Our short stay of 5 nights at this location was wonderful. . Our son and grandson(6yrs old) joined us for 4 nights. The cabin was immaculately clean and was comfortably cosy for the four of us. A really nice amenity in the cabins is the wood burning stove. It was more than adequate in heating our cabin when we experienced a day and a half of rain at the end of September during our stay, along with day time highs of 5 degrees Celsius. Firewood is supplied and replenished every day to ensure we had firewood for our outdoor fire pit and indoor stove, if necessary. Being a family run operation, we didn’t experience any hiccups in customer service. All of our requests were dealt with in a very timely manner by smiling and appreciated staff. Communication with the staff is key to exceptional service. This is not a hotel, so, communicate with the staff and give them a reasonable time to respond to your request. Remember, you are in a remote location. If you are looking for a comfortable, we’ll equipped cabin, to escape the day to day stress and enjoy some relaxing and peaceful time hiking, fishing, relaxing by the campfire and roasting hotdogs and marshmallows, this is what you’re looking for. Hands down, this is your choice!! The location is very easy to find, and it’s close proximity to Nordegg is convenient. Would I recommend this location as a very relaxing and isolated location? Absolutely, do not hesitate to reserve your next trip. We have stayed in numerous rental locations throughout the world and we were extremely impressed with the commitment to superior customer service at this location. I commend you on a job very, very well done. We will be back. Thank you once again.…
We were very fortunate to visit Expanse Cottages in early March with my wife’s parents while Old Man Winter had his last hurrah. We enjoyed it so much, my inlaws booked all four cabins for the households of our entire family in mid-May where we were able to see Spring start coming into bloom. “Meticulous” is the word that describes the property. The cottages are very clean, with good layouts, well-equipped, mindful COVID-19 policies as well it offers the surrounding beauty of the outdoors with back trails where you can experience tranquility in your getaway from the every day. The property is also well-lit at night. Everything in the units is properly labeled and the notes/reminders scream out great attention to detail (or an OCD complexity, which I can certainly appreciate being cut from the same cloth!). I can envision some personalities may find the reminders a bit much, but to me it speaks highly to the pride of care and ownership evident. We stayed in Kutenai both times. Though a smaller unit without an oven (there was a stovetop), we liked how it was nice and central among the four units. We did have a chance to quickly peek in all four cabins during our two visits and noticed they each made reasonably good use of their space. We don’t like it too smoky inside, so we opted out on the wood-burning fireplace. However, we did indulge in the outside fire pit where there is also a picnic table, ample space and free daily ration of firewood. Kindling, newspaper, pre-cut wood was all ready to go and the batch of wood burned cleanly both times. A tank of fire water is ready for when you are done! There is also a large bucket out front for refills of any items you require. For those entertainment and social media buffs who want to stay plugged in, the property does have WiFi but being out in the woods, signal strength can vary, though we had a strong phone signal. No cinema size TV screen either; we had a few laughs pretending to be Michael Scott from the Office with his plasma. But in reality we felt these are all positives in disguise. Advice here – just disconnect. I brought my laptop both times and didn’t even turn it on the second time (which is a feat in itself). I was not directly involved in the booking process both trips. However, from feedback received it was streamlined and efficient with no direct face-to-face (awesome given the pandemic). The brother and sister owners play off each other’s strengths: one lives out of town and handles bookings whereas the other lives on site and manages the property. It seems like other family members come around to chip in and help BUT the team is also exceptionally brilliant at being non-intrusive. We couldn’t have thought of a better arrangement where all our family can come together during these difficult times. The team at Expanse Cottages goes above and beyond in their own special way to deliver value, from cleanliness of the units right down to the beautiful postcards they provide and the special little touches such as the treats for my father-in-law’s 65th. Again, I go back to my first impression - meticulous. There is no doubt in my mind I will get a response to my review like all the other reviews! To the team - best of luck with the expansion - we hope you continue keeping up the good work and bringing your "A" game as you grow. Please indicate if you found this review helpful as it will allow me to better focus my future review efforts!…
Absolutely amazing experience. Cleaner than hotels costing five times as much. A wonderful design, fantastic atmosphere and incredibly well stocked. The people at Expanse could teach a masterclass at hospitality. I am already planning a return. Whether you’re in the area for a weekend of hiking, exploration, or just to get off the computer and unplug Expanse cabins is a TOP choice. These cabins are a premium in this area - if you’re considering staying, be mindful that people love them and they book up fast.
Expanse cottages (Kutenai cottage) is a perfect location to explore and experience winter hiking and ice walk on Abraham Lake. The cottage was fully equipped for a self-contained stay. It was very clean and appealing and offered private outdoor space with a fire pit, picnic table, seating and firewood. There were marked walking/hiking trails on the property. Very COVID continues. Would definitely stay again
Booked Expanse Cottages with kids/friends for some sledding time. What a great place, sat around an outdoor fire pit, relaxed. Very quiet restful place. Jason the innkeeper helped with anything we needed which wasn’t much as each cottage was fully equipped and very clean. Will come back in the summer to check out quading trails, nice to come back to a hot shower! Thanks for everything!
