We stayed at Garbutt Farm as a last minute decision to spend some time in the lovely Vale of York area for the August bank holiday. Despite calling on the off chance of accommodation on the Friday afternoon, we were pleased to find a double room available for 2 evenings. Very easy to find, straight off Sutton Bank, the farm offers a private courtyard where stables have been converted into individual, nicely appointed rooms, with en suite and basic amenities. Nicely decorated, very warm and a good comfy bed....all you need after a long day walking. We really enjoyed both the location and the warm hospitality of the owners. A fabulous cooked breakfast each morning that really did set you up for the day! As the farm breed longhorn cattle, we were also able to purchase a cracking piece of beef for a roast when we got home! If you are wanting to walk the Cleveland Way or just fancy a stopover in this part of the Dales, this is an ideal base. An excellent place, we thoroughly recommend it.

We stayed at Garbutt Farm for a night with our dog and we were all greeted by some other dogs!
Our room was very spacious and clean. The surrounding area is beautiful and it is so quiet and peaceful. At breakfast our dog was welcome to come along and enjoy our full english with us! The owner's dogs were also at breakfast, which our dog enjoyed!
We would recommend this farm to people with and without dogs alike.

We stayed here for our first night stop when walking the Cleveland Way. Unfortunately the bus from the Yorkshire Moors national park centre nearby at Sutton Bank to Helmsley has ceased operating and so kindly the bed and breakfast owner took us down to Helmsley in her car so we could start the walk. The accommodation is in separate motel like apartments with their own front door. They were basic but quite adequate. The cooked breakfast was excellent with home farm eggs. There are not many choices of places to stay in this area and we would recommend this bed and breakfast. Bear in mind that if you do not have your own transport that the nearbt Hambleton Inn does not provide evening meals every day and there is nowhere else close to eat in the evening.

I only stayed for one night during my Cleveland Way walk but this would be good for a longer stay. My room was large, clean and modern with a decent shower. This is a working farm and the breakfast is great - I went for the scrambled eggs because the hens outside had supplied them - quite superb. Also 4 very friendly dogs make you feel very welcome.

Just back from a weeks holiday in “The cottage” on Garbutt farm, the cottage was beautiful in a beautiful location, there was homemade cakes and fresh milk waiting for me, perfect after a long drive from Scotland, I would recommend the cottage and North Yorkshire to anyone looking for a nice relaxing break, I can’t wait to return , and I will one day

I stayed here with a friend whilst doing the Cleveland Way earlier this month. We did not find the owners particularly friendly or helpful and, on arrival, the tea and milk sachets in the room had not been replenished, so we had to go and find the owners to ask for a top up. There is nowhere to eat in the evening at Sutton Bank. Further along the route at another location the owner of the b and b thought it perfectly normal to drive us to another village to a pub for our dinner. These people, however, said to us, "We are not a taxi service". So we had a late lunch at the Visitor Centre at Sutton Bank and ate sandwiches in our room in the evening. Otherwise the room was fine, although the tv was really small. The best thing was the good and spacious shower.

For anyone walking or touring around the Sutton Bank area this is a lovely place to stay. Rooms are warm and comfortable, breakfast is superb and the scenery is great with wonderful vistas a short stroll away.

This was the only option on offer and we had a comfortable night in fairly basic and rather drab accommodation (with a good shower!). Unlike with other B&Bs for those of us walking the Cleveland Way where there is nowhere within walking distance to go and eat, we were not offered a lift to a pub or restaurant, so we had to eat sandwiches (bought at the Sutton Bank National Park Centre just before closing) in our room. Breakfast was well cooked and tasty, though there was less choice (eg fresh fruits, yogurt, etc) than we usually find.

We have had an amazing stay here and are checking out tomorrow!
Beautiful cottage appartement with a Lovely courtyard and seating, super dog friendly (even provided dog bowls/ bed and towels). Upon arrival we found a clean cozy setting, with some lovely freshly baked buns, biscuits, jams, coffee, tea and sugar.
We had two well rested nights in a very comfy bed,
There is a great information booklet left by the owners on the area, local restaurants, takeaways, museums, shops etc.
I would recommend bringing your own food, as the only caffe within walking distance is the Sutton park cafe (great food about 5 Minuit walk), however if driving there are some Lovey pubs not far by car.
We would both like to say Thank-you for accommodating us in your beautiful cottage.

We have just returned from a week at the Byre and what a beautiful stay we had. First of all, Liz is an exceptional host. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she was always on hand with a smile. It was lovely to be able to walk around the farm and see the beautiful surroundings - the horses were a treat and so friendly! The courtyard is stunning and perfect for our two dogs who enjoyed frolicking around in the outdoor space. The cottage itself is a beautiful space - lovely and modern in its decor and the bed was one of the most comfortable we have every stayed on! The cottage is perfectly equipped for your needs - we cooked a lot whilst we were there and wanted for nothing. The fresh cakes and milk on arrival were very much appreciated after a long drive. We are planning to return with our parents next time! Thanks again Liz - I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Garbutt Farm and will be doing so to all of our friends.
