My wife and I have stayed at this hotel twice now due to its location on the river, just between Ohio and Kentucky. We live only 30 minutes north of Cincinnati, Ohio, so it's a nice weekend getaway spot for us. We love hotels with balconies offering scenic views, and overlooking the river and city lights at night is wonderful. We first stayed here on our anniversary, and we decided to go back for my birthday. I found a deal online which included the hotel, breakfast (at the hotel restaurant - NOT a FREE continental breakfast), and tickets to an amusement (aquarium) the following day. While talking with the sales rep on the phone, I specifically told her that we were coming for the river view balcony rooms (meaning, it needs to face North because the hotel is just south of the river). The hotel is a very tall, cylinder structure. I believe every room has a balcony - but of course, they face all directions, depending on what side of the hotel your room is on. Upon entering our room, I immediately went to check out the view. We were facing South! If I leaned out over the balcony, I could catch a glimpse of the river, but certainly not relaxing. I called the front desk, who promptly apologized, and then informed me that River View rooms cost more and they could not move me. I told them that we chose their hotel specifically for its location on the river and the view - and that I even told the booking rep that over the phone. They again apologized, but could not move us. I was very disappointed, and asked what else they could do for us. The rep told me they could offer us free breakfast at the restaurant in the morning. I informed him that the package I purchased already included that. He then agreed to knock off about $40 from our price for the inconvenience. Satisfied, I left it at that. We ate breakfast in the morning (which was FANTASTIC), and gathered our things to check out. I stopped by the front desk, expecting them to know the situation and honor the agreements made. They attempted to charge me full price for everything. I was a little frustrated because I had to explain my situation over and over again, but I told them what had happened - and that the rep last night had agreed to discount our charges. They responded, "He has no authority to do that, and so he wouldn't have said that" - as if I was lying! I became very direct with them, and let them know that their issue is then with the booking rep and the front desk guy - but not with me, their customer! Eventually, they gave me the agreed discount - but made me feel like I was the one causing all the issues. I was very irritated that I was made to feel like any of it was my fault - and that they were doing me a big favor. Ultimately, great view (if you have the right room - facing north), great location (close to many attractions and restaurants), poor service (bad communication, bad follow through, bad customer service). PS - They offer the Sleep Number beds, which are a lot of fun to play with - but are difficult to find your "number" if you've never slept on one before. It kind of keeps you up all night adjusting the firmness of your mattress (because you can!).…
