any 'mod-cons' thank goodness...and the breakfast was to-die-for! It felt like home from home and would not hesitate to go back.

Robin and Ann made us so welcome in their comfortable traditional home, dinner with them and two other guests celebrating a birthday was like a dinner party with old friends, the meal was delicious, home cooked food with style... They could teach many restaurants a thing or two! The large bedroom, complete with piano, was extremely comfortable with enough interesting books to make one wish the stay was for a year not a night. Next morning we managed a delicious cooked breakfast, not one but three homemade marmalades to have on Ann's sodabread toast. We kept going all the way to our next destination with only water and did not need any meal till the evening. Don't expect tv or radio in your bedroom, here you can just escape and relax, or chat to other guests in the comfortable drawing room. For a lovely house and charming hosts look no further.

Spital Hill is the best place We've ever been in the United Kingdom. Rooms are cozy and very clean. Furniture is the perfect exaple of classical English style. We'd had delicious breakfast and dinners.
Ann and Robin had been so very nice to us...

Wow! I have to say i was looking for six stars for each of the categories listed. The house is amazing and the antiques and books are a dream. The hosting is outstanding, nothing is too much trouble; not only did they get in veggie sausages for us but we actually had a choice! The breakfast really was superb, the homemade marmalades were all lovely and the cooked breakfast was an excellent veggie one and i imagine the carnivore one would be great too. Overall i cannot recommend this house and its owners highly enough, come on how many places can you stay and have a piano in your bedroom!
