The Shakespeare Hotel is a magnificent grand old lady, and a must for any Outback Queensland road trip. The accommodation is as authentic as you can get, with rooms of every size and configuration, high ceilings, polished floors, and an enormous wrap around verandah. You can easily imagine this pub teaming with farmers, shearers, and weary travellers. Our hostess, Heather,...

A wide variety of lunch and dinner options, even though it's serious red meat country there are still some fish, pork and other menu options. Steaks are great though and well priced. Will do gluten free meals as well! The outback parmi is something for the very hungry to tackle :)

We chose to stay at the hotel based on a couple of previous reviews online and simply regretted it ! Service was clumsy and food was average. We ate half our meal and went looking for more food elsewhere. Awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of the animals running across the roof above me and my...

Great old fashioned family service and country hospitality. Great roast night Sunday - Pork was so generous and succulent and five vegetables. Don't waste your money anywhere else. Accomodation also available $40.00

What a beautiful old pub and awesome hosts Barry & Heather treat you like you are family, very clean comfortable beds, great hot showers, good value meals, so much so that we decided not to stay in Longreach and rode back to Barcaldine just to stay here an extra night, if your in town and looking for a great pub...

So what started off as being just dinner and a couple of beers ended up being a fair session at the Shakey. Out of the 4 pubs this was the only one with diners and it didn't take us long to see why. Firstly the meals are very good value and pretty good quality. Both of us were very happy...

We had 2 dinners here and both were lovely. The steak we had was cooked as ordered and was delicious. The roast we had was lamb and very enjoyable. Popped in for wedges for lunch they were yummy. Friendly owners and very polite staff. Highly recommended.

Had a lovely dinner there on our first night in town and were so taken by the friendly atmosphere and staff and the owners that we back up on night 2 for another great meal. Great view from the upstairs verandah of the the...

Love this hotel, especially the authenticness of an old pub. Such friendliness - felt like home for the short time we stayed. We're here in a cold snap, so good to rug up in the blankies and read for a bit at night. Great start to the day with breaky on the verandah in the sun. Thank you Barry, Heather...
